I left Fantasy Balloons a voicemail on a Monday morning around 9 am and Lana returned my call by 12:30 the same day. She was very friendly and detailed on what I could expect. I was doing this as a surprise for my wife on our 3rd year anniversary. Lana even gave me some good suggestions on how I could throw my wife off and convince her to wake up at 4 am. Lana called me again the night before our flight to confirm all the details with me and ensure we were good to. Our flight over the Hudson Valley was great and made us feel calm and relaxed. I was able to take some great pictures of the deer prancing through the open fields as we flew over them. Ken, our pilot and Lana's husband, was great and very professional as he piloted our hot air balloon. He even gave us a tour and described some of the landscape around us. As we floated in the sky we could see Lana in hot pursuit of our balloon never missing a turn to keep up with us so she could meet us wherever we landed. When we returned to the hangar Lana had a champagne toast and crackers ready for us along with our flight certificate. We were also able to speak with some of the crew who were all friendly folks. I surprised my boyfriend with a hot air balloon ride for his birthday today and I must say WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! This was our first time and we didn't know what to expect but we were in good hands with Lana and her amazing crew. Arrival time was 5:30am (hard to do when commuting from Brooklyn but its worth it!) for the sunrise flight. The flight itself is about half hour, we were a little scared but we had the option of sitting which helped my boyfriend relax. We glided above the trees and I had the chance to grab a leaf! Take off and landing could not have been smoother, Lana is very detailed and guided us on where to hold on, how to stand etc. I loved how lively, personable and experienced (31 years) she is! AND a big shout out to her team! They made us feel very safe, chasing the balloon on the ground to be sure they would be there for our landing. Highly recommended! Well I don't even know where to start... We were trying to get aboard for about two months and we kept getting cancelled on due to weather... After rescheduling for a workday Tuesday I got food poisoning day befor and was told I had to show up or would lose money (we were group of 5, celebrating my daughters graduation, was told I could stay behind???) hmmm ok we show up ( me still feeling like crap) on an over loaded balloon and between the weight and weather total air flight time was about 15 minutes??? We went over quick check oooo WOW and some trees... Not worth getting up at three in morning and spending all that money for the five of us we will go again with a different company ... What an experience! I been dying to do this since May/June. I called Fantasy Ballon and other places and by far they had the cheapest rates. Lana was great,informative, helpful, and sweet. We were playing phone tag for a while, but she definitely calls back asap. After three months of planning I finally got to go on these wonderful ballons! It was gorgeous. My wife and I went on our first ever hot air balloon flight with Fantasy Balloon Flights. We arrived on a beautiful morning just before dawn and met Ken and Lana Smith. They arrived before us and the balloons were laid out on the ground ready to inflate. They instructed us on everything that was going to happen and went through each step of the process with us. It was amazing watching the balloons inflate right before our eyes with the hot air from the flames! The balloons were very colorful. Then it was time to get into the basket. We were a little nervous but they helped us on and before we knew it, we had lift off!! At this point the sun was just coming out and the sky was beautiful. It was AMAZING just floating through the sky above the trees! The entire ride was gentle and once we were up we were not nervous any more. Ken took some pictures of us in the balloon which he emailed to us for a keepsake. Then, of course, came the landing! We floated down a little at a time and landed gently on the ground. The entire ride was flawless! After we got out and headed back to the starting point, they had some snacks and juice for us to complete the experience. Once we got up in the air, the balloon ride was just plain amazing ! You end up going about a half mile up. I thought there might be some sensation of fear of heights - but none - just felt like we were floating on air. "Ken" was the pilot of our balloon - he's been doing this for more than 35 years and clearly was an expert on flying balloons. He also lived his whole life in the area so he knew every object and place we were flying over. Lana was the pilot for the other balloon that day. Would highly recommend Fantasy Balloon flights for a hot-air balloon ride. This was a memorable experience for us, and it was great working with a husband and wife team that made us feel safe with all their experience and were so nice to work with to set up the reservation by phone. I gave my boyfriend a hot air balloon ride for his birthday, and was in touch with Lana several times to work out the details. She was very sweet and informative and gave me the sense right away that I'd picked the right company to go with. Although I wasn't initially planning on taking a flight myself, Lana and my boyfriend convinced me to go, and boy, am I glad I did! What a great experience! Even though I normally get motion sickness on boats, riding in the back of the car and on amusement park rides, Lana assured me that wouldn't happen. And she was right! There's no sense of movement since you move with the air currents, and it's so peaceful and serene to be gliding over the countryside in the early morning hours as the sun rises. It was a beautiful experience that I'm glad I didn't miss! Ken was a great pilot and guide and both Lana and Ken are a lovely couple, very experienced and knowledgeable, and they will take very good care of you every step of the way. They put safety first and will do everything they can to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable ride. It's an early start (we had to be at the airport by 4:45 a.m.), and you have to be flexible because they fly only on weekends and it's entirely weather dependent, so you don't know for certain whether you'll be going up until the night before, but it's such a fantastic experience, it's well worth the minor inconveniences.
