Utopia was installed in the Design District in conjunction with Art Basel. It was created by designer Lara Bohinc with Design Miami/Curatorial Lab. This art piece was a winner of this year's Annual Design Commission.
Utopia consist of multiple pieces of bulbous cork furniture, outdoor seating, tables and oversized light sculptures. You can find it in the Palm Court in front of Buckminster Fuller Fly's Eye Dome. There are also 900 egg-form birdhouses for wildlife hung throughout the trees. All of the art is in pastel colors to pay homage to Miami's color scheme.
I love the whimsy of the pieces and how it is interactive. Birds flock to the eggs in the trees where they find shelter and people are drawn to the bright colors of the furniture where they can find a place to sit and rest for a moment. It is functional and fun. Utopia will be on display until spring 2024. read more
