I really have to mention her because she is one of the most beautiful people I have ever had the pleasure of interacting with. There is something about her that is so soothing. I'm almost sure it's her voice. She is not needlessly bubbly-- just genuinely a good soul. She is so kind, knowledgeable, and endlessly patient with students (sending snail mail is this campus' most arcane field). I have never once detected a note of irritation in her voice. She answers any all questions clearly. And she makes sure that the office is running without chaos. I'm contemplating sending needless mail because she always brightens my day. I always wonder about her friends and family because they are some lucky folk to have her in their lives. Definitely go here over the post office on Green. That one's nice too, but this in a different league.

I digress..... This branch in Terre Haute gets 5 Stars in my Yelping mind for a few reasons: 1) There never seems to be a line at this location. Heck, I was there at 8:45AM this morning shooting the breeze with the postal clerk for 10 minutes before I even saw another customer walk in. Maybe now that I have dumped this spot into Yelp, I have jinxed myself and swarms of people will be flocking to this location, but I kind of think not. 2) They are open until 7PM during the week and 4PM on the weekend. Say what????? Please know that other US Post Offices across the US are never open this late, especially on a Saturday. 4PM on Saturdays? That is almost 6 full days of having a post office available to you...with funds being cut and losing money, post offices across the country are trimming back days and hours, not having great hours like this Terre Haute branch does. 3). Passport hours are posted as 9am-3:15pm Monday through Friday. Another unheard of at all US Post Offices across the US. (Passport services are not available on Saturdays). 4). Staff is always sincerely pretty nice. Customers to the post office universally can be not nice (short on time, always in a hurry, expectations too high). But I gotta tell yeah, as an official "Post Office Geek," the staff here are pretty nice, normal and sincerely there to help you. 5) They have a very organized and stocked array of merchandise from greeting cards, tapes, post wrapping papers and boxes. Compared to other US Post Office branches, this location always seems relatively organized, clean and stocked. So there is my input on this US Post Office location. Pick up a pen and write your dear mom or kind Aunt Netty a note and stop into the post office to check it out for yourself. Heck, buy the card for your beloved relative that does not even know what your handwriting looks like right there on site and then mail it in one fell swoop!

I rescheduled the delivery online, and it said it was to be redelivered on the date which I specified. A day later I realized they then had decided to cancel that without notice, and they weren't going to deliver it at all. So I now have to go pick it up, however I don't know which location to pick it up at since they didn't leave a notice, and they don't give an address online. Overall extremely frustrating experience, and still haven't even gotten the package yet.

The worker inside admitted to the mishandling and said she still had 2 trucks out and would have them swing back around to fix it. Waited and waited but 24 hours later still no package. Leigh ( clerk) did not know where / why he left. Didn't seem too interested in finding out. She called him to which no eta was given. Jon showed up an hr after scheduled appt to assist us. We had called savoy to go there and were informed the office on Mattis is basically unreliable for this service. 2 of us missed worked time thanks to Jon being careless bout our time and our scheduled appt .

Mail a letter from your address in Urbana to your neighbor down the street...your letter comes here first for sorting. This location is also the only one in the area with a self-serve shipping kiosk, which can do the work of about four USPS employees.

There must be something in their union agreement about only being allowed to help 6 customers an hour. No urgency whatsoever. Today, I ventured to the post office in Savoy. Despite living in Champaign this location is closest to our new home. Walked in and there were only a couple of people in line. No biggy, as this gave me time to look at their greeting cards. They were helped as quickly as possible. Yay! I was just there to check-in a package that I already had postage on, so my transaction was easy peasy. Will most definitely be back; maybe just for greeting cards. They had a lot of fun ones.

Went in to apply for a passport, no wait, especially if you get there at 9:30 am when they start doing passports. The woman told me they do get several people a day applying. The process did not take long, as long as you fill out the application in black ink only at home. Married folks who changed your last name, don't forget to bring your marriage certificate as well as your birth certificate, folks without name change, just birth certificate. As long as you have all the necessary documents, you won't be there very long. They take your photo also. Which was great, especially since they know what is acceptable and not for the photo versus going to cvs and it being to shiny or something. Love this post office, they have the friendliest staff.

I have been taking packages to the post office my whole life using click and ship prepaid labels my…read moreand never had an issue besides at the Paxton post office. The women who work the front counter are not helpful at all. Every time I take a prepaid box in they argue with me that i cannot use my own box to ship even though there clearly is a chose your own box option on the click and ship website for USPS. They always ask me to purchase one of their boxes until I pull up their website to prove that there is the chose your own box option. The employees also argue that the box must be dead on the weight. I understand it cannot be over but when I took a package with a label for 5 lbs in they told me that my 4.8 lb package had "no integrity" and that if I went home and made my package exactly 5 lbs on the dot they would take it. Every time I have gone in they try to hand me my package back and ask me to go to another post office. It seems to me that they are untrained, uninformed, and would rather have people drive out of their way to other towns to have their packages shipped than do there job and scan a label. It's sad but if you do not like having your time wasted or dealing with rude employees I would suggest taking the extra time to go to rantoul or Gibson, the workers at the Paxton post office would probably prefer you did anyway.
