My coworkers and I recently volunteered to cook food and serve dinner at Urban Peak. I highly recommend it! It was SO much fun! You can either bring your own food to serve as a donation, or you can use the food that they have available. We opted for the latter. We made chicken, mashed potatoes, boiled veggies, green chili, and rolls for the kids within an hour. It was very fast paced, but incredibly fun. We arrived at 5:30, but I'd recommend arriving closer to 5 so that you have more time. Due to the size of the kitchen, I also wouldn't recommend this volunteer opportunity for any more than 6-7 people.
We then served from 6:30 to 7:30. The kids were so thankful; many of them thanked us multiple times. The kids then do the clean up! So you don't have to wash any dishes when you're done! Everyone was so friendly. It was a great experience. I'll definitely be volunteering here again in the future!
Edit: The only issue I had with the day is that despite that fact that our volunteer day was scheduled well in advance, they had no idea we were scheduled. This is an administrative error on their end. I recommend trying to call a day in advance to confirm your volunteer day. read more
