Sometimes to get stamps, sometimes just to have them weigh my parcel so I did not accidentally put to much postage on it. All things considered, I was happy this place was so close, but always a bit annoyed when I had to come here. In the age of Fedex and UPS, lots of people criticize USPS. Here is something that I love about them: the one-rate boxes. They have boxes that you can cram as much stuff as possible into and it is always the same rate. Here is the problem with USPS. Fedex and UPS are much more conveniently located and spread throughout cities. I was lucky to have USPS so close, but not that lucky. Because this is the main branch, it would ALWAYS be packed. Most recently I was here bright and early at 8am. There was only one employee working and I had about 4 people in front of me. I am thankful the employee was cheerful and SO FAST. She really did a good job. I only waited about 10 minutes. By the time I left, the line behind me was twice as long. It will probably get worse as the day goes on, but more employees will join her at the counter. I recall that since I was a little kid, I have never been to a Post Office that did not have a huge line. That is why I used to despise going there when I was little. I still feel that same angst as I walk through to automatic doors. Michael S. is right to point out that they sure do have a TON of P.O. Boxes. And I never recall being uncomfortably warm while waiting in the huge lines, so he must also be right about the air conditioning. Overall, I like the employees at this Post Office. They are friendly and really kick butt doing their job while keeping customers happy. I also truly hope they decided (or decide) not to close down this branch. While I do not live as close as I used to, I can only imagine that the crowds at other Post Offices will only get 100 times worse if this branch is closed. Sometime less is more, but I guarantee that saying will not hold true for the number of Post Offices that the government has in any given region. While I cannot say that I am a fan, this Post Office was A-OK!

One lady in particular always asks about my children and I ask about hers (we both have two boys and she has watched mine grow up). This branch has a pretty large selection of USPS merchandise as well as shipping containers, etc. They have a self-serve kiosk and mail boxes on site for rent.

Regardless, the staff at this USPS are very nice; one even held my baby for me when I was trying to sign for a package. They work quickly and efficiently, so typically when there is a line, it's because of people who roll up to the counter completely unprepared, forcing everyone else to wait for them; nothing the USPS can do about that other than not permitting stupid people to enter the building. The location is great; it's near city hall, the city services building across the street and all the Corey Ave shops and restaurants.

The package arrived at my door at 4:50 p.m. on a Wednesday, so I jumped in my car to mail it at USPS. (Recently I used UPS to send my sister a package and learned that it is more expensive and takes longer to reach people. She will never let me forget it). Well, low and behold, most USPS close at 5 p.m.! I then called UPS since they are open later and basically thought fuggit, I'll pay more if I can get this out now. Turns out UPS would have cost more and they didn't have the 1-3 day option that USPS has so it would have taken longer. (Why does anyone use UPS?). At this point it was about 5:20 and I figured I'd have to wait until the next day to mail the package. That's when I was struck with the brilliant thought that maybe other USPS stores are open later (why that didn't hit me at the beginning, I do not know). I found out that this one was open until 6 p.m. AND it was 4 minutes from where I was getting dinner at 6 p.m. (although even if it wasn't I would have just been super late to dinner because this package was more important. Basically the heavens were smiling on me at that moment). I raced to this USPS and made it here at 5:40 p.m. Once inside there was only one person in line, but minutes after there was a line of about six of us (again, thank you heavens for helping me beat that line). There was one cashier and he was excruciatingly slow when helping a customer. I was really freaked out that they might kick everyone out at 6 p.m. That's when my savior descended in the form of a no nonsense lady employee who basically started blasting through the line. Unlike the other employee, she had all of us who weren't prepared (totally guilty) fill out forms off to the side so she could help others who were ready. She was a multitasking machine. Yes, it came out to about $93 to get a package to Australia in 1-3 days (and stupid weekends don't count so it came out to five days), but again out of all my options, that was the cheapest and the fastest. The clientele who come here range from all walks of life. I never felt completely unsafe, but at the same time if someone told me there was a shooting in the parking lot, I wouldn't be surprised. Hopefully, I'll never have to mail something again in my life, but if I do and it is after 5 p.m., I wouldn't hesitate to go here.
