I am new to Montclair and wanted to get a fresh shave and brow clean up for my first day back in the office. I hadn't been to a barber in quite a long time, so was a little nervous about what to expect. Angie works at a new location, so I have a new barbershop. I had no problem with her previous shop; in fact, my sons still go there. This new place, however, is definitely a step up in terms of comfort and aesthetics. There are couches and televisions; it's nicely decorated, and the barber chairs are very comfortable. As for me, I would go to Angie for my haircuts if she operated out of the back of a van at the Brookdale Service Area on the GSP. Nobody else has ever provided me with such consistently excellent styling, and she's very nice. My wife is also a fan. So it's a nice bonus that her new digs are so agreeable (and unlike her previous spot, they take plastic). read more

They do not really pay attention to you if you are a new customer. A guy came in who was obviously a client for a while and knew everyone but the person that was cutting my hair just starting talking to him which I didn't care with but he got so distracted that he completely messed up my hair and cut it way to short. read more

Activate Rant: I scheduled a Saturday-morning appointment with Frank for my two-year old son. The appointment was made at least three days in advance. On the day of the appointment, Frank refused to cut my son's hair. Frank stated that my two-year old son might not sit still while he cut his hair simply because he was the age of two. He claimed that it might take longer than usual to finish his hair cut. He further indicated that he had other scheduled appointments for that day, and did not want to risk interfering other people's appointments in-the-event my son did not sit still while during his hair cut. This is what Frank said to me out loud (to my face) in front of his colleagues and customers - less than one minute of walking through the front door. Very rude, very unprofessional. I wanted to smacked hell out of the guy. I was about to smack the hell out of the guy. I should have smacked the hell out of the guy. But I reconsidered. My life experiences taught me that Frank's comments were likely racially motivated (the tone, the style, the manner in which), certainty discriminatory nevertheless. And it's probable that Frank would NOT have made that assumption had I (and my son) look like one of the light-skin Hispanic barbers working at the shop. I say this because, after Frank finished spewing his foolish assumption/statement(s), none of the other barbers in the shop (including a female) look at me to say, "Hey, i'll cut the kid's head" or anything to lessen the impact of Frank's stupid ass assumption/statements. So, I won't go back.ever! And neither should you, especially if you're a person of color with young children. Because I get the feeling that they just don't like the melanin. V. They did a great job fading the sides and took the time to use a straight razor on my neck and around my ears. When I said the top was longer than what I thought we had agreed to though, the barber got annoyed, checked his watch and said I should have told him at the beginning. He hacked at my head as quickly as possible with some scissors, going way too short and making the top of my head look like a poof ball. I was shocked speechless. Even if I was to speak up, the damage was already done. What could he have done, grow my hair back and start again? Leave this place to the Pauly Ds and Situations and go to Comb instead. read more

This place will exceed your expectations from the moment you walk in. I was looking for a 'mom and pop' shop, where barbers were passionate about their craft. This is the place. While you wait for your cut, you can take in a game and drink a beer, wine, coffee, etc. (Tip: Saturday's they had college football games on every tv). Frank, one of the founders of the shop cut my hair. His co-founder was in the chair next to him. The banter about the football games made it feel like a real community shop. All of that however, would mean absolutely nothing if the cut wasn't good. This cut was GREAT. I have been searching for a solid fade for quite some time. My hair grows in weird directions, is crazy thick, and I have somewhat of a goofy shaped head. Frank navigated these issues, which have lead to terrible cuts for years, with ease. I loved my cut and more importantly, my wife really loved it. Services received: Hair cut, beard shave, eyebrow trim. Came with hot towel, straight razor neck line. When Frank told me my total for all of this was $45, I assumed I was getting a first timer discount. I have been to shops where this service would be $75 at least! read more

I booked an appointment for my 8 year old son with frank, Frank did a great job on his hair cut. You can tell he does what he does with ease and confidence and as a mom that makes you feel really good when it come to your kids head!
