Easy, make sure you arrive a little bit earlier than your appointment time! Lots of people schedule for the same time. Process is easy!

Texas Lottery Commission - Her and her winnings

I'd attempted to claim the $160 ticket at a couple of gas stations and was turned away, so during my lunch hour on the Friday before the new year weekend I found this claim center location online and decided to stop in. The building was very unassuming and the only security for the building was a middle-aged guy in a golf cart, staring down at his phone, in the parking lot. I saw no security inside the building or inside the office. That was a little concerning. NOTE: For anyone who wins big in the lotto, it's pretty much up to you to protect yourself when visiting this location. When I entered the office, which consists of a wall of windows looking into the waiting area and the waiting area is the size of a typical doctor's waiting room, with a huge plexiglass partition that had round holes cut out to talk through and cut-out slots to pass things back-and-forth below each of about three of the holes. There were three couples sitting in the waiting room and no customers at any of the windows. I approached the counter and a claim representative, whose last name is Torres, slowly made his way to the counter and asked how he can help me. Through the small cut-out circle, I told him that I had a envelope of tickets that I needed to claim. He looked at me, blankly, looked down at the 20+ tickets I had in the envelope, gave a very annoyed sigh and with an aggravated tone asked me how much it was. I told him that I didn't know. He told me that I could use the scanner at the end of the counter. After I get the total dollar amount of the ticket, I move back to the counter. At least two other reps are at desks and just stare at me standing at the counter. Mr. Torres is standing at a computer, closer to the window, and looks at me with contempt as he slowly makes his way back to the counter. I give him the number, he looks down at the tickets and gives me that aggravated sigh, again. In a continued annoyed tone, he tells me that I can get the clams at a store. I expressed that" I'm here at the claim center, why can't I claim the tickets here?" He then says, again in an annoyed tone, "If you want to fill out the back of each ticket and fill out the claim form, it's up to you." All the while, he has one hand on his hip and one on the counter, looking at the envelope as if it was a toxic waste bag. Now, my patience is done. I told him to forget it, since he was acting like he didn't want to help me in the first place, and I left. I'm not sure why Mr. Torres couldn't have just done the job of a Texas Lottery Commission Claim Center Representative OR kindly explained my options and suggested my going to a customer service booth at a grocery store. I don't understand why he had such a horrible attitude.

Seriously, these are really nice people here every time I've had to come in (four times so far...) They aren't able to do drivers licenses (sorry) and do mostly title work (per their site - replacement titles, bonded title rejection letters, apportioned registration (IRP credentials and temporary operating authority for established accounts), annual permits (NAFTA), and investigating and resolving Texas title errors). But the limits of what they can do is a shortcoming of our state govt, not these nice guys. I got screwed over by HCAD with my homeowners exemption (I know I mailed it in) and now they require your DL to have the correct addy and your vehicle registration address (not just mailing) to have the correct addy before they'll fix it. So I came here and they were super helpful in getting me fixed up. The process stinks (you fill it out one day, have to come back another for the copy) but they do the best they can. I was additionally screwed by Toyota Financial by having the gall to payoff my car early with an official check from my bank and they sent the title in the bank's name instead of mine. These guys have been super helpful with that and with the Release of Lien from Toyota got me a copy of the title with my name on it, though the final part of the process (their computer actually reflecting me as the lien holder) must be done at a county office (thanks Toyota, you owe me about $35.45 so far for your error, but that's a separate issue) None of this is fun times, but these guys get four stars for being super nice, getting you prepped with all docs and info you need to get the job done and for being easy to get to.
