This is the big, crazy post office of this part of St. Louis County. It features very little free parking, some metered street parking, lots of lobby space for queueing up, and its main selling point: the best hours of any post office nearby. This is the post office that is open on Saturday well into the afternoon. For that it gets 5 stars. read more

Do not mail any packages here. Twice I have mailed packages here and they never were delivered. Sad day for us.

This post office is genuinely terrible. The last two times I've come, they've been closed early. Today, I showed up 15 minutes before scheduled close (which is 6:30 pm). The doors were shut, so I knocked, and the worker behind the desk told me they were closed. I asked if they changed their schedule--she replied that they haven't. I think she said they closed early because they don't have enough workers (it was hard to hear through the doors). Even when they are open, this place isn't great. The workers are friendly, but the guy who is usually behind the desk in the evening is for some reason incapable of scanning QR codes. On several occasions, I've had to wait for his coworker to either come back from break or get off the phone so she can scan my codes. Again, both the guy and his coworker are perfectly pleasant. But my experiences here have been frustrating. read more

I paid for overnight shipping $79.64 and it will not be there till Sunday the 14th and I shipped on Tuesday the 9th. Now they are currently saying I did not pay for overnight so what was the $79.64 for? granted, I did buy a box from them, which was seven dollars and some change but where did my $71.65 go. also, I offered to pick up the package and just receive a refund and take it out of town with me but now they're saying I cannot even pick up the box. The lady was super nice at the register, but I think she should have explained it better or offered me something else for the package to get their own time. read more

I'm going to disagree with most people's low reviews here. Listen I don't want to have to go inside of any post office anymore but if you have to, this one isn't terrible. This is probably where I got my first passport over 30 years ago and I'm usually in here a few times a year. Lines can be long but they get the job done. Also the mail drop off is smooth. read more

OMG. Could this place be any slower? it was a large facility but apparently not staffed well. I had 2 envelopes to weigh and get postage so I grabbed a number. 08 when they were on 99. So a few moments to wait... Right. Almost 20 minutes until a second counter person showed up and called out another number. Luckily it was mine. I figured there were 8 people in line when I got there and 1 counter person, now that there was 16+ people waiting another counter person stepped up. The staff I did interact with was pleasant enough but there was no sense of urgency to help all the customers during lunch rush. There were two unused self-help kiosks which I think I will learn how to use in the future. But if I have to interact with a USPS employee I will head back to my favorite (Valley Park, MO). read more

This post office is beyond bad. I ship out packages almost daily and set them up the evening before on line for pickup and I'm lucky if they get picked up. Today is another example of no pick up and no delivery. If and when I call most of the staff are extremely rude and argumentative. beyond bad. When we had a "regular carrier", she was amazing. If she had a day off this poor service occurred. We are in the no regular carrier phase now and this is just horrible and super frustrating read more

Fabulous service, efficient and capable, since I began coming here frequently several months ago.

I used to come to the Post Office all the time, as it's located down the street from my former office. And man, is it slow! This is one of the Post Offices where you absolutely need to take a number and prepare yourself for a 20-30 minute wait, even if there are only a few people in line ahead of you. This must be the hub for older folk in Clayton, because it never fails that there's a person who needs like, major assistance, in claiming a package, sending a package, ordering stamps or just the regular business that happens at the post office. And there's usually only one person working at a time. The other two are out to lunch or just lurking around, toying with the idea that they might open up another line. But they never do. The only reason that I give them two stars is because I got my passport here and the lady in charge of that line ROCKS! It took me less than 25 minutes to get a passport picture and the paperwork processed. It probably takes longer to order stamps in the other line. If you do stop here on your lunch break, be sure to bring a sandwich and juice box to keep you occupied, 'cause you're going to spend close to your entire allotted time waiting. read more

It's like Jerry Springer in here, the staff is always fighting. They have the "that's not my job attitude". It's sad enough to watch two employees go at it with a room full of people just trying to mail packages however, it's very unfortunate that after the verbal fight she (the employee) walked off and didn't return.... The manager (guy) was apologetic however people were in there over an hour and "the truck" was about to leave. If you hate your job, find your passion. read more

It's just like what my rating says: A-OK! The people who work here are less than exciting...but aren't they working for the government? I guess that means they don't need to provide me a smile and act nice to me when I am sending a package off with them. Whatever, I guess I can deal. It's no different than any other post-office I've been to. They don't want to be there just as much as I don't want to be there. I still can't decide on whether the folks that work here are intentionally, or unintentionally, slow. One time I came in with my package slip for my missed package and it took them a long time to retrieve it. I'm almost sure I could have wrote a novel during this wait time. I can't say it would be any good though. What's also annoying is that without fail there will be someone waiting in line, but still filling out their package paperwork. I don't think that's fair. Take a ticket when you're done with your package, not while you're fixing it up. Also, I don't know what the rules are on what type of tape you can use on your package, but I was ready get in a fight when the lady over the counter told me I couldn't mail something with duck tape on it. I spent at least 5 to 10 long minutes packaging whatever it was up with duck tape only to be told it wont go through. BOO! And of course they would never let you borrow any of their tape, so I had to go home sulky and repackage my package. Lame. Sometimes during the rush of the day there is hardly any parking available. And we all know that most people have no idea how to park, so that makes things even worse. Overall, this post-office does what I need it to do, but not very efficiently or nicely. A little smile now and then wouldn't hurt you! read more

Friendly, prompt, and satisfactory service. One of the nicer and more modern facilities in the metro area. Has two self serve machines, whereas all the other offices in the area have none. This post office is the most convenient to my house, but I really should drive down to the UCity one instead. The Clayton location always seems to have a line no matter what time or day you go. The workers don't seem in a hurry to get people through quickly. That said, I had a really good experience today. The woman helping me was watching out for my pocketbook and when I said I wanted to find out how much it would cost to send a small box via parcel post vs priority, should said the cost was the same and I should get priority service. Then I said I needed insurance and tracking, and she told me to save my money on the tracking since with over $200 insurance (I was getting $300), they would have to sign for the item and I could check on delivery status by the insurance number. I appreciate that she helped me figure out the best choices for the lowest money while still getting my items where I needed them as quickly as possible. They do have a 24/7 machine in the lobby that can do quite a bit too, and are open on Saturdays until 3. But all said, I've never had to wait at the UCity site. I should drive the extra 3 blocks and go there in the future. read more

I think people are too harsh when it comes to rating post offices. No one that I know of or even heard of has worked in a post office so when people judge their visit, you don't have a clue on what should be going on in a post office. Also expect a wait and always expect a customer that has dumb questions taking up a ridiculous amount of time. I also know that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to work here but when people talk about how slow the postal workers are or rude, etc, I doubt anyone has a clue to what postal workers have to go through day in and out. You go to the post office to mail something or buy stamps, not get your shoes shined so don't be so judgmental like this place should be a 5 star hotel. Take it for what it is, a bottle of the barrel grinding job that provides services for you. Most likely you won't even be returning to the same post office. dp read more

These people are friendly enough. The wait time at this post office is usually longer than average, especially during peak times. I use this post office to pick up packages that can't be left at my home without a signature. The service is average but be prepared to wait. read more

In my line of work, I send out lots of packages. I'll lead with that. Pros: They have three mail drops out front so, if your package or envelope is small enough, you can just drive by and drop it in. Easy peasy! I have mailed well over 1,000 packages this year and they rarely if ever lose things. So, that's another plus. They also have two package bins in the lobby, so if your packages are too large for the mail slots outside, you can drop them in there and get out of having to wait in line. When these are full, as they often are, you can drop them off at the end of the counter and leave, without having to interact with the line or employees. One time I waited in line for a million years with a package that was ready to go, just to be told to go put it on the end of the counter. So now, that's what I do. Cons: Oh, where to start. I guess I'll start with the crazy people. Not sure if it's all post offices or this one in particular, but beware the crazies. I have had FOUR unprovoked verbal altercations here, which has never happened to me anywhere else in St. Louis. One time I was parked next to a car and was trying to get my baby out of her car seat and then was trying to balance a package on my other hip. This lady cleared her throat loudly and rudely like I was inconveniencing her by taking too long getting my stuff out. My car was parked within the parking lines and I took less than a minute. I just looked at her like "whatever, lady" as I had my hands full, and walked inside. When I came back, she had spat on my car. Me, woman with a baby. Had my car spit on. One man approached my car when I had both children and tried to talk to me through the window. I wasn't interested in that at all and just shook my head at him and started to pull at. He then THREW HIS UMBRELLA AT MY CAR. After those incidents, I started parking right at the curb to run things in, and have had two people shake their heads at me disgustedly and make snide remarks. I have sent my oldest daughter in there to drop off packages, and people have been rude to her on two occasions. Be on alert for the crazies. I legit think this is their secret headquarters. Aside from that, the employees really are terrible and rude. USPS can be very confusing to the uninitiated. You better hope your stuff is done correctly and ready to go should you have the misfortune of having to wait in line, or they will make you do it all over while they help those behind you, effectively making you wait in line twice. They have no sympathy, no patience, and aren't helpful. The postal carriers are no better. They drive like crazy all over Clayton, often running their own stop sign out of the parking lot. Our postal carrier used to park his car behind my car in our driveway, blocking me in (until I complained because I was nine months pregnant and needed to be able to get out of my driveway at all times). This place really is where happy dreams go to die. Enjoy! read more

The Clayton Missouri post office consistently provides terrible customer service. The only reason i ever go here is because i have had a PO box here for 11 years. However, i am going to switch to the Creve Ceour branch. There you will clearly see the difference in service. At Clayton, you will find postal employees who are grumpy, unsmiling, laconic and unwilling to go out of their way for a customer (let alone provide minimum standards of service). They will make you feel like you are a burden to them just by being there, patronizing the USPS. The Clayton post office epitomizes what has gone wrong with old fashioned American pride and values: a group of employees who act as if they are privileged and it is their right to have their jobs and to under perform at them. Example #1: Almost always you will walk in and find a line that is 10 customers long (if not more). Meanwhile, there will be one (or two) employees at the service desk (which holds up to six), plodding away with dreary expressions, while other employees are walking behind them carrying on personal conversations. Wouldn't you think one of them would wake up out of their languid stupor, recognize that there are 10 people in line, go to the counter and start calling on customers? Yes, dear brothers and sisters, you would think so. Most Americans would agree. However, not in the dysfunctional mini-world that is the Clayton post office. Example #2: As i mentioned before, i have had a PO box there for 11 years. On multiple occasions, i will notice that i have mail missing. I will go to the desk and make an inquiry. Such inquiries are replied to with cool smugness. Then several months later, all the missing mail will suddenly appear in my box! This past December, i made just such an inquiry: this time the employee disappeared in the back room for 5 minutes. She returned with a box of my mail. There was mail that was postmarked from the previous July, August, September and October. No explanations. No apologies. Patronize the Clayton Mo branch at your own peril: and make sure you have plenty of time to waste... read more

Pretty pitiful service all the time. Long wait times, lots of attitude by the people working there, etc. If you have a package delivery that requires a signature, just go down to the post office to pick it up, as their delivery carriers will not make an effort to actually knock on your door or alert you to their presence. Do not attempt an online rescheduling of a package, as the delivery carrier will tell you to just go pick it up at the post office when you finally catch him. Absolutely abysmal service. They shouldn't offer services (signature requiring, I don't know, alert that they are at your house OR reschedule of delivery) if they are incapable of providing them. Pretty sketchy. read more

Worst post office I have ever been to. Workers here are not only lazy and know nothing, they are also incredibly rude, annoyingly sassy, and utterly disrespectful. Not even vaguely deserving of the one star I'm required to give them for a review. Customers and the branch would be better off firing everyone there and starting from scratch. It's an avoid at all costs place. read more

Watch out if you are trying to process a passport application. The woman who conducts this service apparently believes that she can cherry pick whom she would like to assist regardless of who arrived first and who is standing in the correct line. After I waited for over 10 minutes for another customer to complete an application, this woman actually called out another person in the lobby who was standing in the wrong line and had arrived after me, assuming that the other person only had questions. In fact, I was there only to ask questions, and the customer then proceeded to ask quite a lot of questions, taking up a considerable amount of my time. read more

This post office is terrible. They're consistently rude to people - in the office and when out for delivery - and they constantly say they're too busy to do anything. IT'S YOUR JOB. I always make an effort to be friendly and decent when I'm out and about (regardless of my mood). Frankly, it bothers me that most of the workers at this post office act like they are so irritated to be helping me/doing their jobs. I had a terrible experience at this USPS location. I walked in with a small gift box to mail. It was crowded so I took a number but the number was meaningless because associates were pulling customers out of order anyway. Finally an associate asked if I was paying with a credit card so I could be helped by her. I said yes and she told me I needed to package my gift before sending it. I had a very squirmy baby in my arms so I asked her which package she suggested. She asked if my gift was breakable and I told her it would only break if it was crushed. She told me a padded envelope marked with FRAGILE would be enough. She handed me an envelope and told me to fill it out. When I had filled it out and approached the next available associate I asked her to mark it fragile as discussed with the other associate. She told me that wouldn't matter so if it could break I should step out of line and repackage it. I expressed my annoyance at having asked the earlier associate and being given misinformation. She told me "oh she doesn't know what she's doing they never pay attention to fragile stamps." Why does she work here if she doesn't know what she's doing? I told her this was a waste of time and difficult for me to do with a baby. She told me her mother raised four kids alone and never complained and told me I should have used common sense when packing the gift. I asked for the envelope back and told her I would mail it elsewhere. She refused to give it back until I paid the $1.78 I owed for the envelope I was inappropriately given. I paid and let her know that this is why the postal service is going out of business. She told me again that people can't act without common sense and then blame it on the mail. I took my package to another store down the road, had my gift packaged for me by a pleasant person, and paid the same amount I would have paid at USPS. The customer service here feels oddly like harassment. I will never go back. 0 stars. read more

This post office has the angriest, laziest employees with the WORST work ethic I've ever seen. I stopped going there a couple years ago for postal needs because of this, and was obviously unnerved when I realized this post office is one of the only in the area to handle passports. I went in today, hoping for the best, but it ended up taking over an hour! Were there others in line, you ask? No, that's the problem! When I got to the window, a lady began taking care of me, only to announce two seconds later that it was time for her lunch break. She assured me that someone would take care of me. For 45 minutes, every person in the office pointed fingers at each other, claiming each would help me. When I finally spoke up and asked someone if she could help me, she screamed at me! I was finally helped, 50 minutes later, but only begrudgingly. I will NEVER step foot in that post office again, even if I have to drive 100 miles to another one! Don't go there if you can avoid it!!! read more

This is the worst post office I have ever used mostly due to slowness and one particular employee. "Ramona," and/or "Sandra" (she uses different name tags on different days, presumably to avoid being correctly labeled as a disastrous employee. She has to be the rudest customer service provider I have ever come into contact with. She snaps at customers, doesn't offer helpful information, and does that absolute bare minimum to get by. I dread getting her in line and sometimes pretend to be "not ready" so I can get someone else. Every time I go into the Clayton USPS I am dumbfounded by how rude and unpleasant she is. Most of the other employees I have dealt with are slow-moving, but at least they are pleasant in demeanor. Ramona / Sandra, whatever your name is - take a vacation and consider another line of work in which you don't need to deal with customers.
