Standard Restaurant Supply is the absolute go to for the hard to find kitchenware. Really big store full of everything from plates to cleaning supplies. They also have A pretty robust website, just in case. Food prep, food service, food Storage solutions. Not everything will be the best price or the best product for you. I never buy everything in the same place anyway. This is just another great option. Don't know what else to tell you. If you spend any time in the kitchen you may want to just take a walk through. I just became aware of standard restaurant supply's "email club" that I now plan to take advantage of. They claim they will let you know about sales and other specials they periodically sponsor. I stopped by today with one of my daughters who needed supplies to try a Little do it yourself project in the kitchen. I love that. it makes me so proud. While there I couldn't help but add to my sauce pan quiver with a little 1.5 quart number. I am in the kitchen so often I go through these things like candy. Member of the general population here - this place is fantastic for hard to find, large, small, and industrial quality equipment. They've got high quality knives, whisks of every size, hard to find metal restaurant style spatulas, every size of ramekin, sheet pans, cake collars, pizza peels, stock pots, squeeze bottles, industrial mixers, ranges, packaging, etc. I was able to find what I was looking for, and several other impossible finds for surprisingly good prices. This store doesn't have every single gimmicky gadget that a home kitchen store might, but it's got the things you really need, and for much less than the kitchen section in Bed, Bath, and Beyond type stores. I've been coming to SRS for over 10 years. It's super convenient as it is located on Fairview. Can anyone go and shop ? The answer is Yes. You don't have to be a Chef at The Cheesecake Factory or looking to open your own Taqueria or perhaps your own Vegan joint. Kitchen supplies galore! They have everything from ladles and whisks to theater-style popcorn makers, slushie machines, garnishing tools, you name it. Best of all, most of their items are astoundingly cheap! This place is a must-visit for anyone who ever cooks their own food or hosts large parties. Or, you know, if you just so happen to need a wok the size of your entire kitchen sink, and maybe an industrial sink to wash it in. Hmm.. how to start this? First of all, let me declare the obvious - I am not, nor ever have been, in the restaurant business. I was looking for a couple of old style metal shakers for my bbq rubs and was not having much luck (Bed, Bath and Beyond has some, but they are all shiny and pretty and over priced) and my research (?) turned up Standard Restaurant Supply on Fairview Ave. near Cole Rd. Since I happened to be at The Home Depot on Milwaukee, I decided to drive by Standard. It was quite comforting to see this huge sign that announced they were open to the public. So, being a member of the general populous, I ventured in. Wow! Talk about sensory overload (well, maybe not all the senses, mainly just that of sight) - everywhere I looked there was something of great interest. The place is huge, very commercial and laid out like a supply store should be - nothing fancy, just products. Well, before I even found the shakers. Which by the way were exactly what I was looking for, I found the perfect boning knife, four new wine glasses and a new beer glass. I know my purchase was not exactly over the top (only came to around $40) but the amount of restraint that it took to keep from buying more was somewhat extraordinary! There might be better supply stores around, but in my book this is the best one in my area! They are friendly and let me wander aimlessly through the entire store - probably a devious plot on their part to get me to buy more product - lol - and didn't make me feel like an interloper when I checked out. They close at 5PM on Saturday so you can get that last minute set if ramekins for your dinner party. It's fun to walk the aisles and fantasize about having every size if Cambro and hotel pan. I've always loved Standard, and as a home-baker, it's my go-to when I need something for an order. The staff has always been friendly, the store is easy to navigate, and there is so much to choose from! Up until today I've never had an issue, but while I was on the hunt for something, an employee argued with me about something unimportant. As someone who works in customer service (and has for a long time), I've never been a fan over the idea that "the customer is always right," but I was very put off about her being so adamant about a minuscule little detail that she felt the need to argue with me about it. I will continue to shop here, as Boise doesn't have much of a variety on stores like this, but I hope to not have to deal with this employee again. They have just about everything you'd need to start a restaurant business except a building, a loan, or a commercial garbage disposal (I checked; they don't carry those). Almost everything is open stock, meaning you can buy 1 of something- like say a dish or glass. Flatware if I'm not mistaken is the only thing you must buy in a bulk of at least 12 (12 forks,12 spoons,etc.) They do have bulk prices too. I've ordered dishes for my church and got a fantastic deal: the only problems I had were that it took 6 weeks when I was told 3 weeks. (Dishes I ordered needed to come from their Utah location because of the # ordered) Could be a fluke- I've not needed to make a large order like that again. Also I ordered 100 and recieved 99...yes I counted since I ran them all through the dishwasher prior to storage. I didnt complain, figured I got a great deal and be thankful I wasn't missing more. If those two things weren't issues, it would've been 5 stars. Employees are helpful and cheerful, but extremely busy. I'm a patient person when I see people working; but you can't be in a hurry when you shop here since its been my experience to wait awhile before getting helped.
