Vic & his crew have become the go to expert in our Mar Vista/ Santa Monica neighborhood. Honest & efficient

I most unfortunately hit a deer while driving at night on Malibu Canyon. Victor immediately got my car fixed for a very reasonable price. I have also previously used him for routine service and I find it reasonable and good quality. I highly recommend. read more

Let me start off by saying I never trust mechanics especially ones I've never been to!...it was my first time stopping by today and I'll be a forever customer from now on! I had a nail in my tire and Vic got it fixed immediately! I didn't even have to wait, mind you, he was busy! A1 customer service and you can actually trust these hard working, honest people! This place is affordable compared to other mechanics I've been to. And there's nothing more valuable than being able to trust someone who's working on your car! 10000/10 definitely recommend for all your car issues!!!! Thanks again Vic you're amazing! read more

I gave Vic a bad review yesterday and I should correct it. The prices he charged for the parts were not as bad as I thought- basically twice retail prices for genuine Toyoa parts I should have questioned him when I got the bill, better yet he could have let me know what the charges were going to be. The work was all done fine. read more

I originally went to Vic about a year ago when my car was having a misfire issue. He diagnosed the problem within 30 minutes, called me gave me a great price and let me know I needed new motor mounts (which I already knew). He had my car back and running by the next day. When my clutch went out, I called him up, dropped it by on a Saturday morning at 8am. read more

Using V & S had been a godsend! Victor does great work and it's been 50% LESS than quotes from the dealer! I wish I found him years ago, but now I have I will go Nowhere else! read more

Vic is the most trustworthy guy. I have been to a lot of mechanics in Los Angeles and been ripped off. I was recommended him through a friend. He is genuine and always tries to squeeze you in. He also will tell you if you need something fixed and if it's imperative, or it can wait a few months. Thanks Vic! read more

I used to live on the Westside, we moved to the Valley...we always took our cars to Vic, honest as the day is long...Next time I went back he had moved and no one knew where. If you need an honest mechanic, he is it!!! Does anyone out there know where he moved to? Thank you, Tom read more

I've known Vic now for 10 years. I came in randomly when my car started making funny noises . It turns out he is also the mechanic for my friends who also live in Santa Monica. What a small world and fortunate coincidence that I ended up finding this place . Not only did he give me a phenomenal deal for fixing my car but also gave me great life advice about running a business. I was ready to quit and he encouraged me to keep going with my company. I'm always grateful not only for his advice and also the amazing work they do with my car. They are top notch in quality and service . I highly recommend this business to everyone and stop by to say hi to Vic while you are there! read more

Really pleased with the service and care provided by Vic and V & S in the few times I've taken my older model Prius there. I'm in the neighborhood and I'm finding that Vic services a lot of my friends and neighbors, too, which gives me peace of mind. read more

I took my car here for a brake problem. They told me to take a look at it, it would cost $79. Not to fix it just to look at it. He quoted me on a bearing $400 each which i was able to find online for less than $100 for a pair. Tried to explain to him I have a family mechanic we usually go to that always takes cares care of us, but they were really busy that day and couldn't take me. Thankfully i took it to Pacific Tire in Santa Monica and they were able to check and fix the problem without even charging me! Just goes to to show you need to stick with the people you can trust in the end. read more

Vic is always amiable and honest. His staff is as well. I've been a customer for years!

My 83 year old father has been coming here to get oil changes for at least the last 5-7 years, probably much much longer. The mechanics here are knowledgeable and have always done a good job anytime my dad needed something. Today, my dad's car needed it's scheduled oil change, but was also making an odd noise, so we went there together and I asked him if he could check it out, which he did. He explained that we needed a replacement alternator, which he quoted at almost $400. I called around to see if this was a reasonable price, and got a quote for the same service for $300 the same day. My dad barely gets by with his $1000 SSI checks every month, so the $100 saved is a HUGE amount for him. I thanked him for the oil change and told him I was going elsewhere for the alternator, and the owner/manager (not sure who he was, but he was in charge at the time) threw a mini tantrum in front of me. He started complaining about how he was the one to diagnose the car, and now we are going elsewhere to get the service. I understood his frustration of losing out on a sale, and I explained to him how we live in a capitalistic society, so if I can get a better price for the same service, I'm going to do it...who wouldn't? He then proceeded to tell me that if my father ever came in again, that he would ONLY do an oil change for him going forward and will not tell him if anything else is wrong or broken with his car. MY FATHER IS 83 YEARS OLD, AND THIS GUY WILL NO LONGER TELL HIM IF HIS CAR IS FINE TO DRIVE WHEN HE COMES IN TO GET IT SERVICED. What terrible customer service, the owner/manager should be ashamed of himself. Almost all oil change locations anywhere will do a complimentary check of the vehicle and let you know if they see anything wrong, with no expectations that the customer will agree to get the service at their spot, because they care about their customers and want them to be safe in their cars...but not this guy - he won't do that for an elderly man who has been a customer for almost 10 years. Pathetic. He just lost my dad as a customer forever - I have told my dad to NEVER go to this guy again, because this guy doesn't have my dad's best interests in mind, and I only ever want the best for my dad. I would have given them a "1-star" due to this experience I had today, but they actually do a very good job servicing vehicles as long as you're willing to pay a little extra for the service and never go anywhere else. read more

I don't know what happened to this listing or my previous review, but this gem of a business HAS to be on Yelp. If you need a good, fast and--gasp! honest mechanic, V&S is the place to call. After having been ripped off for years at various places across the Westside, I wanted to try the guys at Barrington Motors who have amazing recommendations here on Yelp. They don't service American cars and sent me to Vic at V&S. Vic is amazing, always smiling and a pleasure to deal with. He's competent, his prices are consistently below other mechanic's estimates and has never, ever pushed me for work I didn't need. On the contrary, he's saved me more than a few buck on more than one occasion. The crew at his shop is also very nice, they work well and their turnaround time is just incredible. I was there today for a nail in my tire, and not only Vic "waved me through" immediately but he didn't charge me; and I had to insist to at least let me tip the guy who actually did the work. I mean, they know I will be back (as a matter of fact tomorrow, with a car that I'm thinking of buying and that I want Vic to check out for me), but this is serious customer service. Also, the high quality of service is consistent, and all the friends I have referred to V&S are now loyal customers as well. I think I'm set for life and I will never, ever stray. read more

Extremely helpful and friendly service. Took my car here the other day because my check engine light turned on. Figured I'd stop by since the location is conveniently accessible. Since I drive past this place going to and from work I thought "one day I'll probably take my car here." and I did! Only to find out that the problem with my car was due to the gas cap being half-screwed on! I didn't feel as dumb as I thought I would because the staff was so helpful, and again, friendly. I only felt silly... and half-dumb. I will definitely visit this location again (for an actual car repair concern!) read more

Whenever the problem happened, I alway went there. They are nice and friendly. and when I did the oil changed, he told me I need to take care of my car. They replaced my axle and transmission and whatever and it cost over $1300. I really have no idea about the car, so all I could do is believing what they told me. Since it was not expensive, I thought my car will be ok for at lease over a year as long as I do oil change constantly. But yesterday my car couldn't move because of the alternator. I wonder if they really checked everything was ok. This shouldn't have happened if my car was ok... My car stopped in the middle of the street. That was scary. I feel like because I'm a girl by herself, they try to take money....or this normally happens? I don't know. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 Stars. Vic is professional, kind and honest mechanic. He will quote you exactly what you need. He always fits me in, and tells me when I don't need any work done. I found him 1 year ago, and I'll be a lifelong customer. read more

Have to write this place a review immediately because I was so impressed. I hit a curb and got a flat tire right by this place and pulled in. They didn't have my tire in stock so sent someone out to get it, put it on, and had me back on the road in less than an hour for less than $200 (including the tire)! They were also so nice and let my dog sit in the office with me while I waited. This place is amazing - thank you!!! read more

Vic quoted me a price to perform an oil change and lube on my 1965 Ford. I had visited a handful of shops including Jiffy Lube and no one had the capability of performing a lube job on my car. I told Vic specifically that I needed a lube greasing on my chassis and he said okay. After a few weeks the car began to squeak as it previously had. I returned to him to explain this and he told me that it was my springs or shocks making that noise and in a shooing manner left it at that. As I exited the office, I looked into the garage and asked the mechanic why my car squeaks; who explained they use WD-40 to lubricate suspension. Although they did a good job on the oil change, Vic basically lubed my wallet for the additional charge of the greasing of my chassis without the use of a lube gun. Not cool and I'l not go back there after his bullshit excuse! Oh, I went to another shop that had a lube gun and they performed a chassis lube. Not a squeak to be heard!! read more

I wish negative stars was an option. Even one star is too good. I drove here on a flat tire at about 5:40pm and as I pulled into the parking lot with my hazard lights on, the mechanic who wouldn't give me his name was shutting the garage door. I parked the car and asked if he could help me with the tire. He said "No." Just like that. No. I asked, please, nothing else is open and it'll take less than 10 minutes. He said "sorry, baby (!!) exactly, we're closed." I won't lie... I was mad and said, "I hope your mother sister daughter never ask for help from somebody like you." He proceeded to say that I thought I deserved things because of the car I was in. Really?! That's how you treat people. Fine you're closed. Fine you won't help humankind out. But "baby" and then discriminating against me because of my car?! It was the most horrific and blatant form of gender discrimination and prejudicial treatment I've ever received in my life. I wouldn't even recommend them if they were the last dirt bags on earth. I'd rather walk 100 miles than give them even a single cent. Disgusting human beings. There are AMAZING mechanics out there who will treat you well and be honest, and not discriminate based on gender or car type!! This crappy shithole is not one of them. read more

Vic was my mechanic for about 8 years... I started taking my Honda to V&S when it had about 80,000 miles. Vic replaced the timing belt, radiator, and did the 90,000 mile service when it was due. Everything was great. I continued to come get oil changes, tune-ups, and tires over the next 50,000 miles...and that's really all this place is good for. One morning my car (now with about 130,000 miles; not that many for a Honda) made a horrible sputtering noise when turning over and the check engine light came on. Basically to make a very long story short...Vic didn't know what was wrong with my car, but kept saying that he could fix it. Over the next couple months he tried a fuel injection flush and some other things, but the horrible sputtering and chugging always came back along with the check engine light. I even ended up stranded in Hollywood one night with an overheating engine. NOT okay. And each time I took it back he always said that he had fixed it. Not to mention the money I spent on each of these services. The final tipping point for me was the night I ended up stranded with an overheating engine in Alhambra twenty miles from home just after Vic had given the all clear. So, (livid) I popped open the hood and just stared (as if I could do anything about it) at which point a kid walked by took one look and said, "it's probably your head gasket." Oh, really. I got right on to mobile Yelp and looked for a new mechanic where I found Mr. Shew at S&S Honda (who is an absolute GODSEND!! Thank you Yelp!!) I "drove" my poor overheating car directly there. The next morning Mr. Shew popped open the hood, ran a diagnostic and immediately said, "it's the head gasket". Oh, really! I had been driving around for months with a blown head gasket! Extremely dangerous... unbelievable! But wait, there's MORE! Mr. Shew jacked up my car to show me there were big cracks in both trailing arms. He said in a few months they would crack all the way through and the wheels would basically come off my car while I was driving! What? How did V&S miss this?!! Unbelievable. In the end I am lucky to have gone through all this because I ended up finding a mechanic who saved my life as well as my car's life. Thanks again to Yelp. Please, if you value your car and if you value your safety...please look somewhere else to get your car serviced. read more

V & S has been my go-to place for about three years; oil changes, new tires and all maintenance (ever since I literally blew a tire across the street at the gas station). I had been meaning to get new tires, had done my research on the cost and knew what I wanted. Since my situation was what it was, Vic easily could have overcharged me, but chose to charge me exactly what I had been quoted. He was accomodating and fixed my tires right away. He really went above and beyond. In general, I love supporting my neighborhood businesses, so I feel really lucky to have a car service shop literally walking distance from my house. They really go above and beyond for me and it's made me a loyal customer. Bummer on the negative message below from Erik C., but it seems as though there may have been some confusion on payment. My assumption is that payment is always due upon completion of work? Hopefully people will read the other yelp reviews before they make their decision. read more

Vic at V&S is great! I've lived on the Westside for most of my life, and for the past 10 years I've brought my cars to V&S. I don't know a ton about cars and am not super interested - I just want my car to be safe and reliable as I drive it in the ground over as many years as possible. Vic has consistently been honest and comprehensive in discussing what my car needs and what I can get away without doing. I've usually been in and out quickly, even when it's been a big repair, and I've found his pricing to be reasonable and free of upselling/crazy mark ups. Vic is also just nice and chill dude; the last time I was there, it was because a tree branch had gotten lodged in my axle (!!) after a wind storm. I could drive my car, but I couldn't dislodge the branch. I pulled in to V&S and Vic popped outside and got it out in like 5 minutes and sent me on my way. The humane/neighborly approach he takes to dealing with customers is a huge plus for me. read more
