I almost didn't want to write this review for very selfish reasons...but on the other hand, it would be so nice to find a hidden gem in a small foreign touristy town.
We had some problem finding this place. Apparently, yelp isn't too popular in Czech yet, so not that many reviews are out. We were looking for food at really odd cold winter "afternoon-night" time on a weekday, the whole town was dark and quite deserted that we felt like we were walking around after midnight. Anyways, a collected effort of yelp + google landed us here and we were told that every table is reserved for the evening, but we're free to sit down if we can manage to finish before the people showing up (which is in 2hrs, side note: i love European hospitality...they'd let you stay for however long you want).
The servers speak pretty decent English and they did have English menu as well. The menu is rather czech cuisine, so some basic knowledge of German/Eastern European cuisine knowledge would be very helpful to ensure realistic expectations, and this is not a place for tourists to find their homeland comfort food. Even the drink menu features a lot of the local goodies, like honey wine and herb schnapps.
We ordered beer and a spiced/mulled winter tea to start, grilled fish, potatoes, and lamb shank for the main dish, and herb schnapps to help with digestion (it was A LOT of food). They were all really delicious, especially my lamb dish: it's not ginormous, but still very filling, soft and moist and full of flavors. And the potatoes...I could probably eat a whole sitting of their potatoes...they're just perfect!
The funniest thing is....when we paid, I found out that my tea was more expensive than the herb schnapps, which was in turn more expensive than the beer. Another validation that beer is cheaper than water here in Europe... XD read more
