Exceptional food and service. Beef Donair: Pita was crispy and the right thickness to prevent leakage. Beef was plentiful and very flavorful, did not need too much sauce to have flavor. Definitely one of the best I've ever had. Chicken poutine: Fries were crispy but not dried out. The chicken was cooked well but I think the poutine would've been even better with the donair beef. Canada--land of the poutine! Our Canadian friends recommended getting halal poutine at Donairs in Canada. We found this place about 15 minutes away from our hotel near the Calgary airport and close by downtown Calgary. We came here on a late Saturday afternoon for lunch and we left happy and satisfied! Food - 5 stars Price - 5 stars (portions were great for the price) Customer service - 5 stars Not sure if he was the manager or owner but the man helping us was awesome! He went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our food and were satisfied with everything. He even made some recommendations for us to do while in the city. Donairs is a must when in Canada! Downside: When you enter, there are only 2 little tables with 2 chairs each (not enough for our party of 5 so we put the tables and chairs together and the owner/manager gave us an extra chair from the back). We asked him why they didn't have more seating and he shared to us how they are located right across a school where many of the kids like to just sit and hangout, thus it's more of a to-go/deli like set up. read more

Urban St Donair is a great stop. Admittedly, we had no idea what donair was revealing ourselves to be Americans immediately. The owner took his time and explained their shawarma, their sauces, and their integration of donair ingredients (like a gyro, but different regions, spices, etc.) into the ubiquitous Canadian poutine. It was a great little stop and by the time our food was ready (5 minutes from order to walking out) the line grew to a steady queue of people outside the door. After eating out Donair and beef donair poutine, I see why. Great food, quick, affordable, and some of the kindest shop owners we met on our trip. read more

This Gem in YYC! I've had donair from many places (Texas, Montreal, LA) and this one by far is the best that I have had, from the salads, meats to the poutine!! The flavour and portions is on point so they won't disappoint! Yum! We ordered carryout. Both of us got the beef donair poutine and it was divine. The portions were large and the ingredients were fresh. Can't ask for much more! If you love garlic you should definitely get the garlic "sauce". It's basically whipped garlic. We also got the pistachio baklava and they were SO good! I eat a donair here every other weekend. I used to get a large but it falls apart near the end because I get garlic paste, garlic sauce AND sweet sauce on mine (tomatoes don't help either). The medium is a better size and a good price to go along with it and you get a lot of fries for $3. I would recommend this place for sure if you're in the area. read more

Fantastic chicken shawarma poutine... drool!! Decided to try out this new place after seeing it on social media. Lovely mom and pop shop that is very clean with great service! Got the chicken shawarma and beef donair platters, and the falafel wrap. Platters were good but nothing special compared to the other shops. The poutine was the star dish for sure; comes with gravy, melty cheese, diced tomato, onion, parsley, succulent chicken pieces and we topped it with garlic sauce. Amazing food. Got a mixed chicken and beef poutine and a Donair wrap/ gyro. Both were delicious and very filling. For the poutine they fry up the fries right there so they're hot and fresh. The portion is HUGE we couldn't finish all the poutine. That garlic sauce is devine. And like others have said the baklava is one of the best I've had. A must go! read more

Got the mixed plate with chicken and beef on my first visit here. Food was super tasty and serving size was pretty decent. The mixed plate with an extra pita was $13.60 in total so it was a good deal. The only down side was that the meat was not really hot so there is room for improvement there. Wow!! Found a place better than Jimmy's! I ordered the large chicken shawarma and it was huge. The small order of grape leaves came with 6 good-sized rolls and I don't know what they do to their fries, but they're delicious. It's like they have a light batter on them. The price for all this was just over $20 and with free delivery from Skip the Dishes on orders over $20, it was an amazing deal! This has become my new go-to for shawarma sandwiches. read more
