All I had to do at that point was to give the school a call, and see if they are even open (due to COVID), and if they are, how they are operating and what not. Easy, right? Wrong. I tried the contact number that was listed on the internet first. No answer. I believe their website had the same number, so no luck there either. After about an hour of search, I was able to find a number, I guess on their facebook page. It went straight to voice mail (I think it was a google voice number), and the greeting gave another number and suggested that I "text" that number. I left a voice mail, and then sent text to the other number, as suggested. No answer. I kept calling and leaving voice mails, and texting both numbers for the following two days. No answer. Mr and Mrs. Hogle are excellent teachers, impressive martial artists, and they care deeply about their students. They teach traditional ITF Taekwondo and their classes are a perfect combination of really good workouts, technical learning and character building. I'm always very impressed by the demeanor of the kids I train with there. As an adult woman, I also have a particular appreciation for the gender equality that I find at this school. Some of the other schools I trained at had somewhat of a "boys club" feel to them. I would often be the only female in the class and the students seemed uncomfortable training with a woman. There is none of that at Holon Wellness. Mr and Mrs. Hogle set the tone as they are both equally fierce fighters and their classes are very diverse (from gender to age). Along with working out the frustrations of my day, I was able to improve my cardio, build muscle and boost my balance. At my age (ahem...past middle age), I am in better shape than many of my peers. I watched my son learn from wonderful instructors and student helpers (STORM members) who cared for him physically and emotionally, with their emphasis on living the 5 tenets of Taekwondo, as well as maintaining good grades and behavior. Students at JW Kim learn far more than martial arts: they learn to be a team; they learn life skills in the daily "mat chats"; they learn the importance of making their best effort. Another thing I love about JW Kim is the number of safety measures they have put in place since the beginning of the pandemic. This sends a clear message that JW Kim cares about students and their families as well as their staff, by keeping the dojang and its lobby clean and safe for all. After few months my kid became physically and emotionally stronger and I am proud of every little achievement he is making. My kids love KCTKD and I love KCTKD. My kids have been going there a year now. A year ago my son…read more(a first grader at the time) was having big problems focusing and about 6 months into his KCTKD journey, his teacher commented on how much his focus had improved. So much that she was able to move him up to the next level reading group. My daughter (now a fourth grader) is very shy and wouldn't volunteer or speak up. This month, one of her teachers told me that she is taking more risks and raising her hand more. I contribute their positive transition to KCTKD. The instructors work with them on their focus and encourage them to get involved. They are positive role models in my kids lives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, KCTKD continued. They didn't close down but instead offered classes online. This was the one thing in my kids lives that was a constant and brought some stability during a time where everything else was turned upside down or was taken away. My kids have been resilient throughout this whole ordeal and I attribute a lot of their resiliency to the innovation and support of Master Cam and the other instructors at KCTKD.
