Luckily our awesome hotel concierge was able to book a last minute reservation for us at Massana. We had no expectations walking in, except knowing the fact that it has one Michelin. It BLEW our mind. Every single dish was perfectly executed, with the perfect balance of flavors and texture. My favorites were eel, duck, and lamb. Eel was perfectly cooked and on top of a layer of pork belly - it literally melted in your mouth. So was the duck breast - thinly sliced, complimented by some pickled shallots, it was simply perfection. And just when I thought the night couldn't get any better, the waiter brought out lamb shoulders. It's the part of animal that works hard, so full of flavors but usually not easiest to cook. Here, it was once again cooked to perfection - unbelievably tender and exploded in your mouth with flavors. The meal ended with two amazing desserts, one tart and one sweet. Perfect ending to an amazing dinner. Service was also impeccable, with great local wine recommendations to compliment our meal throughout. Coming from New York, I think Massana could easily compare to any three Michelin star restaurants we've been to in the city, if not better. And with only one third of the price.
