My only real knock on Urology SA is the phone system. You sometimes have to wait 20-30 minutes to talk to a person. That phone system knocks a star off. The office people at the Topperwein location are very friendly and helpful as are the nurses. I didn't like the way the lady in the front confronted my stepdad about his bill from the hospital. He owned a $800 bill for surgery. If he didn't pay it would go to collections. First of all she is talking in front of all this people. This should be confidential. I told her he just got out of the hospital and he hasn't gotten the bill. So it shouldn't go to collections, he always pays his bills. Anther gentlemen jump in. She is just letting you know. I told him and I am aware what she is saying. Am not stupid. She doesn't have to be saying all this here in front of people. You need to stop here. I think it was unprofessional and this respectful. Tell all your business in front of people. The front desk was great. I've been there before to visit Dr. Favazza, he was amazing. I went to the Stone Oak location to get a second opinion. They confirmed what Dr. Favazza already confirmed and said I had a tumor. At the other location, I was speaking with Dr. White. He had mentioned I'm gonna require surgery. It takes about six weeks to recover. He asked me what line of work I did. I told him I'm an order selector. He said with that type of job you're gonna need a full six weeks off post surgery to prevent injury. I just had my follow up appointment today with nurse practitioner Brandon Christensen. He told me I had a type of cancer he told me what type of cancer I had, but he didn't go into detail as to what is fully required outside of an MRI and a follow up. He asked me what line of work I did. I told him warehouse. I'm an order selector. I asked him if I could take the six weeks after to ensure a proper recovery before I go back to the heavy lifting that I do at that job. He said I can return at the end of the month to work basically giving me four weeks off two weeks shy of a full recovery. He didn't really bother to look at the incision to see how it's really doing and got a quick glance and that was it. He was short his answers. He didn't take any of what I was saying into consideration and essentially just sent me to go about my day. read more

Dr. Patel was super nice and professional, but the staff there is a different story. The front desk person was rude and interrupted me every time I tried to talk to her. I made a follow up appointment, but hey needed to reschedule it. So instead of calling me, they sent me a letter in the mail telling me to call them. And when I did, I had to leave a message and have them call me back. Incredibly inefficient. Then when I needed to schedule a surgery, they said that they would have to find a doctor that did surgeries at a hospital in network. After waiting over 2 weeks, I called them and they said they were working on it and would let me know when it was set up. How long does it take? They only have a few doctors at their office, it shouldn't take weeks to find one. They don't leave me with a feeling of confidence in them. read more

The female clerk at check in was rude right off the bat.I brought paperwork from my physician with a referral and she said it was not a referral.I told her that this was a legal document,and WAS a referral and showed her where my doctor had faxed it a few days ago.I presented my I.D. and insurance information and then she said that I really did not need a referral with my insurance company.I did not tell her that I was a retired nurse that work at this hospital in the ICU and Emergency department for years.She was not wearing a name tag like the other clerks because she probably did not want to be reported for her nasty treatment of patients again.She had bleached blonde hair.I did get an appointment,I hope it goes better than this or I will find another place. read more

The other day my mother had an appointment at this facility. While visiting with the physician (who'll go unnamed for now), in her explaining of her routine associated with her aliment, she used a term that she used the whole of her life (one which I too still use as millions of people still do today) deemed "politically" incorrect. Upon completing her explanation of all things associate with her symptoms the physician took it upon themself to correct her, stating "Well first, let me explain that that term "____" is no longer deemed politically correct, we do not use that term now". In this my mother replied in shock as innocently not knowing this "Oh, well, the "main bathroom", but it is there in my bedroom, the main bedroom of the house". I said nothing. I just sat, waiting and watching carefully to see where the physician was going with this, so-called political issue of ill-usage of descriptive terminology by my nearly 90-year-old mother he deemed so important enough to instruct her in was proper and not proper for her to say. I found this obtuse and conceited behavior towards my mother by this physical not only in insulting her, but me as well in his not knowing us at all. The physicians assumption that they held a superiority of knowledge or intellect over us, was beyond presumptuous as well as inappropriate, being we were there for a medical appointment rather than a social and grammar lesson. I was going to address the arrogance of this physician in overstepping their boundaries in attempting to teach, in correcting... my mother of her dialog, and most especially when considering her age and generation of the usage of the term in question of "Master" bedroom or Master bathroom. But I already knew this was to be my last time in bringing her to this facility, and I kept in mind she needed prescriptions and lab work by this wannabe grammar and humanities professor -renewed. So, I kept my posed, keeping my composure. Otherwise, I would have explained to this clearly misguided "wokeism" of a physician that not only was this NOT his task in correcting or teaching someone of proper terminology and language usage, in what was politically incorrect or correct, but in that they, like many in today's society, are in error in thinking that this term of "Master" and of its usage is wrong. It is original linking usage and coined phrase noted in the early 1820s in describing that of the head of the house, or owner of the home. Addedly, the term was used as far back as in England in the 1700s further back in fact, longer than before American was America in association with the term Lord, as in Lord of the Manor or Master of the Estate. In addition, the term Master is still proper to be used in describing and addressing a young male under the age of eighteen, in especially when physically addressing upon a postage letters envelope to a male youth. Clearly the woke subculture of our society is merely looking at the ill-association of the term, just as this poorly misguided and limited enlightened physician is. It would as to illogical deem the term "gay" as only to be associated with someone's sexuality, when in its original usage, the term and its phrase convey someone's emotional state in feeling cheerful and happy, "I feel well today, very gay indeed." I especially found this whole interlude with this physician insulting on a personal level, in being I hold a literary degree with various honors, and in having noted personal works published as well as in having taught English and grammar, I feel I hold a solid understanding of our language and the usage of it a bit more than the good doctor. Therefore, do be advised, when attending an appointment herein this facility, regardless of your age and upbringing, respect you may not find for your age nor education, being illy labeled with assumption of your intellect lowly than the good doctors, with your speech and dialog openly corrected. And if not for my addressing this herein, who knows if tomorrow... it may be your attire or your hair fashion of choice to be critiqued...??? Just maybe after this Yelp of a notation... those of the administration within this facility will reeducate, holding a seminar on acceptable office (bedside) manners regarding doctor to patient interactions. I do earnestly have high hopes for the physician in question, in taking great note of this posted comment, in their understand regardless of personal and social-civic views, of overstepping their duties as a medial care giver, which is all they be after-all... to be more mindful of what their task under such a limited title as "physician" is. Incompetency rules this location. My primary care physician referred me to these clowns more than a year ago. I wish that he hadn't. Simple problems with these people become obstacles for the patient. The staff just doesn't know how to deal with the simple problems such as insurance issues. They can also take forever to get back to you when you call them and sometimes you have to make multiple calls before you get results. Today was the last straw. 10-11 days ago I gave them my new insurance information (went to the office personally) for them to process for an upcoming procedure which was scheduled for today. They had the new insurance information in their system BUT never bothered to process it for verification. They tried to reschedule my procedure 3 weeks from now. I said no thanks -- don't even bother. read more

Absolute nightmare! Avoid this place if at all possible. I went in to the ER cause I could not pee at all for one day going on 2 (nov 5 going into nov6). The night of nov6 I end up going to the Northeast Methodist Hospital. The urologist didnt even bother with the stone at all, instead they decided to only put in a stent. Two hours after my surgery they discharged me. Come to find out the hospital sent my prescriptions to the wrong pharmacy that was closed til the following day. So i go to fill the prescriptions, come to find out my medicaid does not cover it. So i decide to try and tough it out.. Later that day i started to only be able to urinate about 1 tablespoon of extremely bloody urine, that took my down to my knees in tears to create. Finally I go back to the ER, turns out i have an infection and my kidney had swollen, thus blocking me from urinating. The urologist at the hospital suggested a procedure to put a drain in thru an incision on my back, to drain my kidney into a bag... Which absolutely scared me and honestly freaked me out, so I asked if that was absolutely necessary considering the discomfort and possible side effects. So I see if we could wait and see how my body responded to the iv antibiotics. Which after about 36 to 40hrs the swelling went down and I was released from the hospital sunday nov 11. I was told to call back to schedule a follow up appointment with the urologist. The next morning monday nov 12, as soon as they opened at 8am I call and schedule the appointment for friday nov 16. I go to the appointment and dr says everything looks good so I'd like to go ahead and schedule you for surgery tuesday nov 20. Then he tells me Debbie is our surgery coordinator and she will be giving you a call later today (this was at 11am nov16). Monday nov 19 comes and I still have not recieved a call about scheduling my surgery for tuesday. So I decide to call at 9am only to sit on hold for 30minutes then be sent to voicemail. I leave a message with all my contact information, doctors name and my procedure details. Then after no call back at 11 am I call again, wait on hold for 30 min, only to be sent to voicemail again, so I leave another message. Then by 3pm after I still have yet to be contacted, I decide to called again and sit on hold for 30 minutes again, just to be sent to voicemail again. So I leave an additional 3rd message at 3pm. Tuesday rolls around and anxiously I call and leave another message after being on hold for 30 minutes at 8am right as they opened. Still no call back what so ever, now its 1pm so I decide to call one more time as a last ditch effort to contact them. I call around 1pm, sit on hold for 30minutes again, get sent to voicemail again, leave a 5th message. After no communication I got frustrated and decide its best to just go down there in person. Then wednesday morning I go to the urologists office at 8am nov 21 as soon as they opened and I ask to speak to the scheduling coordinator. She claimed that she needed to "resubmit my order", then she assured me she would be calling me back later that same day to let me know when it was scheduled. Friday nov 23 I get a phone call from the surgery staff at the hospital notifying me to prep for my surgery tuesday at noon... That was news to me! Monday rolls around and still no word from the urologist office. At this point I begin to wonder what is going on. Then monday late afternoon nov26 I get a phone call at 4:13pm from the surgery coordinator informing me of my surgery. Seriously! Less than 24hrs before my surgery you call to let me know. Now I'm sorry but this is absolutely unacceptable, the handling of me as a client and communication with me was awful. Not to mention Ive not been able to go to work since nov 6, so Ive not been able to earn an income nearly 3/4 of the month of november. It is not ok to just completely ignore your clients until they show up demanding answers! I would seriously like a sincere written apology from the director (s) of the office of Urology of San Antonio Topperwein location as my experience was unexplicably awful! read more

I have been a patient there for about 5 years now. I had bladder cancer. Now I only go in for bi-annual checkups. I hate going there because the office staff is horrible!!! Several of the ladies up front are just nasty in their behavior. You can tell they hate dealing with most of the elderly that come through the doors! Additionally, you cannot get anyone by phone. When you try calling they let it will ring more 10-15 times and then place you on hold for an extended length of time. I have complained about this in writing, no change. They tell you to arrive 15 minutes early but if you appointment is at 2:00pm, they are taking you back at 2:30pm if your lucky!!! NOW, IF YOU ARE 15 MINUTES LATE THEY MAKE YOU RE-SCHEDULE YOUR APPOINTMENT. How special is that! read more

Here's a small tidbit of a conversation I had with my best friend here in San Antonio. She had asked about finding a urologist for her husband. I called her to let her know about my urologist Dr. Cockerill whom I think is the best. Without naming names she said that she already found one that her husband really liked. After we went back and forth about who had the best urologist she finally asked me, "What's your doctor's name"? So I told her Dr.Patrick Cockerill. My husband was scheduled and we called ahead and said we would be 10 mins late. There was alot of traffic. They locked us out of the office and after 15 minutes of knocking on the door. The girls at the front desk were so rude and said dr. Talley left for the day. We ended up leaving and saw the Dr. Come up right behind us. I tried to make another appointment and we lost our 100 deposit. This urology department is ran by a bunch of rude A** receptionist. If they can't have a good attitude towards their patients. My name is Christian and I am beyond upset at the incompetence of San Antonio Urology. I scheduled a vasectomy over a month ago for today at 4pm. We had our fifth and final child who has now recovered from NICU which used all my PTO. I took off 2 hrs early from work and have no PTO left. I drove 1 hr and 15 minutes to get there, and as the receptionist saw me she dropped her gaze and said, " uh oh". I explained why I was there, and she already knew. Dr. Talley left at 11am. They never called to reschedule, and I called this morning to confirm. Now it is rush hour with almost a two hr drive back. Don't ever go here, you can and should do better. All they want is the nonrefundable $100 deposit. I guess the April Fools joke was on me. Literally, I kept waiting for the receptionist to say just kidding. read more

I had a great experience with Dr Talley and Urology SA. I had a vasectomy and was told there would be limited pain and very little hassle. It worked out even better than I expected! On the day of my procedure, I drove up at 3:02pm and was driving myself home with very little discomfort at 3:27pm. What?!?!? Friends who have had the same procedure elsewhere are amazed at my experience. All I know is Dr Talley and his team were professional, informative, and quick. HIGHLY recommended. read more

I saw Dr Farias for a kidney stone. It was my first kidney stone so I was pretty nervous. Dr Farias was very knowledgeable and confident and that put me at ease. She was friendly and professional and the procedure to remove the kidney stone went off without a hitch. I was very grateful that they got me in quickly for my consult and everyone that in encountered was friendly and professional as well. No one wants to deal with kidney stones, but if I had to again, I'd definitely trust them to get me in quickly and get it taken care of quickly! read more

Horrible place! Dr Farias was very cold and uncaring. Said she would "try" to call me with my lab work results in about a week --- 9 days later, no call. When my internist tried to get the results he also had trouble, and I don't know if he ever got them. Multiple calls and requests for this, with a minimum of 12 minutes on hold any time you call their office. I left there feeling that I wasted my time, but they made sure they had my insurance info so they could bill the heck out of my insurance!!! I will never return to Urology San Antonio!! read more

Dr. Talley is the BEST. The staff, on the other hand.is inept condescending.and rude. It took about 20 minutes to make an appointment. Because the doc is scheduled so tight, the next appointment is about 35 days away. Been out of my prostate meds since April - it's now June 19. I have been trying to get the prescription filled or have someone call me since 8:30 this morning. It is 2:36 pm - still no prescription...and NOW, NOW, the woman I was ON HOLD for, for OVER 20 minutes...got o the line and told me they could have the new (female) nurse practitioner give me my prostate exam and I wouldn't even have to wait for an appointment....I am a 65 year old man. I am a long-term patient of this office. I am VERY uncomfortable with the thought of an inexperienced young woman giving me a prostate exam. So when I told her I would prefer to wait for the doctor appointment, this ridiculous woman, started to SCOLD me. Indeed. She said Now if you don't come to the appointment we will NEVER, EVER call in a prescription for you again. Are prostate meds a big ticket black market item? Does she assume I am addicted to them? My wife and I are moving out of the country and we have been travelling. Also, as I turned 65 and my Retirement kicked in, along with Medicare, I have been sorting out that particular nightmare, and so have not been able to make an appointment to refill because I did not have the cash just in case my insurance was not active. etc. I should not have to be treated like a child or an imbecile. It is really very sad that we are victim of these power-tripping office people who do not have any grace or proper etiquette. I will likely NOT be making that appointment, as I am currently searching for another Urologist who is not a part of a giant practice that allows such rude incompetence to balloon into something so far gone that it is "normal" or "expected". While I am sure this woman would like nothing more than everyone over 60 to start dropping dead from inept medical care, I am a healthy man and expect to live a long time. And the day that a rude office person decides whether I get necessary medication or not is the day I've completely lost all reasoning and communication faculties. Punitive medicine? I think not. Sorry you have such a rotten staff, Dr. Talley. It is just not worth the frustration anymore. We look forward to retiring in Europe later this year and in so doing, getting the medical care we need along with good manners. read more

Tried calling to make an appointment multiple times. Phone would either get a busy signal or ring non stop. Went to the website and filled out appointment form, received a call a few days later(7/25). They scheduled my appointment(7/26@10:40am) and I showed up to find out I had no appointment scheduled. They said I wasn't even in the system. Come to find out, they have a centralized call center scheduling appointments!! BIG MISTAKE!! While at the Topperwein office they told me to schedule an appointment it is a $100 deposit. The call center said nothing of this. This shows me they have poor management if they cant even train employees on basic information like this. After 35 minutes on the phone I was told the next available appointment was a MONTH away!!! So I do not recommend this facility to say the least. To make things worse, when I politely showed I wasn't happy the receptionist (JASMINE) rolled her eyes and looked at another receptionist!! A bunch of pos working there!!! Thank you for wasting my time, I hope others read this and choose a urologist that cares. If the doctors working for this business cared, they wouldn't allow these things to happen. read more
