There are some extremely good buys and some so-so good buys. You have to know your prices. The owners and staff are always welcoming and friendly. I've chatted with pretty much everyone while Im in the store. TIP 1:The items will not always be in stock. Items come and go and never come back, so if you see something you like, just get it, as it may not be there on your next visit. TIP 2: While Grocery Outlet stores and similar types of stores have an unfair reputation for selling close to expiring items, this is always true. Sure, you can check the dates, but you're not going to find any expired or frozen just before their best-by date. TIP 3: If you are vegetarian, vegan, and/or gluten-free, you'll find some of your favorite things at a steal of a price. I've found vegan cheese, vegan salad dressings, and Beyond products at a 75% discount compared to the big guys. We're thankful to have the Grocery Outlet in our neighborhood and appreciate the team for making it all happen.

The website said they had them. The gentleman that helped me was very nice, and asked what I needed, then took me to the aisle where their drain cleaning products were. It seemed well stocked and we did find what we were looking for, a couple of large wicker rectangular containers that we will use to store our patio furniture cushion. There really is no one to consult if you have questions. There was a long line of people waiting at the register, but only two registers open. I don't understand this from a customer satisfaction stand point. Are they understaffed? Our cashier was nice enough, and the older man that I assume was the manager was also nice, though they tried to convince us to get their credit card, given the 5-10% discounts offered with each use. I get that it might work for some people, but we weren't interested, and, to their credit, there was no pressure. My recommendation would be to have more people at the registers when it is busy, and perhaps some people on the floor offering assistance, though I get that this might not be their business model.

Boise Bodega is right next to my hotel which was the Sparrow, and the Sparrow Hotel was immaculate…read more like weirdly clean. so that already set the tone for the day. walked into the bodega and immediately noticed everything was laid out very intentionally. not in a fancy way, just in a way that made sense. cheaper stuff first, then normal priced stuff, then the more expensive stuff. i liked that because it let me mentally commit to how much money i was about to spend before i actually spent it. felt respectful. the guy running the place had immaculate vibes. calm. friendly. not doing too much. he was wearing a UCLA sweatshirt which caught my eye because i've got family members who go there. i asked him if he went to UCLA. he said no, but he's reppin it for me. that made me laugh and honestly set the mood for the rest of the visit. whole place felt super chill. no rush. no weird energy. just a solid neighborhood spot that knows exactly what it is. grabbed what i needed and left in a better mood than when i walked in, which is not something i can say about most convenience stores. liked it enough that when i got back home i actually told people about this place, which i almost never do. usually i forget places the second i leave them. would go back. good store. good guy. good system.

Although Lark & Larder is within close walking distance of my home, I am embarrassed to share that I visited for the first time on 7/24/21. It is no exaggeration to say it was life-changing. I love the the Boise Farmer's Market (BFM) which reopened their "walk-through" at the end of May. It is open on Saturdays from 9 AM to 1 PM. The summer before last, I visited the market fairly regularly, but this summer I haven't gone once. Imagine my surprise when I learned Lark & Larder carries items from many of my favorite BFM vendors. I was elated! Lark & Larder's vendors include: Acme Bread City Peanut Kelley Orchards Fiddlers Green Farm Purple Sage Farm Ohana No-Till Farm Ferranti Fresh Pasta Brush Creek Creamery Kimberly's Best Ballard Family Cheese Mountain Valley Farmstead McIntyre Pastures Irish Dexter Grass Fed Beef Malheur River Meats Fairweather Fish Morning Star Acre The Chocolat Bar MFT Sauces Zursun Idaho Heirloom Beans Peaceful Belly/Stack Rock Cidery I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures of the two pints of Fiddlers Green Cherry and Sungold Tomatoes I bought ($4.50 each). The cherry tomatoes were the best I've eaten in years. I loved the Sungold too, though they had a much more subtle flavor. I bought snack sized bags of Roots Potato Chips, a "farm to fork" product from a small, family farm in Aberdeen, Idaho. I got one of each of the three flavors available: Idaho Russet Sea Salt, Mild Jalapeño, and Sea Salt & Vinegar ($1.29 each). All three flavors were excellent! Now I'm on the hunt for the Barbecue flavor. I bought Kelley Orchards "The Ultimate Mix" ($20), a 20 ounce bag of dried fruit that includes Pears, Pluots, Plums, White Peaches, Yellow Peaches, Fuji and Granny Smith Apples. I've bought different varieties of their dried apple rings before, but this is the first time that I've purchased "The Ultimate Mix." I love that it has no additives and no preservatives. Delicious! Olympia Provisions is an Artisan Charcuterie business out of Portland, Oregon. Their products are hard to find in Idaho. Lark & Larder carries a nice variety of them. I scored their last packet of OP Uncured Pork Frankfurters ($10.99). If you order them directly from the company, you'll pay $15, not including shipping. I noticed that on a number of other items, Lark & Larder charges considerably less than you would pay if buying directly from the vendors' website. For example, one of the Ballard cheeses I liked up was $4 less a pound. I don't know how they manage to offer those kinds of prices, but it is all the more reason to shop there.
