I happen to be a full-time power wheelchair user and have a service dog. That shouldn't matter, but it does. It was a beautiful day and U-haul was closed, meaning no cars or traffic so I decided to go over to look at the storage rooms (using my wheelchair). I did have my service dog off-leash and let him wander a bit as he wasn't working. He was always within 20 feet of me, as he is trained. I barely got into the parking lot and some guy is yelling at me to "get my dog out of here." I said he was a trained service animal and is in my control. He then said I can't be there because it's private property and you have to have "U-haul business." Silly me, seems like evaluating their storage units to see if they would work for me is "business." Nope, said I was trespassing and he was going to call the police if I didn't leave. Mind you, it's 4 in the afternoon, full sun, and I'm in a wheelchair with my service dog. In other words I'm not real threatening. I turned around and left. U-haul, your security guy is a jerk. I felt that he perceived the "wheelchair guy" couldn't have legit business. I did. I have a business and lease storage and warehouse space in many locations all over the US. Your business came off as unwelcoming, potentially discriminatory, and unnecessarily threatening.
