Halloween is my favorite holiday. So, I thought to myself, it's been a long time since I checked…read moreout a haunted house. We're talking 12 years or so. So when I saw an ad about 13th Floor Haunted House on Facebook, I knew it was time to get back in the mix. I checked out this haunted house on a Sunday at 8:00 p.m. It was their last day on November 2nd. Parking was a cinch in the spacious parking lot they share with other businesses. Once you arrive, you'll see a line outside of the building which winds in the same way that you would see at an amusement park. This was my least favorite part of the experience. It took about 30 minutes to get through the line outside and the line inside of the building. And then the haunted house itself takes about half an hour. You can pay extra to skip the line, but I'm not about that life. I just wish they had a system in place logistically where you can get through the line quicker. I imagine that Friday and Saturday evenings are even more crowded than the Sunday evening I attended. I won't ruin all of the surprises about the haunted house itself, but I will say it's a good time. There are parts that are pitch dark. There are people jumping out at you left and right trying to scare you. There are parts of the rooms that are set up to scare you. There are different themes throughout the haunted house. It's well done. My favorite area made it seem like you were wading through water, when you in fact were not. It was an optical illusion created through light. My words can't really do it justice. If you're not super scared of haunted houses, give it a try. You'll have a good time once you get in there! And after you survive all of the ghouls and demons, there's a food truck posted up outside if you're hungry.

Would DEFINITELY go next year and recommend this haunted house! The fast passes are also worth it. Groups go in individually so they can experience it separate from other groups, so you might wait a bit to get in. (Totally worth the wait)

Since you can pay to go to just one or all of the attractions, this seems fair. I'll base this review solely on my experience with The Crypt. The Crypt has nice props and F/X throughout and that's really about it. No scare factors for us hardcore Halloween & horror fans, and no thrills. It was kind of just like, oh wee... Look at the cool display. That's it. If you an 8 year old kid, or just an easily frightened person, you'll love it. However, if you're on a budget (or time schedule) and can't afford to do all of the attractions, so you're wondering which of the 3 you should pick, choose this one; it is by far the best of the 3. Located in the Fiesta Mall parking lot (which is typically a dead giveaway for impending lameness), right off of US-60 and Alma School Rd. Plenty of free parking. Go to their website for a $3 off coupon. Even if you have a Groupon, you must stand in the ticket line to get a physical ticket.

Parking was also an extra cost, but I think if you bought your parking online it was a little bit cheaper. There was a Fear Farm merch tent and a few other tents selling food and drinks. Since we came on Wednesday, I'd say the lines weren't as bad as it may have been on the weekend. However, there were definitely a lot of missed opportunities for jump scares. While everyone in our group did get scared at least once, I thought it would be more scarier. Some of the themes were better than others. I don't think I would come back to this one. There are other haunted places to check out in the valley. I will say that the music they had playing throughout the park that evening was awesome. Not sure if it's always the same, but it was hits from the 90's!

There are 4 different themed haunted houses that are included in the general admission ticket and all the activities (corn maze, zombie shooting, etc.) are additional costs. Parking is also an additional cost which is always annoying. Overall, the haunted houses were fun but I think they could've been improved with more scare actors. The carnival themed one was my favorite but it was too short. The blood shed one was too long and barely had any decorations, it was basically just a maze. We were there for over 2 hours since there's a bit of a line to wait for each house so people are spread out.

A con is that the smaller kid activities is way on the other side from the bigger kid activities so if you have kids of different ages, you have one bored and just hanging until the other is done in their section. The food was decent for the most part. The funnel cake bites, turkey leg, and kettle corn were good. The elote corn was eh. The food was decently priced. To get in is $20 each which to me, is a little pricey. There should be kid pricing in my opinion. Parking is ok. They did let a car in front of us hold the line up to wait for a car to leave but when we tried to do it, they made us move. Understandable but rules should be the same for everyone. Most staff was nice. On the way out, they asked about taking a family photo. We declined. My son was on the props I guess (it wasn't labeled and no one was there taking pictures) and one staff was like "this is where we take our pictures just so you know." That was interesting. Maybe post a sign. Not my top pick, but it was a decent time.

So there we were, headed to Castles N' Coasters a wholesome amusement park in the desert... a place…read morefor families, laughter, and apparently, poor decision-making. Now my buddy this man reaches into his pocket and pulls out what I can only describe as a historical artifact. I'm talking a doobie so big it looked like Bob Marley himself rolled it during a greatest hits tour. I said, "Absolutely not. I am a grown man. I got responsibilities. I got a mortgage. I got snacks at home I haven't even finished yet." That didn't matter. Next thing I know, windows are up, car turns into a Dutch oven of bad decisions, and now I'm just along for the ride literally and spiritually. Somewhere between "this is a bad idea" and "why is everything funny," I lost control of the evening. We pull into the park around that magical time you know, that in-between hour... not quite day, not quite night... like God dimmed the lights and said, "Alright boys, let's see what happens." The whole place is glowing neon lights, arcade buzz, roller coasters rattling in the distance. Felt like walking into a carnival dream... or maybe a fever dream. Jury's still out. Now here's the thing about this place it's been around since the late '70s, sitting right there in Phoenix like a desert time capsule of fun. You got four roller coasters, including the Desert Storm, which sounds fun until you're on it reconsidering every life choice that led you there. Then there's the Patriot wooden, loud, and about as gentle as a bar fight. And somehow... SOMEHOW... we thought tequila beforehand was a good idea. So now we're buzzed, slightly baked against our will, and wandering this park like three philosophers who lost their notes. We're laughing at everything. Nothing's funny but everything's hilarious. A trash can? Comedy gold. A churro? Best thing I've ever eaten in my life. A child running past me? I'm emotionally invested in his journey. But I'll give credit where it's due the park itself? Clean. Staff's friendly. Nobody's judging three grown men giggling like idiots. It's got that old-school charm too arcades, mini golf, rides, the whole deal. You can bring a family here... or whatever version of a situation we were. Now the rides... oh, the rides. Let me tell you something nothing will make you rediscover fear like being slightly out of your mind on a roller coaster you thought you could handle. I got scared... not once... not twice... but a few times. The kind of scared where you start making promises to God you don't intend to keep. "I'll be a better man if I survive this drop..." Didn't mean a word of it. By the end of the night, we had the munchies, the laughs, and just enough dignity left to get back to the car without needing a group meeting. For a couple hours, though? We were kids again. No responsibilities. No stress. Just lights, noise, and pure, ridiculous fun. So yeah Castles N' Coasters might be a family amusement park... but under the right or completely wrong circumstances, it turns into one hell of a story. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Just... maybe crack a window on the way there.

Also, the Simpsons machine doesn't let you play Lisa. it picks Bart if you select Lisa's button. Another machine is Zoltar downstairs. He only talks, but does not spit out a souvenir ticket. That one actually did eat my dollar. I guess it made up for it because a couple people abandoned their games downstairs in the middle, so the bf and I played for "free". It was on someone else's dime, but I guess that counts, too. We got nachos and drinks from the snack bar. Service was quick. As with any family fun event center, food was a bit overpriced. The female bathroom was nasty. I don't know how often they clean them, but there was paper all over the stall floor. The faucets had a lot of buildup on them. Both the male and female restrooms smelled funky. I didn't play at the putt putt section, but one day I'll be back to do that. Overall, a good arcade/food experience. I'd recommend this place to people. I cannot comment on any of the rides/attractions besides the arcade.
