Utility is a distinctive looking housewares/hardware shop in the North Laine, selling very utilitarian, WWII-esque (and thus, super trendy) items, such as plain red enamel mugs, the classic teatowel (white with a red stripe round the edge), earthenware jugs and plain bound notebooks. The building itself is cool, in a dark iron grey with a square window on the front and the Utility logo, a pointing finger, painted on the side. The stuff they have is very lovely, I splashed out £2.50 for one of the enamel mugs and I adore it, unfortunately their stock is all just a little bit expensive for me to really love the place. If their stuff was about 25-30% cheaper I would buy everything they had, as it is I have restricted myself to my one cherished mug. read more
