I used to be depressed. Wallowing in the depths of a dark well of human misery. And then I got HIGH! And I didn't have to break any federal laws to do it. Because I experienced touching the sky with a hang glider. There is no greater thrill than to be in the air next to the clouds without the annoying barrier of aircraft plexiglass. If you've ever contemplated suicide, you should try hang gliding first! I mean, what else is there to lose when you're really down and out...? Besides... YOLO. This extreme sport is really meant for those people who want to be able to say to themselves before they croak of old age that they have really experienced life to the fullest. I always believed that you feel most alive the closer you are to death. But kidding aside, hang glide instructor Bryon Estes and tug pilot Bill Estes has made this unusual sport a safe recreational activity that I get to do almost every weekend. Bryon and Bill take people up to 3000 ft in the air on a tandem glider. After I got a taste of heaven (literally, not in the religious figurative sense, since St. Peter is probably going to deny me entrance), I decided that I need to stay up there for as long and as frequent as possible. Fortunately, Bryon is a great hang glide instructor, and under his tutelage I was able to live the dream of flying my own hang glider. I would like to start out by saying that Byron (instructor) and Bill (Tow Pilot) are two of the more awesome individuals you will meet. They are a pleasure to work with and even more fun to fly with. I can say they are very professional and extremely safety conscience. I am protective of my love ones but have no problem with my lady taking a flight with Bryon. US Hang Gliding earned their sticker on my back window of the truck. What a great crew to get me into the air to experience the flight of the summer in 2019! The pre take off briefing by Bill and Bryon was thorough and clear. The tow was predictable and uneventful. My flight over Middletown gave spectacular views of the surrounding area. I did my very first tandem flight with Bryon and it was awesome. You couldn't be in better hands, when you are new to the sport. Bryon is very calm and professional and I felt super safe with him. He explained how the glider works and what to look out for during our flight and he even let me do some turns, when we were up in the air.
