Unique spaces in a very creative place. Sort of tucked away but I swear once you find it and give it a look see, you'd be quite impressed with the place. The venue is fabulous, every room and every space is so unique it just screams memorable. The chill sitting room upstairs to the cool "basement rave" vibe of the downstairs just melt so well into each other. Not long ago I was there for an art gallery showcase. Alot of great artists with pieces that vibed so well with the atmosphere of the venue. I can see everything from a unique wedding to a cool birthday party being successfully thrown here. Great facility for an intimate wedding, or a event! Private... Just the way I like it. it's not a huge place, I don't want to have a big place... I want an intimate place, great place for photos, guests, and perfect little hallway in the front entrance, to keep the guests queued, the brick lined interior is very northwest meets old New York, it's a great atmosphere. I came here because we hosted a Microsoft Product Launch preview event for some very special store employees here in Seattle. We filled the place to the max, and because we took over the alleyway behind the place, I was able to get our Halo Warthog parked in the back, people from inside could see it from above, and it was out of the way at the same time. The folks at Urban Light Studios are amazing! We worked with them as our photographers at AXIS Pioneer Square. Though we had to alter our wedding plans last minute due to COVID, they were fantastic about being flexible and were more than willing to work with us to take some gorgeous wedding photos (socially distanced, of course) so we could commemorate the occasion. Erin and Vishal were personable, easy to work with, and cared so much about being able to help us capture the perfect memories of our time in Seattle. We had a blast during our photoshoot with them! I had my wedding here this past September and it was absolutely fantastic! Kimberly was amazing in helping us get everything set up with our coordinator and our day was perfect and magical. The space itself is beautiful, funky, colorful, and so much fun! You barely need any decorations - just some flowers, candles...you're good! All of our guests thought ULS was awesome. We had about 60 - 70 people, and the space was perfect for that many, they roamed around from room to room and went downstairs to dance. ULS has great flow. I really want to like this business but I just can't. They're slow to respond to booking inquiries and despite the fact that I've booked with them at least 4 times, they never remember who I am. Sure, four studio rentals isn't a lot but don't they keep records? Why do they always greet with me with a "nice to meet you"? My last visit to the studio was to shoot a short video of a fellow photographer. After the session Kevin (the owner), who overheard the taping and must have decided that my client was the worthy photographer, chatted my client up about his photography, his business, etc never once even acknowledging me. I was the one who booked this appointment (ie: I was HIS client) yet I was made to feel like I wasn't worthy to hold a conversation with. Overall this left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. Out of desperation I was willing to give them one more chance yet, again, they've disappointed. Zero response to a booking inquiry. With so many other studios in the area (many of which are closer, have better parking and much better customer service) I'm surprised there's such a lack of effort here. Will not return. read more

One word can describe everything about Urban Light Studios: AMAZING. My fiance and I were faced with the typical wedding location issues; we wanted to find something in Seattle that was unique, fun, and affordable. Unfortunately, "affordable" in Seattle is somewhere above the $3,500 range, which was quite a bit over our budget. Luckily, my (now) husband kept finding ULS popping up when he was looking in the Greenwood neighborhood, and stopped by one evening. Not only is the space amazing (fyi you're going to hear a lot of that word in this review), but his first contact with Kevin and Paige (the owner and the event coordinator) was so refreshing and totally different than everyone else we'd talked to on the wedding "scene". We were sold! They are both so easy to work with, were able to give us so many ideas and resources for customizing our perfect wedding, and were available to us above and beyond a normal event contact person. ULS also completely "saved the day" for our wedding. We couldn't find a photographer available for our date (I promise that we're not "cheap" or "picky" people - we just had a pretty short engagement after 5+ years of dating and wanted to get married in the summer!), but found out that in addition to having a photo studio in the space, ULS also had a team of photographers (in addition to the owner, Kevin). Autumn, our day-of coordinator, grabbed her camera and started shooting. And shooting. And shooting. She got everything! All of our decorations, the ceremony, special times during the reception, me, him, our families, friends, random hilarious moments - and all of it on a hi-res CD given to us about a week or two later. Like I said in the beginning: AMAZING. If you're looking for a unique wedding space that can be completely tailored to exactly what you're looking for, go to Urban Light Studios. If you're looking for a photographer that captures every special moment without being obvious (Autumn was like a freakin' ninja!), talk to Urban Light Studios. We recently hosted our wedding at Urban Light Studios and had a wonderful experience! The event staff (we worked primarily with Elise) was very helpful and always a pleasure. The space itself is great- super eclectic and different from most venues in the area. From the hardwood floors, to the exposed brick walls to the funky and charming decorations / artwork throughout the space, it's a wonderful venue. Also, it requires VERY LITTLE extra decor (the space speaks for itself), which is a big plus for your event budget. We had 70 guests at our wedding, and it was perfect for a group that size. For those of you considering ULS for a wedding or other event, we also found that street parking for our guests was not a problem. And, ULS has tables and chairs for rent at a resonable price which saved us a ton on bringing in external rentals, which often come with hefty after-hours delivery fees. BIG bonus! read more

My husband and I were married at ULS a couple of weeks back, and we're still glowing. We can't stop hearing "BEST WEDDING EVER!" from all of our guests, and surely the venue had a lot to do with it. What can I say? This place is perfect. From the second we walked in and Elise gave us a tour, we didn't think twice... We didn't look anywhere else. We just knew it was the right place for us and booked it on the spot. Pros: - You can bring your own alcohol and save a ton of cash! - This space will look amazing with 50 people or 150 people. We had just over 100, and although it was a little tight for the ceremony, it was never uncomfortable. Elise knows how to utilize the space to make it work for each event's needs. - PERSONALITY / WOW FACTOR! If you're an eccentric person -- or you just love good art and music, this place SINGS. I DIY'd almost all of the decorations, and it was such a relief to know that I didn't really have to do too much to the room, since there was already such a great color palette and fantastic permanent art that kept things interesting without being too busy. Since the venue was the first thing we booked, I just planned decorations and color palettes based on the existing vibe. - PHOTO BOOTH! We chose a photographer separate from the ULS photographers, but we did use the photo service they offer with their photo booth downstairs. We just got the pictures back and they are AMAZING! The best part: the photo booth is downstairs, so to tie everything together and keep the guests engaged, they projected the photos in a stream upstairs so everyone could see what was going on down there. Our guests got a little wild -- seeing their goofy shots projected above the dance floor was the icing on the cake! - Use their preferred caterers -- Not only do those people understand the "different" type of space, and how the room needs to be flipped quickly from ceremony to reception -- but they have picked out the best of the best in terms of food and service. (We used Shooby Doo Catering, and have nothing but good things to say). - This place gives you a lot for a very fair price - great staff, an unforgettable room, great decor, and great photographs. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this space! My husband and I got married in Europe and did a casual wedding reception here last weekend. Elise was very helpful in the planning of the event. They have additional table and chairs to rent and a parking lot nearby to rent. Although a lot of our guests found street parking...something to consider if you are on a budget. Another reason we chose this place is no need for extra decorations...another budget friendly tip. There is so much to see already in every room of the space and it is all so eclectic. You can also hang your own art work! Since I live in the Greenwood neighborhood and have discovered this hidden gem, I will be back for art walks and any other events they have going on. This is an adorable space. It's bigger than it looks and would work for a small to medium party or wedding. I really liked the creative vibe and the downstairs was perfect for the art show we were attending. There are large loft-style windows and a kitchen in the main room on the top level and there are 4 rooms to the side. Though I really loved the space, I have two reasons I didn't give it 5 stars: 1. The decor styles of the different rooms seems spastic and incohesive. The main room was rustic, one room was safari style, one room was Asian-style, one was futuristic and then the dressing room was log cabin style. The place has to make up its mind! 2. There aren't enough bathrooms. I saw one single bathroom and a sign for another one. I didn't actually ever see that second bathroom. With that said, we still had a great 4-star time!! :) read more

YES. Just yes. This place is....yes. We just had our reception here over the weekend. We knew we wanted a venue that felt like a house party, where guests could just have a good time and not feel like they were at a typical wedding (because it was not a typical wedding, it was just the party). As soon as we walked into ULS we knew it was the perfect place for us. We didn't have to decorate at all, and the candles we ended up putting out as our only decoration already came with the place! The venue is broken up into a bunch of different rooms, which is EXACTLY what we were looking for. We had a karaoke room, a photobooth room and DJ downstairs, and ran slideshows in the China Room and on the main screen. We had 2 specialty drinks being served in the Tiki Room and a bar downstairs and at the kitchen. They also let us bring in a stage that we built ourselves for the program. It was the perfect house party vibe, where people could find their own nooks and crannies to enjoy themselves. On top of it, YOU CAN BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL! People, this will save you SO MUCH $ you can't believe it. I am still so happy we found this venue, because there is truly no place like it. All of our guests came up to us, as well as our caterers, commenting on what a bad ass venue it was and they had never seen anything like it. It totally creates a fun and warm vibe for your party, reception, whatever it is you are throwing. On top of it, the staff are amazing. We worked closely with Erin who was always quick to respond to our litany of questions, and the rest of the staff were amazing as well. I am so happy we found this venue for our party. Urban Light Studios ROCKS. We just had our wedding here on November 30, 2014. The environment was perfect. The price was more than right for the space. From the funky art, to the lion in the Tiki Bar; the space felt like OURS, and we fell in love with it immediately. The venue needs no extra decorations. It's highly functioning for a smaller to mid sized wedding. The sound system was perfect without a DJ, and our music playlist on our IPhone made for a crazy dance party. The downstairs area was hip, and made for a great happy hour location as the upstairs was flipped for our ceremony. The staff were amazing and prompt. Autumn answered all of our questions, and had great suggestions and recommendations. We ended up using Shooby Doo catering, and were told by every guest that that was the BEST wedding food they have ever eaten. They knew the space well, and worked with us to put together a delicious meal and evening. We used Vera and Nicole from ULS as our photographers. They knew the space, knew the lighting, and now we have over 1,600 photos to remember our special day:) I can't say enough great things about Urban Light (Besides that Macklemore had his Christmas Party there- so it MUST be fantastic). My husband and I will definitely be attending art walks here when we can; not just to re-live our awesome wedding day and enjoy some art-but also to bump into Autumn, Vera and Nicole. This place is bizarre, and I mean that in a good way. I don't really understand how it even exists where it does, I think there is some sort of magic going on, some sort of dimensional portal or something which allows this level of cool to exist in a three-foot wide space. One minute you're on this semi-crummy street, dodging the day-drinkers staggering out of the Baranof, then you go through this unassuming glass door and suddenly you're in Greenwood's answer to Disneyland. I mean, there are no rides or anything. But the variety in atmosphere, the attention to detail ... everywhere you look is a photo op. Hey, look! There's a garden, there's a big shiny red stove, there's the coolest bathroom ever, there's some intricate tile work, there's a wall made out of paint-by-numbers, there's a futuristic couch, there's a log cabin, there's a seven-foot taxidermied lion ... I could go on. Next time there's a public event here (artwalk!), drop by and have a look. It's a great place to have your birthday party, or graduate art show, or wedding. Plus, after having participated in several group art shows here, I can attest that the owners are straight-up cool, nice and honest. read more

Do you want the absolutely most eclectic venue space in Seattle? Trust me, you HAVE to check out Urban Light Studios. When I was searching for possible venues, I found this place on Yelp, so I want to make sure I return the favor and let others know about this AMAZING space. I hosted my 40th birthday party here last December, and I still have party guests telling me how much they loved this place. Where do I start? Well, the staff here is *incredibly* helpful, with an upbeat, can-do attitude. I worked directly with Paige and Autumn, and they were a joy to work with. I am the ultimate Type A personality, and they never once got annoyed by the myriad questions I emailed them with. Whenever I wanted to stop by the venue to measure tables, or double-check on a room's layout, they were always happy to have me swing by. Then there is the venue itself - at least 6 different funky rooms, that are all connected in a giant circle, so there is continual flow and movement to your party. This is not your typical reception space where everyone just stands around in one giant room. There's a fully functioning kitchen (which we used to heat our appetizers) with a gorgeous red retro stove and a beautiful mosaic wall, an awesome dance floor/dining space, a DJ booth/nook, a mod lounge area, a Chinese-decorated dining room, a Northern Exposure room, and the pièce de résistance, the Tiki Bar, which includes a *full-size stuffed lion*. Trust me, your guests will just be in awe of this place. Oh, and there is also an outdoor patio, which is great if you have guests that want to smoke or just get some fresh air. We hired The Invisible Hostess to help us serve food, take coats, etc., and for music we brought our iPad and plugged it into their sound system, which worked perfectly. Our event planner was there all evening, so she was able to help with any last-minute questions, and just to make sure that everything ran smoothly - which it did. I can 100% recommend this venue to anyone looking for an event space that has that "something special". In fact, I'm hoping one of my friends hosts a party here so I can attend as a guest! read more

Guests loved the space and it definitely helped set the tone for a fun event. I worked with Erin and Vera who are both rad event goddesses. They totally took care of my questions and didn't mind the times I was kind of a crazy be-yatch as I was setting up for the party (you don't get the space until 5pm so I was hurrying like a mo-fo). My now-husband and I wanted a fun venue in Seattle for our wedding and reception, and stumbled upon Urban Light Studios during our research. The space looked great and the potential to have photography and a photo booth included as part of the Ridiculous Package was a major draw. We were sold when we took a tour with Vedada and, overall, our entire experience could not have been more perfect! Once we committed to ULS, Autumn was quick to respond to my questions and put me at ease at every step along the way, despite the difficulties of planning an out of town wedding. The 10-day meeting, included as part of the process, was a great way to iron out details and insure that the day was everything we envisioned. Autumn and Vedada were our photographers and we are absolutely thrilled with the photos we received. It's a hidden gem in Greenwood and Seattle and really, beyond. It's the perfect party spot and wedding location. I was left in charge of finding a venue for my wedding, and after stumbling upon this gem in Greenwood I knew that I didn't need to go anyplace else. From start to finish our experience was perfect: the team at Urban Light Studios is the ideal mix of professional and fun, and they made every step of our wedding planning a breeze since they have a dedicated event planner as well as talented on-site photographers. From a decoration standpoint, the venue is so well designed that depending on your event you can decorate as little or as much as you want and still retain the swanky, retro, and organic feel of the space. They also participate in the Greenwood Art Walk every 2nd Friday, and they do an amazing job of curating interesting pieces from local artists. We love the Art Walk and the space so much that we try to drop by whenever we can, and the staff still greets us very warmly by name even though it's been months since we got married there. We had Vera and her assistant take photos at our wedding. She was absolutely amazing. It was an entire day of the experience. They were there from getting ready till the very end of the night (even helping us take a few last minute super awesome and unique photos) You could tell Vera cared so much about doing a great job and making it a special day for my Wife and I. Their schedule fills up fast, so you either have to act quick or book nearly a year in advanced. 2) décor is excellent, intimate feel, we bought flowers and made photostrings - they had a wall for photostrings. DJ equipment was also provided so we could use a friend's laptop instead of hiring a DJ. 3) studio can provide furniture rental; couches and tables that are always present are included and we had the option to rent folding chairs for the ceremony and cocktail tables for the reception. 4) great photography, used owner, Kevin and Autumn - fun photographers, didn't feel overwhelmed by their presence, catered to the type of shots we wanted and our theme, very professional . Photo booth was a guest hit and the pics turned out great 5) definitely use the preferred caterers since they know the setup, rules, and can operate efficiently 6) there is a parking lot available to rent, but we didn't use that option. We didn't have any complaints from our guests. 7) our only gripe was that it was a little difficult getting our questions answered by the coordinator early on. Email seemed insufficient and it was hard to connect with her via the phone. About a month before the wedding, we definitely felt more like her top priority. The coordination seemed to be a little more laid back and slightly less organized than we expected. The day of the wedding, she was exceptionally great. We got married here in October and we loved evvvverything about the experience. Walking into ULS for the first time, I knew it was the perfect spot. Kim sealed the deal, with her warm personality and obvious organization. I loved the quirkiness of the space, from Lamar in the Tiki room to the Log Cabin room. It also had so much personality and permanent decoration that we didn't have to do a lot (really nice when you're planning so many other details). We just added a wedding backdrop and hung a few photos along the long wall. We rented the whole space, including the photobooth. Speaking of the photobooth, the provided props are fantastic. Our friends and family had so much fun playing around with them. Vera and Lenaig were our photographers for the day. LOVED them. They worked together really well and made it feel like we were out taking pictures with a few friends. Vera sent us a questionnaire ahead of time so she wouldn't have to consult us on the day of; she made sure to remind us of specific photos we'd requested. I wouldn't change anything about the experience. Thanks so much, ULS! Edit: I wanted to second the tip that parking was not bad nearby. Our guests had no trouble with that. Awesome set up! This would be an amazing place to throw a holiday party, medium sized wedding or event. Every single room has a different theme and it's so fun! Lots of space but no room is too large, so you'll have to expect your guests to roam around. If they tell you about having speakers both upstairs and down, they do, but the downstairs speakers are small and almost impossible to hear. read more

When my now husband and I started looking for a venue for our wedding/reception, we wanted something unique and different-a great place to throw a party. Urban Lights Studios was the perfect fit! It worked very well for our 85 guest wedding/reception. The main room provided a very intimate space for our ceremony, and the themed rooms (the China room, tiki room, log cabin room, etc) provided excellent spaces for guests to mingle throughout the reception. We worked with Autumn, as well as, several other staff members throughout the planning process, and they were completely on top of all communication, and very easy to work with. We did not use a DJ, and the stereo system worked great with our own IPAD playlists for an excellent dance party. Our guests had a blast, and totally loved the place. Amazing, wonderful, fun, perfect! Urban Light Studios, start to finish, was the perfect venue for our wedding. The Space: Comfortable and fun! The set up is great if you want a wedding or event that has your guests mingling and raving about interesting decor. Hardly any of my guests were sitting (although there was ample seating!) because the venue is so much fun to walk around and explore. We had around 120 guests and there was plenty of seating for those who wanted to sit, and lots of room to roam. Not stuffy at all! Plus - Photo booth that is manned by a photographer, awesome! The Staff/Service: Not only was Elise (the event coordinator) gracious and patient in setting up our date, but she went above and beyond to make sure our day was perfect. She checked in with me to make sure I was having a good time, brought me food and made sure both my husband and I had a drink in hand as we left the ceremony. She was so sweet and kind to everyone, all my guests complimented on how attentive and wonderful she was. As for Autumn (the photographer), I couldn't say nicer words about her! She was so fun to work with! She was so creative and utilized every interesting corner she could find! She too, was patient with my guests who wanted special photos taken. Both ladies are a pure dream to have working your wedding! The Experience: Perfect, what else can I say?? The top three comments from the wedding - 1. We just held our wedding here this weekend (October 16), and all of our guests *loved* the venue and had a wonderful time. We had about 95 adults and kids for a brief ceremony and informal reception, and there would have been plenty of room for more guests. The space is gorgeous, featuring an open plan with different connecting rooms that can be appropriated for different purposes. Our friends who are photographers were practically salivating over the possibilities. The tiki room with the bar was a big hit, as were the paint-by-numbers murals and the library, which easily transformed into an oasis for parents with young kids or tired hipsters. There is also a private outside patio that is accessible from the inside only. Paige and Autumn, the event staff, were amazing--flexible, professional, cool, and responsive throughout the entire process. We live in California and weren't able to come and see the space until that week, but we had a friend go see it, and the pictures on the website are accurate depictions. I would highly recommend holding an event here for anyone who is looking for a versatile, open, flexible, and fun space. The only negative thing--which had nothing to do with ULS--was two pretty ballsy wedding crashers, who claimed that they "knew the groom" when questioned by the both bride and groom. We threw them out and took away their food and wine, but in retrospect we probably should have searched their bags as well. Though I'm from Seattle originally, we live in LA now and most venues here make you hire security no matter what the size or type of event. Didn't think we'd need that in GREENWOOD, but some Googling has schooled me on my naïveté. If your event is DIY like ours was, I would designate a point person to watch out for sketchy folks and/or have some kind of code word, printed invitation, or list--no matter where you live! read more

We held our wedding here in April. It was a phenomenal space--just the right size for our 65-person guest list, with just enough quirkiness and interest to match the mood we were trying to create. The staff are amazingly responsive and helpful, and were a delight to work with. It felt like we had our own set of cheerleaders because they were so encouraging of our weird ideas, and brought many creative ideas to the table as well. They helped me to feel confident that it would be a memorable event for everyone, which was perhaps the most useful thing they could do. And of course, they made sure the event itself ran smoothly. I didn't have to worry about a thing on the day of. In addition to the venue staff, we also hired the ULS photographers to photograph the ceremony and reception, and to do some formals offsite beforehand. What a dream! You can look at their portfolio to see the quality of their work, which speaks for itself; but what their portfolio doesn't convey is how fun they are to work with. Vera and Vedada put us at ease and made the photo session a pleasure (which is saying a lot, because it was the part I had been least excited about). I truly love the photos. Like other reviewers, my husband and I knew ULS was the right place for us as soon as we saw it. We loved the "theme room" aspect, the fact that it was both intimate and accommodating of people being in different spaces, and that we hardly had to do any decorating at all (not our strong suit). We had our wedding here due to the eclectic mid century modern theme. We enjoyed the space although tight for 100 plus people. One gripe is that we had quite a bit of trouble with the event planner at Urban Light Studios and frequently needed to refer back to our contract. MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING! Ultimately we needed to talk with the manager to get these issues resolved. Dealing with the event planner caused us much stress up until the day of the wedding. My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here and were so impressed with how easy it all was. The atmosphere is great, very intimate and funky. Our pictures were beautiful and the management was up for all our of ideas and details, even letting our dog participate in the ceremony and run around all night. I highly recommend it! read more
