First stop when we arrived in Winnemucca today, for firewood, etc., on way to RV Park just 5 min. NE of town. Staff were very friendly, kind and pretty drive down from the north. I went to Uptown Market because I was told they process wild game. I had just taken a deer and needed it processed, so I headed to Uptown. I was in a bit of a rush as I wanted to take my meat home with me rather than have it shipped (very expensive). The young guy at the meat counter was super cool and had my meat ready in less than two days as promised. The sausage he made is excellent. On a side note, the other employees in the store were very polite and helpful. Great little market. read more

Boned Twice by Rotten Meat Dept. Customer Service--Don't Let it Happen to You! I will never, ever, spend another dime here, nor will my friends, and nor should you or anyone else. I dropped off an antelope for processing on Tuesday with the understanding from the dept mgr it would be ready to pick up on Friday morning. On Friday, about 945, on my way out of town I went to pick it up. Miguel, the butcher, who was out on the grocery store floor sprucing up the meat display, was unaware he had my antelope in the locker and I followed him to the cooler--there it lay, on a rack in the game bags I brought it in...not hung up, just in a pile. He again said he hadn't known about it, that his manager hadn't told him. He said maybe he could get to it in the afternoon. I told him I was headed out of town, couldn't wait, and would take it with me. "I'm going to have to charge you a storage fee." "You're kidding, right? You don't do what you said you were going to do and now you're going to charge me for not doing it?" So Miguel calls his manager who says yep, charge him $5/day "hanging fee." If I was my younger self i would have really gone off, but.... So they collected $15 from me but will loose many, many times that in lost business as I make good on my vow to Miguel that I would share my experience with everyone. This place is a pretty decent little local grocery store. They carry a regional brands and well known name brands. Their produce isn't always the freshest, bit you can usually get just about everything you need for a meal. They have a decent wine selection considering the size of the store. They also have a "garden" section that caries plants and trees in the summer. read more

I go to this little gem primarily for the meat. Hobie and staff have the absolute best short ribs you can get any where. During the holidays you can get your prime rib cut to order and it is excellent. I recently started making my own hamburger and sausage from elk meat and I can get the pork fat here for next to nothing. Hobie also dresses game - my hubby has brought him antelope, deer and elk and he makes excellent chorizo, sausage and salami. read more

You can literally find better and cheaper quality literally anywhere else in town. The fixtures are 20-30 years old so you have to be cautious buying anything from the coolers, they break down all the time. The uptown made sausages are one of the most popular but are made with expired meat that is ground and seasoned. The owners are abusive toward their staff, have an astronomically high turnover rate. The owners try and regularly resell expired products rather than reduce them before they go past their sell by. The only thing the store does that no other store in town can do is wild game processing. The nursery is the only other one besides Ron's, but if you are looking for anything in particular they probably can't get it for you. You can do better going to literally any other store in town. There are plenty of small businesses to support. Do not waste your money at this one. read more

My husband swears by uptown for processing wild meat. They did a phenomenal job and make the most delicious chorizo. They aren't quite a one-stop-shop for my family's grocery list but their meat department is the best in town. read more
