Interesting spot in GR! I've been to this consignment shop a few times now and have been slightly disappointed both times I've gone. Each time I've gone it seems that the clothes selection is for the wrong season. Going in July I was expecting a lot of tank tops, sundresses, and skirts. What I found was a lot of sweaters, pants, and long sleeve shirts. Prices were high as well. The store is organized very well by color and size which makes it easy to look for certain pieces. The staff were friendly as well! If you're looking for season specific pieces or cheaper pricing this is not the place for you. read more

Overpriced.0verworn. Poorly organized by what seems to be color only? Very crowded space. This may be someone's tax writ off or money laundering business. I was there on a Saturday afternoon and ss WL ppl went in and out without making a single purchase. I an my two other shoppers with me followed suit. When we FINALLY did find something we were interested in, the price was crazy! Orig price was $118, this " thrift" store marked it $79 and they were excited to say I could get it it half off ! So $39 .50 for a crocheted tank top isn't thrifty to me. Perhaps I am jaded because I just bought one the day before at Platos for $6. read more

Wandered in here today after driving by many times but I wasn't impressed with the prices for a consignment boutique. Everything was very pricy no matter the brand. The selection was great and I loved how it was organized by color though. I just wish things in Grand Rapids weren't so pricy. read more

This place has great quality stuff but it's a major pain to find anything. Its organized by COLOR ONLY. All the styles and, more importantly, all the sizes are mixed together. Its not the best priced stuff either, but if you have all day to spend looking it's worth a stop. read more

This is a consignment store offering stylish, discounted clothes, shoes, jewelry, bags and accessories. How it works is that you bring in your items you wish to sell with them. They choose the items that will most likely sell, given the season, customer demand, and style of your item. They will then feature the item for a set amount of time on the sales floor. When it sells, you get a portion of the sale, depending on how long your item has been with them (the longer it goes unsold, the lower the price, and the less your return). I worked with them to sell a few items and I thought the amount I made was fair and honest. They were very clear with their policy and how they handle transactions so there were no surprises. Everyone I talked to was friendly to work with clearly communicated the process. The items I sold with them were recent trends and in good condition; it was just stuff that didn't fit quite right on me. The way things are displayed in the store and the fact that they only carry stylish items, gave me confidence that they would do all they could to help my items sell. OVERRATED & EXPENSIVE The prices at Urban Exchange are higher than you can get at retail sales. They also mark up in order to give you a 25% or 50% discount; that's a marketing tactic. Their website says they accept items in current fashion in the past 2 years, many of the items on the racks are at least 5 years old. I live a major metropolitan area on the East Coast where prices at consignment shops are lower than this one in Grand Rapids. Also consigners recieve 40% of the sold price, typically it's 50%. They have some JCrew merchandise, which is very similar to many consignment shops around the country. I'm told the annual sidewalk sale is worth the trip, they have a $5 rack. read more

Urban Exchange is one of my current favorite consignment shops in Grand Rapids. Not only is the staff incredibly friendly and helpful, but the owner herself is actually at the store most of the time too. They consign higher-end, fashionable women's clothing and organize their store by style and color which makes shopping easy. The only complaint I've heard about Urban Exchange is that for consignment, their prices are a little high. This is true, but I think the quality of the clothing and excellent customer service are more than worth the price. Once a year in the summer Urban Exchange puts on a really incredible sale where they fill the sidewalk + lawn with clothes all for $5 bucks a piece. Brand name clothes in good condition and for 5 bucks? Lets just say I have spent a lot of money there! I actually had a really fun experience there a few months ago where a friend of mine and I where shopping a bit and ended up doing yoga poses with the owner of the store, Stephanie. (I think is her name.) Such a fun lady, and she's got some killer arm balances! I picked up a pair of Armani Exchange blue jeans from Urban Exchange last year and still get compliments on them almost every single time I wear wear them! They have a great fit and some unique detailing on the back that I love and I paid no where near as much as I would have if I had bought them directly from Armani Exchange. read more

When was Urban considered a plethora of Target brands and old outdated vintage clothing with cruddy customer service. Living in L.A. and visiting I was expecting urban from Urban Exchange not a Platos Closet used Goodwill vibe. Your better off going to H&M for a urban vibe of clothing. read more

The store was cramped. There were six other shoppers in the store and it felt claustrophobic. The racks were filled too full, and it was impossible to look through the clothes. The clothes that I did find were marked far too high for consignment prices. The thing that bothered me the most, though, is that they advertise as a vintage store. However, when I asked if they either bought or sold vintage clothing she looked at me like I was crazy and said "no." read more
