Campus is clean and prestine. Parking can be a beast but at least the bus stop is right our front and there is a parking ramp which we never rarely use because when you think about it it's waaaay out the way (but it's not) we're just spoiled. lol Everyone is helpful. The DVD selection is off the chain courtesy of a really smart avant garde-esque lovable library guy and his coworkers. Printing is free with student/faculty log-in and this includes color. WHHHAAAT! I went a private undergrad and printing was free then but I don't think it would be now. I love how all things are accessible and easy to navigate. IT in each room is what it should be: projectors/computers/tv's/dvd VISITORS: sign in at the main hall, front desk - get a parking permit to avoid the ticket. Oh and the safety patrol guys (and 1 girl) are professional and helpful. Will walk you wherever, help with a lock out, ticket, or explain somethings.

This is to review the University of Wisconsin - Madison. I chose to work at U.W. - Madison…read morebecause my undergrad and graduate degrees from U.C. Berkeley concerned vitamin research. As an undergrad, I did lab research on vitamin B6, and for my Ph.D., I did lab research on folic acid and vitamin B12. And so, it was a no-brainer that I should do my post-doctoral work at U.W. - Madison. U.W. - Madison is renowned for many of the early discoveries in the field of vitamin research, for example, for its introduction of the rat as the animal of choice for performing research on vitamins, amino acid metabolism, protein requirements, and so on. It was at U.W. - Madison, that the vitamins were first classified as being, "fat-soluble A" and "water-soluble B." At Madison, all of my work concerned vitamin K. Prof. H. DeLuca, and his laboratory staff at U.W. -- Madison are renowned for their work on vitamin D and vitamin A. SCIENTIFIC AND ARTISTIC ENVIRONMENT. U.W.--Madison is home to 20 Nobel Prize winners and 33 winners of the Pulitzer Prize. The Nobel Prize winners include, Joshua Lederberg (1958, Medicine), Har Gobind Khorana (1968, Medicine), Howard Temin (1975, Medicine), and John Van Vleck (1977, Physics), William C. Campbell, (2015 Medicine), Oliver Smithies (2007 Medicine). During my 4 years of residence and employment in Madison, the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art was my connection to the world of art and, in particular to the group of Chicago-based artists known as The Chicago Imagists. An exhibit of Richard Lostutter's paintings at this museum inspired me to drive to Chicago, and view paintings by the Chicago Imagists, including paintings by Ed Paschke, Roger Brown, and Sarah Canright. SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT. The social environment at U.W. -- Madison is provided by the many Mini-Courses that are taught at the two student unions (Union South and Memorial Union). Four of the people in my laboratory were members of a clogging group, The Kickapoo Cloggers, and they suggested that I learn. And so, I took courses in clogging, tap dancing, jazz exercise, and ballroom dancing, all of these being taught in Union South. When I arrived in Madison, I was a total nerd and had no skill in dancing. But after two years of training, I was good enough to perform, and I performed with my group in front of audiences numbering from about 100 to about 500, and these included performances at State Capitol building (see, attached photo of me performing, YOU NEED TO CLICK ON THIS PHOTO TO SEE ALL OF IT), and at bluegrass festivals in Edgerton, WI, Amherst, WI, Edgerton, WI, Ashland, WI, Mount Horeb, WI, Verona, WI, Kahoka, MO, Delevan, WI, and Rockford, IL. Football games are a big deal at Univ. Wisconsin -- Madison. Please see my photograph of the marching band carrying sousaphones. The marching band plays at every football game. CULTURAL AND AGRICULTURAL ENVIRONMENT. Wisconsin was settled by immigrants arriving from German and Norway. The Memorial Union has a Stiftskeller where the walls bear murals having a German theme (see, the photo of me in the Stiftskeller, and a close-up photo of one of the murals). Regarding Norwegians, Sytende Mai (independence day) is a holiday that is celebrated in some towns in Wisconsin, for example, by an annual parade in Stoughton, WI. The nearby town of Mount Horeb is a center for Norwegian culture. Madison, Roxbury, Milwaukee, and other towns are distinguished by their German restaurants. In addition, every year a few farms in the Madison area feature, DAY ON THE FARM, where any person can visit a farm and see displays relating to crop harvesting, veterinary science, or cheese-making.

I made an appointment as a new patient with Dr. Shigdha Volety's office and was scheduled for April. After 4 months, the Monday before my Friday appointment, Dr. Volety's nurse called to inform me that she does not prescribe narcotics or benzos and asked if I still wanted the appointment. I was surprised, and offended. My hope was for new, excellent medical care, not drug use. 'Of course', I said, and kept the appointment. I had prepared extensively on my part to begin with a new GP from my new home. On Wednesday her office called again and cancelled the appointment, without an explanation and said her next available appointment was for August. Clearly it seems, after reviewing my case, someone decided that they didn't want me as a patient.

I've tried twice since graduation to enroll again for an additional degree. Previously, I couldn't even get ahold of the front desk and left several messages for admission. This time, same course. Several voicemails for admissions, and no reply. I just spoke with someone at the desk and they said that I'm not eligible for the ONLINE program because I'm not in an eligible state. I'm a travel nurse, so I do not stay in one state. No one followed up on my application to tell me this or returned any of my calls. I'm very upset and disappointed. Waste of time.

Anyway, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is truly a world class university! With more fields of study than twenty people could manage in a lifetime, chances are, whatever you want to major in, they offer a degree for you. Getting good advice from an undergraduate adviser, you can complete one, two, or even three baccalaureate degrees with only a few more credits than you would need for just one degree. I got three degrees, and only had 7 more credits than I needed. There also are many buildings which are great works of architecture and building, and I believe that a young Frank Lloyd Wright worked on the physical building of Science Hall, on North Park Street, as a young man. The campus extends from Lake Street on the east, to West Johnson and Dayton Streets on the south, and on out west to Camp Randall, and beyond, with the University of Wisconsin Hospital & Clinics.

Visited the University of Wisconsin Law School today on the main campus in Madison, Wisconsin. The…read morefacilities are very nice...there used to be two separate buildings for the Law School but in the late 1990s the school built a four story connection between the two making it one huge building...it houses all the administrative offices, faculty offices, the Law Library and all the classrooms and courtrooms. The Law School facilities are nice and modern and they have tons of room. The Law School is located on Bascom Mall in the old part of the university grounds...but very close (walking distance) to the Memorial Library and the Union. One of the Law School buildings houses the majority of the classrooms - many of which are laid out like traditional rectangles, others in the pie-wedge shape...all seem to have up-to-date technology keeping students plugged in. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and on the newish side. The moot courtroom and other specialty rooms were also very nice...the Moot Courtroom especially so. It is obvious the Law School is reinvesting in its property. The other main law building contains most of the administrative offices, clinics, and faculty offices. There is a nice little coffee shop on the lower level of the connecting building but it was not open when we visited and is probably only operating when classes are in session. The law library takes up two to three floors...depending on how you count. A portion of the library is housed in the new 4-story connecting edifice which joins the two original buildings. The main reading room is on the top floor. The library stacks are on a couple of floors...but in both of the old buildings so you cross over and back often. And since the two buildings are not on the same level...you walk up or down a half flight of stairs each time...that is why it is hard to pin down how many floors. It can be confusing which library floor you are on at first, but it becomes obvious pretty quickly. Nicely laid out library, and a number of smaller reading rooms are included besides the newish main one. The main reading room is laid out with a series of large tables with lamps...there are a number of cushy chairs at the end of the room which has an entire wall of glass facing Bascom Mall...neat view. There are carrels spread around the other library floors, some locking and some not. It does not appear there are enough carrels for each student...hence the reading rooms. This yields a lot of seating spread out around the library. Wisconsin's Law School is well-ranked in the top-50 tier of schools and the faculty is well regarded. Being located in the capital city of Madison, the school has the benefit of experienced lawyers coming in as adjuncts and job/internship opportunities for students. We were out looking at law schools and stopped by for a visit...even though we showed up unannounced they had someone in the Admissions Office who provided us with a self-guided tour brochure...nice touch. It just showed a welcoming attitude, and a school that is not resting on its laurels. A good choice for a top-50 law school just 2 1/2 hours from Chicago.

Free! Tucked right inside the door of this building on campus is the Physics museum…read more It is a little museum. It was not what we expected when you read museum, however worth the stop. We found parking about a block away in a ramp. Inside the Chamberlin Hall just to the right is the entrance. The entire exhibit is hands on. Experiments are explained and are really cool. My husband and I spent over an hour here. He loves to understand how things work and enjoyed explaining some experiments to me. We played around for some time and pretty much had the place to ourselves. We recommend the stop.

This is a great little free museum on the University of Wisconsin campus just inside the entrance…read moreto Chamberlin Hall. We spotted it during a prospective student campus tour and circled back afterward. The museum consists of hands-on physics experiments and is well worth 30 minutes if you have school aged kids who are interested in science.
