My hair style is kinda on the longer side. Think Richard Branson hair style vibe. It's hard to find a barber shop that can do layers for longer hair correctly. I showed Michael a picture of how I wanted it to look from Pinterest, then Michael got to work and did a great job! read more

Went there five times. Russian native immigrants. The cuts were good but there were other issues. My instructions are simple - keep it long as possible on top and at the crown. Fade the back closer to my neck. And most important: cut the sides down to 1/2 inch long from my part on down. I showed him where I part it. I always said "do not cut the crown or the back too short because I'm thinning." Every date the exact same instructions, on purpose. Michael did not even try to talk to me during any haircut, and they take time (shampoo, scissor cut, trim neck & brows). I would speak when I felt he was thinning too high in back, "just a reminder." His static reply "Don't worry, I know." EVERY TIME. In the end he held a small mirror to show me the back. He had cut it WAY too short and my scalp was showing 3 inches from crown down. I said "I think you cut it a little too short there", No apology, he just took the mirror and flipped it over to the non-reflective side and grinned. Problem solved? No, but too late anyway. I still tipped 20%. Good barbers need breaking in. So last Tuesday I called for my 5th appointment there, none available. They only book same day appointments so she said to call back next day. I called next day and I said "I have to be someplace as close to 5:00 as possible." But I ended up taking a 5:00 appointment. I arrive about 4:20 just in case I get lucky. One kid is a walk-in so they say he has to go. BUT they GAVE him an APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT DAY. There's three of us still waiting and 3 barbers and none of them look close to finished. I was surprised she did not remember me from previous visits, or that I had called by name two times just to get any slot. Plus I tipped 20% every time. Anyway, I wait and 5:00 rolls around. I'm estimating I would be lucky to get started at 5:30 which meant a 6:30 finish for me. At 5:15 I got up and said "I'm going to have to go, it's too late for me. Sorry." They were stoic. So I asked, "Do you think I can get an appointment for tomorrow?" I knew they generally only take same day bookings, so the full day must have been open and they gave a WALK-IN a next day appt. Michael says, "No, it's a problem now because now you said you are leaving, that's not good." I was apoplectic. So I just looked at him said "well, I guess I need to find a new Barber," and walked out. Good haircuts. Disastrous customer service. read more

Great place and cut !! Husband and Wife. Couple that give great cuts Very friendly and very clean establishment read more

It would be easy to not share this place it only to keep it as San Diego's best kept secret, but it's owed. This place offers men's cuts that are salon quality at barbershop prices, making it without a doubt the best value cuts I've found since moving here 8 years ago. Here is yet another 5 stars read more

My son and I have been coming here for the last 5 years. Great price for a quality cut.

Best cut ever, every time. Friendly, professional, prompt, full service. I keep returning time and again.

I've been coming to V & M Barbershop for years, and they never disappoint. Vickie and Michael do a fantastic, consistent job every single time. The attention to detail, professionalism, and overall vibe of the shop keep me coming back. It's hard to find a barbershop you can truly trust, but this is definitely one of them. Highly recommend to anyone looking for quality cuts and reliable service. read more

Came here for my first time. I got my haircut by the owner. He was friendly. They have been in business for 7 years. I told him I wanted a clean up trim all around. He was prompt and efficient. It is a clean shop. Making an appointment was simple enough. 48$ haircut after tip. read more

Place will dupe you for your money. They give you no choice but to wash your hair even if you request the regular cut, so they can get more money out of you. THEN, they upcharge the most expensive package they have by another $5 for no reason. Service is also extremely rude. Would never recommend. You can see for yourself when you come here. read more

I've known Michael since he was working at Solana Beach barbers. He's always consistent with his cuts.

Got the male barber and received the best cut of my life, massive shoutout to this place. Rating is 9.9/10

V&M Barbershop - Barbers Near Me - Encinitas, California

My husband has been getting cuts from Vickie since before she opened this shop and she is the best of the best! He won't go anywhere else and we won't take our boys anywhere else either. To start, our son, who was 2 at the time, was deathly afraid of haircuts. Would scream and cry in terror to have his head even touched. We had been thrown out of a number of kid's hair salons (and he doesn't have the kind of hair you can just let grow). Miss Vickie is the only soul he will let touch his hair, she uses "just the scissors!!" and is gentle, patient, does a meticulous job, even on a toddler. He is 4 now and loves getting cuts from Miss Vickie. My husband's hair is always impeccably trimmed. And, two years ago when he had emergency brain surgery, Vickie was the only one we trusted to give him a cut to minimize the shave marks so he could graduate from his medical residency two weeks later. She took such care and love it made me cry. She took a traumatic moment in our lives and brought back some normalcy. read more

Cool couple, always nice and do a great job. They both have a sense of humor; trademark of a good barbershop?!? Nice family

The hair stylist that I used for 15 years moved out of state during Covid and I've been looking for a new place for the past 4 years. Well, I've found the perfect spot with V&M barbershop. All of the stylists are fantastic. They take a lot of pride in their craft and it really shows. If you are a guy and need a reliable place to get a really great haircut, check out V&M. You won't be disappointed... read more

Eno is great. Nice shampoo scalp massage too. Easy to get appointments. Reasonable price. Senior discount too.

Great friendly service and a wonderful haircut too. I especially enjoyed the straight razor neck shave.

I was looking for a legit barber after getting my hair cut @ Supercuts for the longest time. I tried out a few different spots before finding V&M's and was overwhelmingly pleased with the first haircut I received from them. Despite the unclear instructions I gave Michael on how I wanted it cut, he still managed to do an extraordinary job. I've returned a few times since then and have been continuously impressed with the results. They're very patient, welcoming & professional. If you're on the fence, I definitely recommend giving them a shot. I was slightly skeptical at first, but, after seeing the final product, any lingering doubts I may've had were quickly assuaged. read more

Michael always does a great job! Honestly I have not had a bad experience with any stylist here. Support your local family owned business and get a great cut here! read more

Be aware the prices advertised for services in the shop are not necessarily what Michael will charge you.

A true barber! The shop is always immaculate. Victoria and Michael are great at cutting hair, friendly and funny. The hair wash comes with a massage which is fantastic. And the straight edge to clean up the side burns and back of neck is the best. One tip: they don't do appointments, but you can call day-of and lock down a time. Best to call at 8am and reserve your spot for the day. read more

So, I tried to go to supercuts but they were booked for the day... at which point I went to a different supercuts but they were ALSO booked for the day. So I went to Greatclips but they were booked... then I tried Sportsclips and also booked for the day. Finally I showed up here expecting to be turned away as a walk in -- but they took me almost immediately I had never heard of the place and was a little skeptical about it at first glance but I really needed a haircut so I rolled the dice. Sat down in Michael's chair and he just started cutting away... Usually barbers use the electric trimmers but Michael was all scissors -- he was going to town... literally snipping faster than a Chihuahua on a sugar high. He had a massive gold ring on his finger that glimmered like hummingbirds wings. Half of me felt like I was in a high class European Salon while the other half was at the Indy 500. What the ***** was my hair going to look like??? I gripped the edges of the barber chair in nervous anticipation..... OH BOY Ill cut the fat... Michael gave me THE BEST haircut I've ever had. Thanks Michael I usually don't write Yelp reviews unless I'm severely irritated... but I keep catching my reflection in the mirror and this cut only gets better as time passes-- I look SO good. Damn good. I didn't realize I could look this good. Also... only $25????? You're kidding. I'll be back. read more

I've been going to Michael for last 7 years and it's always a pleasant experience. Him and his wife run a very friendly and low key men's barbershop, and you can't beat the quality for the price! Oh yeah, my wife likes the cut too...that's important! read more

Been going to V&M Barbershop for the past year and couldn't be happier and my wife approves! They prefer scheduled appointments.

I've been going to Michael at V&M for the last couple years and I can't say enough positive things about the place. He and V are friendly and accommodating along with giving the best haircuts in the area. It's the only place I'll go! Easy 5 star review! read more

Mr. Hubby came home with his first real haircut in over a year happy as can be. =)

We walked into the barbershop for my son to get his hair trimmed out of his eyes, the sides and back of hair. Just scissors, no buzz. The owner (as I was told) told us that this not a hair cut and he won't do the service! Cutting hair with scissors is not a haircut?? What?? I asked him how much to cut the hair and he said $40 even though the sign said $28 for kid's cut. I actually would have paid the $40, but he would NOT perform the service! I have NEVER been so confused of treated that way in my life! read more

Just exceptional service. Mike, the owner made me feel comfortable and at ease the minute I walked in to get a shave. Thank you for running out to fetch me my forgotten phone! Again, exceptional service! read more

If you want a "world class" Haircut Experience the V & M Barbershop is the place to go. I choose the word Haircut Experience because I opted for the Senior deluxe haircut that comes with a shampoo. scalp massage and vibrating chair. This was clearly a refreshing and exhilarating experience not just a haircut. The person who worked her magic, and made all of this happen was INO one of three tonsorial artists at the shop She took great care cutting my hair mostly with scissors instead of just running a razor wildly over all over my head. I'm now a dedicated member of the V & M Barbershop Fan Club. INO will be seeing a lot more of me in the future. A Hui Hou, Jim Frandsen read more

I tried this place four times. The first time was honestly good, and I think that's because Mike listened to what kind of haircut I was looking for. But for the following three times, I was not happy at all, and everytime I just wanted to give it another try. He acted like he didn't want me to talk about the kind of haircut I'd like to have! One time, when I was asking for shorter top, he said "you Indians always want to go shorter". First of all, why do you stereotype people! and second of all, I am not Indian. He just likes to cut the hair the way he likes, and does not care about what you want. read more
