We live off Bitney Springs rd about 5 minutes from the post office in town. The "snow storm" doesn't usually affect us here as we are at 2000ft above sea level. I understand if they have people calling in sick, staffing issues etc. It's been a week since "the storm " that the post office said closed their deliveries. Still no mail. Trying to do your taxes without the relevant information is challenging. Many people I know are avoiding Nevada City now for "other" reasons including "the "crazies" that seem to frequent the town but the post office? The delivery of the USPS in Nevada City, Ca. has to be the worst in the nation. This is the 4th package I've sent regular mail that never got delivered. Then I wasted a lot of money sending valuable gifts PRIORITY MAIL and the recipients didn't receive those either. And even though the PO says that your package is insured for $100 or more. You will never receive it. They never answer the phone they never respond to your requests, it's impossible. It's the most frustrating company ever to exist in the United States. Everything could improve!!! My package was ordered on 10/4 it is 10/14 shipped the next day. It has been sitting in the next state over since 10/10 and still hasn't gotten to my town. I literally could have driven to Colorado and back in six hours and p/u myself. Not to mention the original expected delivery has changed. Now it doesn't even show an expected delivery date anymore in there joke of a tracking system. Just so disgusted with the whole process. I ordered lumber through Amazon. Yes, there are lumber yards around, but they don't cut your wood and I don't have a miter saw. These boards were exactly the size I needed. So you know the boards were 4 feet in length, and bundled so that there were 4 parcels weighing 15 pounds at most. So yeah, a hassle for the mail carrier but could definitely fit into their vehicles. Checked on my order through amazon and learned that the lumber "couldn't be delivered (no notification from the USPS). Not a problem, I was happy to go pick them up. When I give the clerk (I wish I had gotten her name now) my address, she goes into the back room and then shouts back at me "is this your stupid lumber?" and then proceeds to complain how long it will take to get them out and that she's seen a lot of things come through the office but this really 'takes the cake'. Her tone made it clear that I and my parcels were an imposition and not welcome. I offered to do the lifting and go get them so she wouldn't have to but policy prohibits customers behind the counter. Look, I get that Amazon purchases are making things more difficult for the USPS in a lot of ways, and I get that their job functions may be uncomfortably evolving, and I get that we're in the middle of a pandemic just after holiday season and maybe she's exhausted and overworked. But do not treat me like trash. I am not your child to scold. Most of us have things about our jobs we'd rather not do. Talk to you manager. Perhaps the Post Office could limit whom they ship for or limit how large/heavy items they are willing to handle. Until such time, taking your bad attitude out on me is unacceptable. read more

They never ever answer their phone. I have tried constantly for hours to contact them and it seems the only way I will be able to get answers is to drive 25 minutes and wait in a long line. This is ridiculous when has our mail system become worse than some of the backward European countries. We should be ashamed. The Nevada City Postal service is completely unacceptable. I've caught them in so many lies regarding my packages. They will say the mailbox was full; have photographic proof it was not. I've waited and waited for packages that never arrived, but would get a message from Amazon that "delivery service attempted"...lies. They constantly fail to deliver packages and their management fails to do anything about it. They need some customer service training and to be held accountable. I wish Amazon would drop them as a delivery service and let's see how well they do. Last week I paid $22 to have a fragile piece of art shipped via two day. Well it didn't arrive on time so I began trying to track it. After a series of odd messages in return over the weekend that were all misleading. So on Monday I went to the local PO on Oak tree. Well all I got was attitude and was told to go to the main PO 25 miles away. Which I did. Again attitude. I actually had to demand that the blind woman with the face shield held my package in her hands until she felt she had given me enough of her attitude. I had to demand she turn over my package as I was in the verge of calling the police. Terrible service. She said none of the digital info I got for tracking meant nothing and to NOT pay attention. The carrier left a package outside an unlocked gate and fifteen easy steps to the covered front porch. It was raining. I didn't know it was delivered until the next day. The box was soaked and full of street dirt. Yesterday, there was no delivery or pick-up of the mail to go out. This scenario has been going on for several months. Absolutely by far the worst USPS that has served me. The delivery drivers are lazy, at least the Banner Lava Cap lady!! She will not get out of her golf cart and walk 50 feet to put a package on my front deck, she says its undeliverable instead. I go and make a complaint at the office and they tell me she has 30 years of experience, there must be a reason she couldnt deliver it. I show them pictures of my paved driveway(that I pull a 40' camper into), and they just say well she is really busy. So you pay for a service and dont get it. A cook with 30 years experience doesnt make you go to the kitchen at an restaurant to cook your own food. Pist master is useless, there has been many many complaints from many people, and nothing has changed. read more

Poor mail delivery. Frequent notices for undelivered mail stating : "Delivery attempted - Front door / Driveway was not accessible. " My very large mailbox sits right on the road, clearly marked & ready for packages & other mail to be dropped into by just reaching out an arm. My driveway - as always - is completely clear, as is the front door. This happens frequently since our current mail carrier was hired. He is obviously overwhelmed but this is ongoing in the neighborhood/community and this has been reported by many. The alternate carrier is reliable. Something needs to change! Since my packages are so frequently not delivered, I have had many recent occasions to visit the Nevada City Post Office to retrieve the packages that should have been delivered. Well, they have lost two with no explanation as to where they have gone (one of them was scanned in that it was delivered, and then that it was back on truck, then back at the facility . . . yet, no package materialized), and I received three FINAL notices that packages would be returned if not picked up for packages that I never received any notification about; then, upon attempting to pick them up, only one could be located and they assured me that I must have picked the others up (yet I had not been at the post office in over two weeks . . . whereas the notice was dated just two days prior to my attempt at pick up). They insisted that the tracking on their system had not been updated, so they could not tell me concretely where they were at all. Each unfortunate time I have had to go to the post office in person, it is an uncomfortable experience as most of the employees do not wear their masks above their noses and one wears a face shield and not a mask at all. One employee is constantly complaining about being overworked and how annoyed she is at customers and even went as far as to say that she wishes "these people" would just stop sending packages because it is just "too much, way too much." She has been rude and argumentative with customers each and every time I have visited the establishment, which is very sad to see since she has selected to be employed in a customer service position. If I could, I would completely avoid visiting this location, ever. Unfortunately, I have lost all faith in their handling of my mail. Absolutely the worst USPS branch that I've ever dealt with! Constantly have issues with them not delivering packages to my house. They state the house is "undeliverable" sometimes. How can my house be "undeliverable" some days and not others?! Comes down to lazy drivers who just don't care. Some of the drivers have stuffed packages inside of the mailbox, causing damage to the item. A few times it was almost impossible to get the package out because it was crammed in there so tight. Other residents in my area are experiencing the same type of issues. There was even a meeting with the Postmaster and some residents about how horrible their service is. read more

USPS tracking said my package was delivered to a "parcel locker." I don't have a parcel locker. Went to NC Post Office. Their GPS record showed it was delivered to the post office. Told me they'd look into it and a supervisor would call. No call. Another trip, another assurance of a call. No call. Wrote letter to postmaster along with tracking data. No call. People in PO without masks. Clerks not properly masked. Workers in back not masked. They call it a postal "service." What a joke. Luckily, it was an inexpensive item. So I re-ordered. It sucks that this is a government establishment because the Nevada City office would be long closed otherwise. This post office legit seems to have it OUT for my family. We have someone disabled living at the address and we have on MULTIPLE occasions emphasized this in our mail/package delivery notes. They can't easily get out into town to go retrieve "lost mail". The address is on a state road. With a paved driveway that, albeit, is not flat. But it is NOT by any stretch of the imagination hard to get up and it has a place to turn around. But STILL! Every. Single. Time....that the NC post office is charged with delivering a package....big or small...rain or shine...spring or fall...ANYTHING that is not able to be put in our mailboxes down by the grouping on the street it is "attempted to deliver". Even with 5 people at the house for the whole day they can't make it happen. I'm not kidding. One time. When we called and asked wtf was going on with a delivery that was "failed" 4 times in a row they said "oh. There was neighbors dog that was in the driveway." Our neighbors dog at the time was a chihuahua.....and it was on a leash....in their driveway. I pay premium shipping to get things delivered fast for my job and the amount of times I've been screwed by this postal non-service is not a small number. Considering you're on government pay, one would think you could actually muster the effort to do your job. YOU ONLY HAVE ONE JOB. read more

The driveway was clear. There was no known reason for a parcel not to be delivered on 12-23-20. First issue in three years. I can only imagine it is because of the lack of effort by additional staff for the holiday rush? Sent an email to the post master of the Nevada City office, to request the parcel be delivered. I am new to Nevada City and in a town that is one of the gems of California in almost every way -- architectural beauty, natural beauty, politeness, quality of services and sense of community -- I would expect the post office to be a reflection of this excellence. Long before I read these reviews, I sensed something was wrong. Missing packages that showed up a month later, after a counter person told me it had been "picked up" by "someone who must have had an ID" (and I could tell she was making it up, she was tentative and nervous), to a mailbox I couldn't open for a month, paid $50 to fix despite the "breakage" being a rusted key slot and during which time I had "no mail" (virtually impossible) and now I am missing notices, legal and financial documents, and I was willing to pick up my mail at the office as long as it was consistent and reliable as they dealt with their "overload of mailbox repairs" but am still batting zero for the month-- how does a culture like this develop in a town of gracious, caring people who handle power outages with grace and generosity among other signs of caring and integrity? It has to come from the top. I will write the superintendent or whatever title their leader holds. The mail is sacred! They can't trash a great American institution! read more

I received a Christmas package at some time Christmas Eve. I don't know exactly when, because the tracking is not available. The package was left by my gate, which was open, and can't be seen from the house. I found the package the day after Christmas soaked through because it was not brought up to the house and not put into a plastic bag. My gate has been opened all week and UPS made numerous deliveries all to my porch. The Post Office never goes the extra 100 yards to my porch, and now a package with 2 books inside is ruined. read more

Ok - first, our ROUTINE Mail delivery person(woman) is really fabulous. The best! However, when it's a weekend delivery or prior to a holiday - absolutely TERRIBLE. Whoever delivers mail just decides' he doesn't want to drive up our paved driveway to drop a small package and then lists something...like "mailbox full" on the yellow slip. Nope, mailbox wasn't full. Nothing in mailbox. But, now we have to drive to post office for pickup. Sixth time in three months. I asked the staff at post office what was going on and the gentleman said 'they make a call, if it's risky they don't deliver'. Nope, the guy is just plain lazy. We have lived here for 21 years and the last 3 months the non-routine mail delivery has been horrible. Check your staff. You have hIred a SLACKER on your payroll! They had issues delivering a package two days ago and haven't attempted to deliver it since. Calling USPS leads you to a machine that does not want to send you to an operator and wastes time asking irrelevant questions. Then after 6 min of telling the machine that I want to speak to an operator. It says there is a 39-59 min hold time. Sent a package for a birthday. Updates showed it out for delivery the day before the birthday, but was never delivered. The recipients were home all day long but the carrier couldn't be bothered to actually deliver the package. Because the box wouldn't fit in the mailbox the carrier couldn't even bother to walk to the house and deliver it. So the present did not make it for the birthday. Screw you Nevada City post office. My hiking boots that I ordered through EBay showed delivered but they were not in my mailbox. The next day I called the Post Office and spoke with Michael who was very helpful and texted our Mail Carrier for a status report. Terrible customer service. Posting incorrect update information on tracking site seems to be OK. They had no problem with my driving 10 miles into Nevada City to pick up a package which their tracking site said was being held at the post office and then being told it was out on the route for delivery. It was suggested that maybe I could drive the route and catch the mail lady to ask if I could have the package. It has been 4 days, soon to be 5, and I still don't know where the package is. Now I will grant it is the holiday season and a very busy time of year, but please just put the correct information on your tracking site. I'll be happy to come get the package myself if you will just tell me where it is. read more

I had the absolute worst experience here. To start of I had an item that I needed by wednesday but I found out that it wouldn't arrive until thursday. The package was going to ups and then going to usps to be delivered. I called ups and asked if they could hold if for me. I then went there and they told me there was a chance that the usps postal office may still have it. So I drove the the office and went in the all my information. I went up to the desk and asked the woman if they had the package. She then sighed and said let me see if we do. I heard her in the back say "This girl wants to get her package *scoff". Yes she scoffed. She came back and said it was with a carrier. I asked her if I could some how get it from the carrier and she said "I don't think so" walked in the back and said "can she get if from a carrier" and the other person in the back said no. She came back and said "Ma'am there is no way you can get your package today. Sorry" Then just walked away and I heard her complaining about me in the back. There was barely any effort to help me and quite frankly she was very rude. I spent hours on the phone with costumer service and hours driving around to get no where and to be disrespected. Next time I will just avoid shopping online or just exclusively use UPS or Fedex. read more

I used to work at the post office as a carrier and a clerk. We have regulations we have to follow. If you would use Delivery confirmation with a signature request you would be able to have it delivered direct to you . USPS receives damaged boxes and we still have to deliver them in the condition we received them. They do have insurance that you can purchase when mailing. Most people try to save money and ship ground. Ground should never be used for fragile items, but customers want it anyway. I'm not saying the USPS is always right, I'm saying take responsibility in the way you ship. Tell your carrier not to deliver unless you're there. Ask the clerk for the reason he or she can't accomodate what your asking of them. Before a parcel gets to the post office it's been packed, sealed and shipped by someone other than the carrier or clerk. Just sayin. read more

Wish I could I CHOOSE NO STARS! THIS POST OFFICE left a soaking wet, falling apart cardboard box in my mailbox with obviously broken glass in it. When I called the Postmaster he assured me this was appropriate and not their problem. When I stated I did not think this was legal to even place this in my mailbox (especially in these days of terrorist and who knows what other activities) he continued to state no one should have a worry about such a thing because it was "mailed by Amazon" (so no one could have tampered with an open leaking box?). They obviously damaged the item, they stuck it in my mailbox, allowing liquid to leak through on my mail and that's peachy keen with them. read more
