Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? The service and atmosphere at this Grill'd are both perfectly fine, and they've got a good deal of real estate to work with. The burgers are made fresh to order, so you can expect to wait a good ten minutes as I did for my standard Grill'd Burger. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $12.00 AUD for a Grill'd Burger was a reasonable price point, and this burger was of good size. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Everything about my Grill'd Burger was just okay. For starters, while the patty had some good flavor to it it was far too small especially compared to the oversized bun. From there, the peripherals were unique enough to keep it interesting, but made the patty seem like a supporting act as opposed to the star of the show. Single Star. Grill'd's (that's weird) look is novel, and varies between chains, but I especially like this one with it's extra-large fork "chandelier" and wooden interior decor (and went a little photo happy with my iPhone). I like their overall presentation of both the place and the food, plus they give you an "emergency knife" for those who have hard time managing their burger... I had the Moroccan Lamb burger, which was better than one of their beef burgers that I had some time ago, and their fries were pretty good as usual. Boris had a beef burger, which looked pretty good, especially with the panini bread, rather than the traditional. Though the patties were still the "Australian burger patties" that come in "pattie-cutter" form and resemble meatloaf, the burger combinations of Grill'd's burgers still better than a lot of places that I've tried. Not just content with being a run of the mill establishment, Kettle & Tin boast eight (yes you read right, 8) varieties of Bloody Mary's, a wickedly delicious parmesan pan fried gnocchi and for breakfast a sinful poached pear with fig muesli and mascarpone. While I'm yet to experience the full dinner menu, I did enjoy breakfast here on a wintery Brisbane day, ordering what could be considered a predictable avocado on sourdough which was pretty wonderful - trust me, avocado on toast can be bad! My partner in breakfast crime did try the poached pears and he was so busy eating I think it all translated to, "this is delicious, don't you dare ask if you can try some, I want it all for myself." The interior is casual yet rustic (think old doors from Queenslanders on the wall as decoration) and the influence of Asa's (one of the three musketeers) creative spark is evident as an ongoing art piece on one wall of the café. There's a vibe and atmosphere abuzz here already and with nothing like this bar along this section of Paddington's famous strip, I sense its about to become popular for the breakfast, cocktail and food-loving crowds.

We chose Kettle and Tin for an early lunch with friends over the weekend, partly based on good reviews here. The place has a relaxed vibe and a cool (as in breezy & artsy) interior. Being there a little past 12 noon, we opted for the drinks menu and chose the regular BM, Goddamn Mary, and Mojitos. All seemed rather light on the "good stuff", but the Mojitos were fresh and BMs nice and spicy. The goddamn, with its smokey flavor, was the clear favorite for three of us (the 4th member of our group, however, called it "BBQ sauce with a straw". Ouch). The drinks seemed to take forever to come out (maybe the bartenders where busy whipping up milkshakes for the hipper-than-thou late-brunch-crowd?). The food on the other hand was surprisingly quick: we ordered duck salads, a Barra burger, and the pulled pork; the latter two with chips and aioli. As you can see in my pics, it all looked yummy, and it certainly didn't disappoint. The Barra was described as 'a bit muddy' by one, and the fish (in quantity and taste) got a bit drowned out by the rest of the burger's contents. Still delicious though. We chose the duck salad partly because of an earlier photo of this dish here on Yelp, and it was a similar visual feast with a range of textures and colors. The salad was really great and the duck had a nice flavor to it. Pretty tough meat though, although probably not unusual for this bird. The pulled pork sandwich was excellent. Not as subtle as the salad, but the combination with the dressing/salad in the bun was fantastic. All in all, a very enjoyable place for lunch. This place has put me in the mood to try similar places around town. Next time, I would probably come for the post 3PM menu, so that I can try the Confit Duck Nachos (with a refreshing pale ale?), which sound totally yummy.

The chips here are so so so good. Beer battered chips with lemon, man. Who needs fish when the chips are little chunks of heaven? Not me! My dining companions, however, tell me that their fish gets an A in terms of your fish and chip style battered fish and isn't overly greasy and soggy like some fish and chip shop fish can be. I Carraway Pier is renowned among QUT students and Kelvin Grove locals for its way above average fish and chips, and the breezy outdoor tables are usually packed even at lunch time. While my friends enjoy their fish and calamari, I pretend to be interested in the quality of their meals, but really I'm just nodding and feigning attentiveness while marvelling at the beauty of the humble chip. If the line up to order isn't too long I'm inclined to drop in and wait. Carraway keep their menu pretty simple this in turn allows them to always serve quality food. There isn't too much choice in the type of fish you can order but on the flip side, you can buy a Single Pack that includes a piece of cod, some calamari, two prawns and chips for under $10. Their selection of burgers, served with chips, is also under $10 and is perfect for students and professionals looking for an affordable feed to fill the stomach. Turn around on an order, when at its busiest, can take up to fifteen minutes. But, for what you pay is rewarded handsomely. A welcome addition to Carraway is that they also serve breakfast. The most expensive meal, their Big Breakfast, is under $12. I have not personally had the breakfast but I've been told that it's well worth the coffers.

It has definitely become the go-to place to grab a good quality burger throughout Australia. Despite the large number of stores throughout Australia if definitely does not have the 'chain' vibe and each location tends to have its own personality. The Garden City shopping centre Grill'd certainly provides an enjoyable experience. The burgers are always top quality and the waiting times are low, even during busy periods such as weekend lunch. This particular location always seems to have a bevy of reading material for diners to peruse while they are waiting for and eating their burgers. My personal favourites are the 'Hot Mama' Moroccan flavoured burger and the much more traditional 'Summer Sunset' which comes with some of that sweet sweet pineapple. The range is very interesting and they seem to be constantly adding to the menu with new salads and steak sandwiches. Vegetarian options are also available for those inclined, and the home style thick cut chips with rosemary salt always go down a treat. Staff are always helpful and friendly. If anything a bit too friendly almost chasing you out of the store as you leave to make sure that they have said 'Have a great day'. If you have been living under a rock, or simply have passed by thinking that you do not want to pay upwards of $10 for a burger, trust me, it is definitely worth your while to give it a try, and you will likely become just as hooked as me.

You get a choice of wholemeal or white buns, and then there's a range of beef, lamb and chicken burger options. They also sell beers. This place is often open when nowhere else on campus is, so that's a bonus, and the staff are pretty friendly. If they get an unexpected rush during a quiet period they can be underprepared and understaffed leading to some long waits, but really, I suspect this doesn't happen too often. There's often vouchers around the place for some deals too, so keep an eye out.

The burger was HUGE! It was tasty as well but got a bit messy. I think the egg was a bit too much for me. The highlight was definitely the beetroot. I have fallen in love with beetroot since coming to Australia. The buns were fine but didn't stand out like the Beastie ones. The hot chips had a Grill'd herb mix which was pretty tasty. It's nice to add garlic and salt to the chips. Since there were so many burgers to choose from, I would like to go back to Grill'd and try out a chicken burger. It's been super fun trying out all the burger joints in town and if anyone knows a secret burger joint I must try- let me know!
