They saved our behinds when we were woefully adrift on Lake Mendota. Prompt, skillful, and they made us laugh.

In January 2026 I decided to move my GP care from Rush-Chicago to UW Maddison. I'm a post cancer…read morepatient with multiple system involvement and wanted a GP closer to home. I made an appointment as a new patient with Dr. Shigdha Volety's office and was scheduled for April. After 4 months, the Monday before my Friday appointment, Dr. Volety's nurse called to inform me that she does not prescribe narcotics or benzos and asked if I still wanted the appointment. I was surprised, and offended. My hope was for new, excellent medical care, not drug use. 'Of course', I said, and kept the appointment. I had prepared extensively on my part to begin with a new GP from my new home. On Wednesday her office called again and cancelled the appointment, without an explanation and said her next available appointment was for August. Clearly it seems, after reviewing my case, someone decided that they didn't want me as a patient.

Go Bucky! Are you kidding me? Be True to Your School. It's got to get 5-Stars!…read more After trying two other schools (Sarah Palin still has me beat!) I met my mentor, bassist Richard Davis, and the rest is history. Yes, a true mentor/apprentice relationship based on daily contact. Not the "mentor" relationship some American Idol kids call listening to someone's CDs and mimicking them. My mentor woke daily at 4a.m. Sometimes he would call me at 6:30a.m., wake me up, and ask what I was doing. "Practicing" was always my sleepy answer and he never called B.S. He gave me the keys to his office as a Grad student and I never took advantage of it...save for the few times I spent hours listening to his extensive jazz LP collection. A Love Supreme never sounded so good! Political Correctness (PC) was de rigeur when I transfered there, and UW was the hotbed center of it all, for better and for worse. Chancellor Donna Shalala (later Clinton's Secretary of Health and Human Services) presided over my Undergraduate graduation ceremonies. A Top-notch research school, we didn't have to rely on our sports teams to be the sole attention of our University. But Barry Alvarez brought the Football Badgers to the Rose Bowl in 1994, '99, and 2000. Ron Dayne won the Heisman Award in '99. Cha! And when we owned a team's ass, like the UCLA Bruins, we were confident enough to not have to root against them, in games that didn't matter to us. Our Marching Band high steps. Yours does not. Our Marching Band kicks your marching band's ass. During Fifth Quarter, too. Does your school even know how to Polka??? Sections O-P. And although having a 35,000 student body doesn't hurt, Madison's reputation as a state Capitol and a great place to live just added to our quality of life while at UW. Lake Mendota and Lake Monona- beautiful places for water sports during the summer, and XX skiiing and ice fishing in the winter. Bike lanes- bikes rule in Madison. Cars do not. The UW Rathskellar and Terrace. The German style Rathskellar provided ample space for eating, studying, debating, wasting time, drinking beer, watching bands for free. And the Terrace, overlooking Lake Mendota, provided all of the same in a beautiful outdoor setting. Be True to Your School! Go Big Red!

Visited the University of Wisconsin Law School today on the main campus in Madison, Wisconsin. The…read morefacilities are very nice...there used to be two separate buildings for the Law School but in the late 1990s the school built a four story connection between the two making it one huge building...it houses all the administrative offices, faculty offices, the Law Library and all the classrooms and courtrooms. The Law School facilities are nice and modern and they have tons of room. The Law School is located on Bascom Mall in the old part of the university grounds...but very close (walking distance) to the Memorial Library and the Union. One of the Law School buildings houses the majority of the classrooms - many of which are laid out like traditional rectangles, others in the pie-wedge shape...all seem to have up-to-date technology keeping students plugged in. The lecture and seminar rooms were very nice and on the newish side. The moot courtroom and other specialty rooms were also very nice...the Moot Courtroom especially so. It is obvious the Law School is reinvesting in its property. The other main law building contains most of the administrative offices, clinics, and faculty offices. There is a nice little coffee shop on the lower level of the connecting building but it was not open when we visited and is probably only operating when classes are in session. The law library takes up two to three floors...depending on how you count. A portion of the library is housed in the new 4-story connecting edifice which joins the two original buildings. The main reading room is on the top floor. The library stacks are on a couple of floors...but in both of the old buildings so you cross over and back often. And since the two buildings are not on the same level...you walk up or down a half flight of stairs each time...that is why it is hard to pin down how many floors. It can be confusing which library floor you are on at first, but it becomes obvious pretty quickly. Nicely laid out library, and a number of smaller reading rooms are included besides the newish main one. The main reading room is laid out with a series of large tables with lamps...there are a number of cushy chairs at the end of the room which has an entire wall of glass facing Bascom Mall...neat view. There are carrels spread around the other library floors, some locking and some not. It does not appear there are enough carrels for each student...hence the reading rooms. This yields a lot of seating spread out around the library. Wisconsin's Law School is well-ranked in the top-50 tier of schools and the faculty is well regarded. Being located in the capital city of Madison, the school has the benefit of experienced lawyers coming in as adjuncts and job/internship opportunities for students. We were out looking at law schools and stopped by for a visit...even though we showed up unannounced they had someone in the Admissions Office who provided us with a self-guided tour brochure...nice touch. It just showed a welcoming attitude, and a school that is not resting on its laurels. A good choice for a top-50 law school just 2 1/2 hours from Chicago.
