I graduated with good grades, a high GPA, and as a Medical Assistant student ambassador. One of my biggest concerns is that admissions does not clearly explain that completing the program does not make you a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). You receive a diploma, but you still have to take and pay for a separate certification exam. I feel this should be made much clearer before students enroll. The lab experience was also disappointing. Many necessary supplies were out of stock, unavailable, or broken, which limited our hands-on training. I knew before enrolling that I wanted to eventually work in pediatrics because I enjoy working with children, yet we weren't even shown how to properly weigh/measure pediatric patients or administer pediatric injections. My biggest issue, however, was Career Services. My assigned representative, Markia, told me, "It's not about what you're comfortable with. It's time for you to put your big girl panties on" when I explained that I was uncomfortable being placed at a primary care clinic for my first job and wanted to find a more specialized setting. I was shocked and didn't know how to respond. Interviews were also scheduled without asking what times worked for me. I was sent to Encino, taking two buses, only to find out upon arrival that the position was for a traveling Medical Assistant. I was then scheduled at another clinic for 8 AM, only to arrive and discover the clinic wasn't even open yet. When I was upset and crying while explaining this to Career Services, I felt there was very little empathy or support. During my externship, I also felt I wasn't learning enough because much of my time involved front-desk duties rather than hands-on back-office Medical Assistant work. When I asked about finding another site, Markia told me, "Now you want to travel? Last time the issue was that you didn't want to travel." My issue had always been my transportation limitations, not that I refused to travel. The financial aspect makes this experience even more frustrating. I personally paid a little over $13,000 out of pocket, which I paid off in less than a year after completing the program. Based on my experience with my payments, interest was charged daily. After spending over $13,000, I attempted two different Medical Assistant jobs over approximately nine months and ultimately decided not to pursue the field. I understand that students need to be flexible and step outside their comfort zones, but students also deserve clear information, adequate hands-on training, respectful communication, and genuine career support. I strongly recommend researching the program carefully, including the certification requirements, additional costs, hands-on training, externship placement, and Career Services, before enrolling.

But I would not wish this school as a whole on my worst enemy. I have gone through my bachelors and stupidity fell for that this would be a good stepping stone before BSN which if any of the staff had any morals they would have said. That being said I know school. I usually LOVE school, but this LVN program is not school. It feels like a humiliation/right of passage/im not helping bc no one helped me thing and it's disgusting. I have no kind words to say and im sure no one else does either. I understood and fell in love with nursing because of professor simple nursing and YouTube and mark k bc I WORKED MY ASS OFF but there were times the school made it feel like they wanted us to fail. On top of all that when we passed our exit and became graduates the horror show did not end. The director didn't allow us to sign up for the NCLEX on our own and forced us to wait three weeks to sign up together ultimately delaying us and decreasing our chances of passing based on the statistics on how long you wait. When I took my exit I was 95% passed rate accordingly to the software we used. I study daily but it's just hard working so hard and not receiving any respect or kindness from anyone (except the wonderful and amazing clinical instructor). DEEPLY DISAPPOINTING & borderline traumatizing passed my NCLEX & exit exam & absolutely no thanks to them

He took the time to thoroughly explain every chapter of the textbook and made sure we understood each concept before moving on. What I admired most was his patience--he always welcomed questions from my classmates and me, even if they had already been answered or didn't seem directly related to the lesson. He never made anyone feel embarrassed for asking. One of the things that made his class so engaging was the way he shared stories and experiences from his long career as a phlebotomist. Hearing real-life scenarios and learning how he handled them gave us valuable insight into what to expect in the field and helped connect the material to actual patient care. Most importantly, he created a comfortable and supportive environment during lab. Drawing blood from one another can be incredibly nerve-racking. You're trusting people you've only recently met to perform a procedure with a needle, which can be intimidating. Professor Joshua took the time to explain each step, reassure us, and help build our confidence. He never became upset or frustrated when a procedure didn't go as planned. Instead, he remained patient, encouraged us to learn from our mistakes, and reminded us that everyone improves with practice. I genuinely enjoyed my time at So Cal Phlebotomy Institute, and Professor Joshua played a huge role in that experience. His dedication, professionalism, and kindness made the 40-minute drive every morning completely worth it. I highly recommend this program to anyone considering a career in phlebotomy, especially if they have the opportunity to learn from Professor Joshua.
