It's not the worst post office in the world, but I've been using it consistently since 2001 and it's only gotten worse, not better. I'm so tired of the ex-stoner who works there most of the time. I never remember his name, but believe me, you'll recognize him. He looks like a refugee from a 70s or 80s punk rock band who didn't end up succumbing completely to the excesses of the era. He takes forever with customers, asking them endless unnecessary questions, even when said customer has taken 12 or 13 minutes and counting. Get them moving and out of there! By now there are a dozen customers piled up in the lobby! It shouldn't take over 20 minutes to mail a simple package within the continental US. He always seems like his brain is fried. Simple questions are flustering to him, like he's a new employee. When you ask him a simple question about anything he snaps at you, like it's your job to know HIS job. That's not the way it goes for the real world. I read some reviews below. I saw one critic point out Stephanie. She is absolutely right to do so. I can't remember if it was to me or to someone else by now, but I remember her being handed a 50 dollar bill and her shouting "I'm not a bank here!" No, you're an employee. Act like a professional. There is one nice man, probably in his early to late 50s, who I used to see working the window more often, but sadly haven't in a while. He was always warm, even-tempered and professional. I miss him. I go here because this is my town, but I guarantee you the Sayreville post office is run much more professionally. Sometimes I go out of my way to go there even though it's a town over, just to avoid the palaver, brusqueness and idiocy that runs rampant at the South Amboy post office. read more

Did they hire from the pool of people fired from the DMV? The service is slow, rude, and just unprofessional. I don't blame the employees entirely. The location appears horribly managed and seems to be a horrible place to work. The location looks run down. They have missing tube lighting. There is a yellowish tint to everything from cigarette smoke? From the 70s? 80s? There also isn't any parking. You have to find street parking. read more

Don't you just love reviews. I guess they can be like ex-spouses where people have two very different experiences with the same person. Ok, so I wanted to give them 5 stars because they have been nice to me many times and helped me with problems. I just talked to Heidi because it was Saturday, I have to go to work, but I also have to sign for a camera lens that I need for an event on Sunday. She told me what to do so I could get the lens delivered today and not have to go to my event without it. In the past they have told me to write a note, or held an item so I can get it earlier then the carrier arrived. They have always helped me. So why only 4 stars, I agree there is only one small window and one worker at the window. I am sure this has to do with an administrative decision as South Amboy is a small town, and I am sure that 2 windows are just not justified. A second window open to drop off prepaids might not be the worst idea. Also it is an old Post Office with some great old woodwork, but could use a restoration. But at the end of the day, they are very accommodating, and they seem to do their best to be helpful. So Thank You to all the people who bring us our mail daily. Jay read more

Just read the one lady Rudy's review and was cracking up .. bc I was literally there the other day and the same exact thing happened to me. Although it wasn't some lady that said it but the man she's talking about in the beginning and he said the same thing!!!! ( I'm not a bank here!!! ) -when being handed a larger bill. It must be their catch fraise there! You can tell the guy he said it too felt very uncomfortable and awkward as he was quickly trying to find change in his wallet and dropping some coins frantically bc the employee was rushing him.. he was also very rude to me but I always try to kill people with kindness. read more

Hate this post office so much. There's no parking lot and like the other reviewer mentioned, finding parking anywhere near the post office is a nightmare and it's at a really busy intersection. There's always a really long line. I also hate the guy that drops off the packages. He's bald and has purple legs. He always drops off my packages in the street. We never notice them unless someone comes home and brings it in. My mother is worried because she thinks someone will think they can just take them since they're lying so far from the door. If you can't do your job, which is so simple and the packages aren't even heavy, then quit. It's been going on for over six months and we're sick of it. Please fire him already. I've been going to the Laurence Harbor post office since I live in the Morgan section of Sayreville and it's really close. They have a parking lot with plenty of parking every time. There's usually not a long line, and the man that's normally there when I come in is super nice and friendly. read more

The lady Stephanie who works here is so rude. She gave a customer a hard time in front of me because she had a $20 & she was complaining over & over again how she had no change & had gotten big bills all day. Then I asked her about a package and she continued on her rude tirade nasty rants.
