This place never ceases to fail me. Years ago, I went in looking for a text to speech GPS and went…read morein looking for some guidance and product explanation. Which Garmin or TomTom had that feature? Which offered other country/city maps as additional features--free or for a price? The gentleman who was 'helping' is still working there, but he was barely working, then. His customer service assistance? "Call TomTom and Garmin and ask them." So, I went to Target in Keene where all of my questions were asked and answered and Target made a $400 sale. Last autumn, I ran in to Staples, again. I don't know why I persisted in my idealism. I needed a teensy PC laptop for some work which performs only on Internet exploiter--imagine the horror--but I needed a small and portable machine. The same 'gentleman' offered to assist and--again--offered me no answers to any questions but for the fact that this machine did support ie. No offer for initial setup or information about quirks not even an offer of the dreaded 'insurance fee' wherein places like Staples and Best Buy charge you Estes up front to get repairs and assistance for which you will still ultimately be charged on the backend. They are the only 'game' in Brattleboro, but I should always opt to drive to Target in Keene. Unfortunately, I didn't. I popped in yesterday with two quick questions about my machine. The tech 'support' guy was amenable to my questions and said he'd be right back with s price quote. I was incensed! I told him I would not be paying for such a petty thing and I left. But I turned around and went back in to complain to a manager! His response? " Of course we charge. Would you expect the car dealer to give you free oil changes?" As if Staples offered anything akin to the worth and value of a vehicle. He nastily checked at least my keyboard functionality but was pretty condescending--and sloppy--throughout. I understand this is a chain and there are corporate policies in place. But I also understand Brattleboro is a smallish community and these morons make no adjustment for that. I also know that I've had cashiers at other Staples who couldn't--actually could NOT--make change without the computer/cash register doing the math for them. And I mean $20 minus $2... So, thanks Staples on Putney Road. Thanks for maintaining an employee and Sercixe standard way below the median! Here's to never giving you another red cent!
