Dirty Little Paws Rescue

I wish I could give more than 5 stars!…read more I have been patient in looking to add a kitten/cat to our family and stumbled across Marigold on a fosters Instagram page which prompted me to submit an application. Kat reached out the very next day after reviewing our application and pre approved us. Yelena reached out for all coordination afterwards. Marigold was not even posted on the rescues page but they were so kind and were able to get us in to meet her. The foster mom (and dad) were wonderful and have been doing this for so long (60+ kitties). We instantly fell in love with Marigold and were able to be selected to adopt her (pat on our back for being able to provide a good home). She came from a hoarder home and was lucky to survive from malnutrition. We came back to get her after getting she completed her shots/spayed. Not even 24 hours in, my one year old tabby loves her and she is settling in perfectly. I will say I have had not so great experiences with other rescues in the area and Dirty Little Paws surpassed all expectations! I hope one day I can repay them and foster another baby in need.

Helping Paws Foundation truly changed everything for us. As a military family, unexpected medical costs can be overwhelming, and their financial assistance made it possible for Coco to receive the care she needed. What they do to help families stay together with their pets during difficult times is incredibly special and deeply appreciated. Dr. Souther provided amazing care and gave me so much confidence throughout the process. Christina, the executive director, was so gentle and attentive, and it was clear how much she truly cared. I will always be thankful for the compassion, support, and kindness we were shown. Coco is healing, and that means the world to us.

I had been treating my Frenchie for a Sarcoma like Cancer that had returned immediately after having another Vet remove an Ulcer like growth. Unfortunately, once it returned I had no idea or money for another solution. I had already spent hundreds of dollars and had no other financial way to help him. I somehow came across the Helpingpawssandiego.org and emailed them for any help I could get. They quickly responded to my email, asked for some basic information and then set up an appointment with a Veterinarian of their choice. I went to the appointment and met such an amazing team that saw the desperation in my eyes. I had no financial means to help my Toro and they made sure to tell me that they would find a way to help me. Unfortunately due to the severity of my Toros Cancer, I made the Difficult decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge. The team assured me that they would not be leaving me with a massive bill, instead they helped sponsor my Toros care. I cannot tell you how Thankful I am for this organization. If you or anybody you know is a Veteran and is in need of assistance due to financial hardship, please reach out to Helpingpawssandiego.org I will forever be grateful for what they did to help me get through this incredibly difficult time. I will also be donating to Helpingpaws, to help pay it forward for another Veteran that will be in need.

From my very first day, it was clear that this organization is guided by a deep commitment to transforming lives, not just meeting temporary needs. Their mission--to permanently solve family homelessness through accountability, empowerment, and opportunity--is not just a statement on paper. It is lived out in every conversation, every program, and every interaction I witnessed. What sets Solutions for Change apart is their unwavering belief in the potential of every individual. Their values of leadership, responsibility, community, and long-term transformation shine through in the way they support families. Instead of offering quick fixes, they focus on equipping people with the tools, skills, and confidence to rebuild their lives in a sustainable way. This approach doesn't just change circumstances--it changes futures. As a volunteer, I felt valued and included in a mission much bigger than myself. The staff leads with compassion and clarity, always emphasizing dignity and empowerment. Watching parents take bold steps toward stability and seeing children thrive in a safe, supportive environment reminded me that real change happens when people are given both hope and responsibility. My time at Solutions for Change strengthened my belief that lasting transformation is possible when an organization listens deeply, leads boldly, and works alongside the people they serve. I'm grateful to have played even a small part in their mission and would encourage anyone seeking a meaningful volunteer experience to get involved. This is truly a place where change is not only possible--it's happening every day

This used to be our go-to thrift store in the area, because they did have very nice items, but…read morethings have changed significantly over the last several months. First and foremost: their prices are RIDICULOUS, when they didn't use to be just six months ago. They have always been slightly higher than an average thrift store, because their products have been somewhat nicer, but not THAT nice. The last three or four times we've stopped by to browse, we've seen that their prices have DOUBLED or TRIPLED, to the point that they are now, honestly, just as, if not more costly than comparative items bought NEW (!) at retail outlets like Ross or TJ Maxx. This last time I was there, just a couple of days ago, they wanted $4-5 for a USED TEACUP, and $20 for a tiny little 5 x 7 framed print that would have cost $5 bucks at the TWO larger thrift stores that are literally about a stone's throw away, in shopping centers across the street. I was shocked - I doubt that print would have cost $20 when it was NEW! Suffice to say, I didn't buy it... or anything else. We have donated MANY good-quality, gently used items over the past six or seven years, but I will no longer be doing so, at least for the foreseeable future, as this place is, in my opinion, simply put, price-gouging customers. I even mentioned the exorbitant price increases to several associates, who merely smirked and laughed it off. It's not going to be funny when you can't pay your rent, because their customers are going elsewhere - literally, across the street. In addition, as several other reviewers have mentioned, I have also noticed that the staff they now have working there have become very rude and dismissive. Their attitudes have completely changed, compared to even just a few months ago, so I don't know what's happening with this place. So, to that end: I have decided to vote with my wallet and go elsewhere. For example: today, I have been accumulating a large bag of clothing and various household items that I intended to donate when I'm up that way ... but I will be taking it to the Goodwill across the street. I'm not going to support a business which is, in my opinion, ripping people off and who employs associates who are just snide and discourteous. They need to remember, if they want to stay in business, that there are THREE thrift stores almost literally within a stone's throw, just across the street from each other, so their practices and attitudes are going to cost them, as their former customers will just start going elsewhere. I'll stop by in a couple of months to see if anything has changed, in terms of their pricing... and, if not, I hate to say it, but, they've lost a very longtime, loyal customer. Do better, y'all. This is a THRIFT STORE, not a consignment shop or a boutique. You're selling hand-me-downs that the community has donated to a CHARITY. To the owner or upper management: tell those women you have working there to come down off their high-horse and behave like it.

They have a pretty cool rewards system, so make sure you get a card when you go in. I suggest taking a photo of the barcode on the back of the card, so even if you don't have it with you physically they can still scan it Their dresses are always really good, but I am still keeping this spot at 4 star because some things in their furniture, name brand section, and new with tags section are just a little pricey in my opinion. I will be coming back. Really nice man who works here and I love the music they play

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just as guests, but as people in need of a safe, supportive space to breathe and regroup. The home itself is peaceful and thoughtfully maintained, with every detail clearly designed to bring a sense of calm to families like ours. But beyond the physical comforts, what meant the most was the human kindness. The staff checked in on us, offered encouraging words, and created a space where we didn't feel so alone in our grief and uncertainty. It's rare to find a place that truly lives out its mission, but Jacob's House does just that.
