Incompetent and rude employees. Went here for passport services. I had to make an appointment and take time off work to do so. The man who started to process my passport didn't understand anything about passports, the identification or forms required, or even how to read the letter I received from the state department telling him, step by step, what he needed to do. He had me wait an inordinate amount of time for him to photocopy 1 page, refused my CVS pictures, and made me fill out the same forms multiple times for no reason. He yelled at me and I was told to move from station to station a total of 4 times for no apparent reason (there was literally no one else in the post office) while I was waiting for him to photocopy that one page. I was so irritated that I ended up just leaving halfway through the process. read more

Do NOT apply for a passport here. They lost my son's application including the payment, birth certificate, charged us too much and then gave us stamps instead of refunding us now and they refuse to provide a tracking number or to report the application as missing. After reaching out several times, State department called me back and told me this facility is not following protocol for missing applications. I think the employees were actually glad to see me totally helpless and just kept repeating that there's nothing they can do. State department will be reporting this incident so hopefully it doesn't happen to others but don't chance it with your own applications. read more

This is the worst post office I've ever been to. It's the closest one to me, so I feel like I HAVE to deal with their shenanigans. Most of the staff are rude. Most don't care (or give the appearance they don't care). I've been yelled at and I've mutually yelled back at them. I can't stand these people. They constantly give out wrong info. And they don't give a hoot when it's wrong. The experience here is worse than the DMV. They truly lack f***s to give. I sometimes lose my salvation trying to get the RIGHT answers out of them. If you can help it, go to another post office. Because they will give you either anxiety, a headache or just upset your soul. read more

Beautiful post office with all you need. Staff is friendly by most standards though some days obviously you get nicer people than others. The will have new hours starting on September 14, 2009 M-F 9am to 7pm Sat and Sun 9am to 5pm Still pretty good but sad they are not open early mornings anymore. read more

I love when I go to the post office at 4:15 knowing they close at 5 and seeing a sign saying out to lunch be back ten minutes before closing time! At least I felt secure having been waved with a wand and accused of having a knife after my belt set off the metal detector. So great. read more

The attendants here really don't want to help you and seem to have no patience. They also treat your packages with no respect. I have only shipped from here a few times, but they have acted the same way every time. Once I handed them a box and they literally threw it into a bin over their shoulder instead of just placing it. There really was no need to handle my mail that way. The place is clean and I appreciate that it's there. The area could really use more post offices. read more

How many times do you need to mail that package you see sitting in your entry way but before you know it, it's Sunday and you will be starting your week with that package still sitting there collecting dust and occupying limited DC real estate. But wait!!! Just because it is Sunday does not mean you can't walk to the post office and mail those important letters and packages. This branch is open on Sunday's. Not only is it open with more convenient hours, but the staff is friendly. How many times can you go to the Post Office and the staff is consistently friendly. read more

Just an FYI - Union Station Post office is NO LONGER open at 7pm on weekdays. It closes EVERYDAY at 5PM (opens at 9). The only perk is that is is open on Saturdays (limited hours as well), so don't waste the trip (as I did) thinking that it is opened later during the week. It is not. I DREAD coming to this post office. I find the staff to be condescending and rude. In mailing parcels with prepaid stamps I have always been able to get a reciept. Today, they denied me a reciept because its not "policy". I told the gentleman kindly that previously, I was always able to get a reciept from staff at this office. He said well then go to someone else. Are you serious? It's 9 AM and I am like your 4th customer of the day. Is it weird to rate a post office?! Ok so this one isn't my closest PO, but it is my favorite one to go to because 1) its gorgeous and 2) the people who work at this location GET IT DONE. I LOVE this post office!!! It's open 7 days a week so there's really no excuse for not getting your packages mailed. The employees are always nice and friendly, which isn't something you expect from a government building in DC. The lines do get long at peak hours but they move quickly and it's a very pretty space so you don't mind being there. read more

If i were giving stats for architecture and ambiance, i would give 5 stars. It truly is beautiful in there. However, the whole experience is ruined by one of the worst clerks ever. There is one lady (gray hair, glasses and on the chubby side) that is just so completely rude to customers. Everytime i am in line listening to her berate the customers and basically say no to every request, i pray another clerk will wait on me. She would not get a particular book of stamps for this kid and her dad because too many people were in line and she didn't have time to go get them. She told one lady that she would not get her box key because that would take 15 minutes and it was too close to closing time. Her coworkers just seem embarrassed by her and give everyone who deals with her a small smile adds if to say sorry. read more

I was running late to catch my train home and thought oh man I forgot stamps so I ran downstairs to the post office. They had a line when I got there, but thankfully for me the peoople working behind the desk were fast and efficent. I not only bought the stamps I needed they helped me buy a prestamped envelope for my pictures. Awesome service. read more

I come here often to mail something or buy stamps. I tried calling them to make an appointment for my passport application and no one answered the phone and since it was near my work, I went over and asked them about it. The man behind the counter said, I need to call the number he scribbled down (which does not match the number online by the State Dept listing of USPS facilities. I told him, no one is answering the phone, can I make the appointment here but he insisted to call. So, I went back to the office to call the number and no one is picking up the phone. So, I started calling around other post office locations to see if this is a widespread issue and so far, I was able to get a hold of the Bailey's crossroads location that can only take me 3 to 4 weeks away....sigh...I'll still keep looking. read more

I am moving to a new city and had to mail multiple heavy boxes. I made two trips to this post office and both times Stan helped me. He is amazing and made what could have been a very painfully stressful experience quick and painless. Stan was helpful, patient, and efficient. Not to mention, an employee helped me and my friend by holding the doors and offering a dolly to help with the large packages. This post office is clean, organized, and spacious. Horrible customer service just like most offices around DC Metro area. The service is located in the Postal Museum Building on Mass. Avenue in DC. Firs impression is very nice and attractive area with lots of interesting displays and also some fun for kids. However, when it comes to the postal service itself located inside the building, it is horrible! They have about 6-8 windows, but usually either one or two windows are open while I see some postal employees wandering around. No wonder you will end up staying in line. You will get stuck there forever if someone in front of you wants to send an international shipment thanks to too many procedures that the staff member should perform. read more

This is the main Post Office in DC. Sadly, budget cuts have forced even this location to cut hours several times: now open only until 7pm M-F. It's dark and dingy, but it's a classic historic building. Lines can be long evenings and weekends. Still, it's one of only 2 DC Post Offices open after 5:30pm (the other being Friendship Heights), and the only one open Sundays. Excited to find a USPS close to the office, I happily walked over for a 9 am opening on July 23rd with my premium priced (i.e. almost 3x the regular cost) small box priority item ready to go. The guy sauntered in 10 - 15 minutes late (i.e. scheduled opening at 9 am), took his time opening windows and took my package. This was only the beginning of the madness. I should have left with the package then. He managed to miskey the zip code on the package. It took two calls to the call center, opening two case numbers, over the course of nearly two weeks. If you ever have to call to help USPS fix their mistakes, do NOT give the system the tracking number. If you do, the automated system will not allow you to speak to someone. This poor package ran the Toledo, OH - Allen Park, MI - Columbus, OH circuit FOUR times before being delivered almost 2 weeks later on 8/2. One of the calls they indicated that the package may be returned to me as best case scenario. What a disappointment. read more

OK, so you can't beat the hours but the customer service attitude of one of the ladies there leaves a lot to be desired. I got there 8 minutes before closing and she kept yeling at people that she was closing and kept stressing how she needs to go home. Perhaps she should just stay home with an attitude like that. People who get in 8 minutes before closing still have 8 minutes to be taken care of. She kicked out a lady who was already in their office right at 7 (closing time), the first retail location where I've seen a customer who's already in sent away. read more

Place was open on a Sunday, which was nice. Parking wasn't bad and was free on sunday, but the biggest disappointment was the apathetic attitudes of the employees. Asked to buy a stamp and she told me that they didn't sell stamps. As a post office, I was definitely surprised by that one. read more

This is the worst Post Office in the city!! Not only do they provide mediocre customer service, it never seems to be enough customer services representatives on shift for the amount of windows in the office. The line gets extremely long and only 2 windows are open. Also, I have visited this office 3 times in one week just to submit my passport application because I work in the area and you don't need an appointment to submit an app (2 stars), but I am always redirected to come back after 2 pm even though passport hours are from 10 am-3 pm. The representatives seem annoyed when you ask them a question and they inform you to visit another office for services when they don't want to be bothered. I overnighted a package on a Wednesday and the receiver did not receive my package until Saturday! I spoke with a representative and he informed me that I would receive a full refund because my package wasn't delivered in the 24 hours as I payed... I went to the Howard U USPS in the administration building to receive my refund and they informed me that they weren't allowed to refund at their location so I went to the Florida Ave (NW) USPS and they told me that they couldn't refund me and that I would have to go to this USPS. After stopping 2 times at 2 different USPS for the refund. I came to the specific one and the representative (Stan I believe) told me that his supervisor would have to approve for me to get the refund. After 20 minutes of waiting, the representative informed me that the supervisor did not approve my refund because the delivery person couldn't understand a number 1 from 7 on the zip code EVEN THOUGH THERE IS ONLY ONE ADDRESS TO MATCH EVERY LOCATION! Finally, I spoke with the Supervisor Tidwell and he was rude, unprofessional and careless! I was disgusted with the representatives of this specific office. The supervisor personal cell phone ring while I was explaining my story and he told me to wait a minute while he answered his phone! ITS BECAUSE OF HIM THAT I PROMISE TO NEVER USE USPS AGAIN. This is the 2nd time this year they lost my mail! The first time they must have stole the iPhone that was sent to me! As for Mr. TIDWELL, you should not be representing a business like this.
