We live nearby so we're pretty frequent regulars. During the height of the summer I bet we stop by for a quick treat as we walk our dogs at least twice a week. (Probably a whole lot more to be honest. ) My favorites are the strawberry shortcake parfait, or the peanut butter brownie. My husband loves the muddy buddy peanut butter and chocolate concrete. The cookies are warm and freshly baked. Theres always new flavors to try. I've never had anything that wasn't wonderful. Plus this establishment really enhances our downtown area. Taking an unused space and turning it into something fun for the community. Always hosting fun events for families. What a gem in Collinsville.

Teach the new employees how to dip ice cream. They should never give a customer a dip that wouldn't cover a tablespoon.

What an absolute disappointment last night. Bobby would be very upset to see his beloved custard…read moreshop in such disarray. Dirty floors, dirty counters. I watched an employee take a trash pickup tool and move it, then without washing her hands, she scooped custard. . They also changed many of the favorites. The strawberry shortcake is no longer Krutas (big mistake). The nutty bar concrete: they used a few pieces of nutty bar and added in peanut butter and hard shell. I assume it cheaper and it was gross. I didn't finish it. I've given Bobby's a 2nd and 3rd chance. I think I'm done. When I pay $7 for a regular concrete, it should be made as Bobby had created when he owned the place. Sad.

Bobby's offers two different sizes of Banana Splits and I went with their small. OMG, it was huge. I couldn't eat all of my small, so I cannot imagine what I would have done with a large. Their split was a traditional split. It had three good sized scoops of their famous vanilla custard covered in, Hot Fudge, Pineapple and Strawberries. It was then topped with, whipped cream, a sprinkle of crushed nuts and crowned with maraschino cherries. After enjoying my split, I had to go back up to the order window and get my first Caramel Apple of the season. If you haven't had one of their apples, you gotta try them. I always go with the Caramel Pecan. I may try the M&M one this season. If you cannot make it to Maryville, they sell Bobby's Apples at local Schnucks and Dierbergs. The apples usually are in the produce department. Staff is fantastic. They are super sweet and friendly.

I felt for the staff at Cold Herald, they got slammed during the Solar Eclipse. Old Herald Brewery…read more& Distillery chose to remain closed, since it was a Monday. That was a BIG mistake, with the HUGE crowd in the courtyard for viewing the solar eclipse, they lost some major money and the crowd was not talking fondly of them. Any way, the staff inside the little Cold Herald building, hustled and did the best they could. They were selling a small menu of food, specialty cocktails and draft beers. I enjoyed a brat, pretzel with beer cheese and both were stadium quality = they satisfied my hunger pains. I also enjoyed the specialty cocktail, Dark Noon Elixir and it was damn good. Later in the day, I had a refreshing, Solar Shady (cute name for the eclipse). I'll close with a shout out to the staff for working extra hard, when it could have been easier if their boss would have just opened Old Herald for this special event.

It's counter-intuitive, I know, but we chose the first really cold evening of November to try out…read morethe Cold Herald, after our somewhat regular visit to the Old Herald. It's clever name for an ice-cream expansion "across the plaza" from the parent restaurant. No gelato tonight (well, it is the end of the season). But a couple scoops of "praline pecan" was a delicious dessert. That hard-sserve ice cream must have been mighty frozen, since it took several minutes in the hopping-around it's-cold-out-here weather to finally get our two cups. Thanks, C-herald, with your proximity to mama O-herald, I'm sure someone will suggest we try you again.
