As a former New Orleans City employee of many years I can review this at last from an objective position. Katrina was 20 years ago. The USPS office at Loyola has never recovered. This is the central post office in New Orleans and perhaps the most poorly managed in the city. It serves as a location that many tourists staying downtown are directed to, in order to send their New Orleans souvenirs home. It could be a New Orleans' promotionally welcoming experience instead of the glimpse of a major city in decline that it is. Entering, the first thing you will notice is the large, darkened, trash strewn and abandoned Sales and Services desk and kiosk area. This welcome alone is an indicator of the absence of managerial leadership among those here at the highest pay rates slumbering at their desks. Meanwhile, at the front service desk there are huge understaffing issues. With a bight few exceptions Staff is consistently slow moving, poorly trained, often ill tempered, and burdened with malfunctioning and poorly serviced printers and label equipment. Aside from being perpetually littered with debris and wasted postal supplies, the lobby seems unsafe because visible Security is often zero. Add to this the the proximity to the Bus and Train Station and it's pretty obvious security here is critically absent. This location is often frequented by the local homeless and forensic wanderers of New Orleans seeking warmth in the winter, AC in the summer, and possible handouts, or the possibility of finding forgotten packages or mail. Again zero security. Parking is fairly good, though I would have strong safety concerns regarding the Parking Lot at dusk.

With few exceptions, every time I go to a post office, I am made to feel like they (USPS) are doing me a huge favor by waiting on me. As I am greeted in the most unenthusiastic way, I think to myself, "I'm not here to borrow money people. I'm not asking for a kidney. I'm trying to pay for a service. So let's please drop the sour puss face". The nice thing about this location is I pass it up twice every day as I go to and from work. Therefore it is extremely convenient for me. Most of the time, I merely drop off mail in the outside mailbox. The nice thing about that is there are 2 drive-thru mailboxes to accommodate cars. There is ample parking in their lot. However, once you walk inside, the interior footprint is very small. I still cannot understand why they do not have a machine in which to purchase stamps. It's very irritating to have to stand in a line that is usually long and slow moving just to buy stamps. Heck, there are stamp machines that are the size of a large office copy machine. They need to look at their space and get one ASAP. Aside from the convenience factor, there is a great view of Bayou St. John, especially if you are there when the sun is rising or setting over the water. All in all, this is your typical post office run by your typical government workers. They get the job done, but don't expect anything stellar.

Rude, every time. If you have another option of post office…read morein the city, use it. This one ain't it.

There's an almost impressive level of dysfunction--like everyone collectively agreed to lower expectations and then just kept going.. They have got four or five people on staff; which sounds promising until you realize only one of them is ever actually working. The rest rotate between hanging out in the back, listening to music loudly enough to echo through the building, and pretending there isn't a line forming up front while staring into their phones. There are multiple desks, multiple offices--everything you'd need to run an efficient operation--except for the actual brain power to do it. If you have even the simplest question, forget the phone, they will not answer. You have to physically show up, stand in line, and wait for the lone employee while the rest of the staff treat the place like a break room with occasional customers interrupting their day. Packages are continuously marked for delivered by drivers too lazy to finish the route for the day. Those packages are then prone to getting lost because they become untraceable once marked this way. On the plus side, if your career goals include doing the absolute minimum while actively avoiding helping people, this might be your dream workplace. It's the perfect environment for anyone committed to mediocrity, where initiative is optional and accountability appears to be completely nonexistent. If you aim to disappoint at scale, you'll fit right in here. TRACY WILCOX IS THE MANAGER OF THIS USPS LOCATION. PLEASE RESIGN AND STOP STEALING OUR MONEY THROUGH NEGLIGENCE AND LAZINESS. WE THE PEOPLE PAY YOUR SALARY. I AM FORMALLY REQUESTING THAT THE USPS OFFICE OF INSPECTOR GENERAL INVESTIGATE THIS LOCATION AND TRACY WILCOX DIRECTLY!

I acquired my U.S. Passport at this location, which was more convenient than going downtown. Cons-they never have the "fun" stamps (Marvin Gaye, Mister Rodgers, John Lennon, Christmas), the service tends to be a bit gruff, the building itself, materials-pads, mats, railings, glass doors, tile work is all in DISREPAIR. I can imagine how excited I would be coming to work in a dump like that everyday. No wonder the clerks are grumpy! So next time you swing by, remember what my momma said, "Don't expect anything and you'll never be disappointed."
