Do not use. Upstate Movers (http://upstatemovers.vpweb.com). UNDEPENDABLE AND EXTREMELY RUDE!!!!!! Left me ( a woman) with a 16' truck that I couldn't unload myself. I moved to Greenville, SC from out of state. I booked Upstate Movers to meet me in Greenville and unload my 16' truck. They scheduled, confirmed, and asked me several times to make sure I would be on time. I agreed and hauled @** to get there on time. They called to reconfirm that I was on time about an hour before the scheduled job.I was on time. I waited and, after an hour, I called and was unpleasantly surprised to get an earful of why they weren't there and WOULD NOT BE COMING. FYI they didn't even call me to let me know they wouldn't be coming. I remained calm. I was given the excuse that they had another job that was running late. I said I'd wait for a while. But I was told I had to wait 6 hours and that was too long. I was given an airport analogy several times...If your airplane was late you'd just have to wait, you have no choice. Not sure how this applies to movers, but anyway... When I told them I had depended on them I was told, "what am I supposed to do? I'm okay if you call someone else". I took a deep breath as I looked at my very full 16' truck full of boxes and furniture and asked if I could get a recommendation since I was new to the area. I was very rudely told, "I don't give recommendations" and then CLICK. I was hung up on. If you want movers who will show up...DO NOT USE UPSTATE MOVERS. If you do, be prepared to have them back out at the last minute and treat you like garbage. I was able to ask neighbors for recommendations and was given the name of ACTION MOVERS. I highly recommend ACTION MOVERS as they were super friendly, super fast, reasonable...and came within the hour. read more

DID NOT SHOW - Movers were supposed to show up at 2 pm on a Saturday. At 1:45 I get a text from them saying they won't be able to make 2 pm. I call and text asking when they're going to be able to make it, and they reply back 2 hrs later that they aren't coming at all. Do not use this company unless you want the potential to be stranded. You are better off using craigslist and offering cash to the first person than relying on this company. read more

Do not use! Upstate Movers are rude, unprofessional, and unreliable. They were emailed, contacted, and texted regarding our move across town. Immediately upon arriving to our apartment, the boss man had a chip on his shoulder, speaking over me, interrupting my questions, and disregarding my concerns. He insisted he never received any detailed information regarding the service he would be providing and then told us he'd charge double the original quote. Then, upon asking to speak in private outside, he bragged about his experience in the army and that it was his way or no way. I highly recommend upstate movers! I was in need of a quick move and once i called them they had the availability open and did not hesitate to ask me questions and get info to help me out. He had great suggestions and helped me save money. They were very fast and very careful and courteous with my furniture! They put blue blankets over my furniture so it wouldn't get dirty or damaged. Their rate was 75/hour which is great for the level of care and service. Not to mention they even arrived early and called ahead of time to make sure it was okay. This is the moving company that i suggest and will surely be using them again. They also fit my one bed one bath and very large furniture into a 10 x 10 unit! i was astonished that he was able to fit it all in there. They sure do know how to maximize space and store things! As an Independent contractor from Baltimore, MD.  I called Upstate Movers (Ed Fitch) owner to aquire some assistance with a move.  Was given a certain price 3 days prior to the move but, 30 mins prior to his crew arriving the owner Ed Fitch triple the price. Telling me that his crew just received another job paying more.  So our option was to match the price or have a very busy day. This is my first ever review left on Yelp. I called to get a quote, the guy sounded drunk and answered with barely a "Hello". No professional greeting. Was telling me how he did things and was a complete A$$, we've had several movers when we lived in North Carolina and always had a great experience. I asked if he was insured, his response "Well it's not my damn truck, but if you are only paying $300 for a 4 hour move I sure as hell don't plan on dropping anything..." I asked what his mileage charge was (moving 40 miles away) and he said "What the hell do you think, look at my website, it says GREENVILLE movers, I'm not moving you for free." Contacted Upstate Movers for a quote and replied that their prices were too much for me. I received the following correspondence: "Really? I do 170 jobs a year for people who love my prices, I'm not concerned with your opinion. Funny how you pay $3 a gallon for gas, about $1,000 a month for the average apartment, $240,000 for the average house and $25,000 for the average car yet you think We should move you for pennies LOL. You're right. YOU CAN'T AFFORD ME. Ask your family." I doubt this arrogant business owner would treat any customer as well as he treats himself. read more

We used Upstate Movers to unload our rental truck into our new house. Ed and his helpers showed up early, were very careful with our stuff and our house, and made quick work of the massive job. UM is very inexpensive for the quality of their work, and Ed was professional, prompt and helpful in setting everything up. I highly recommend their services. read more

WARNING - Recently moved to Greenville and looked online for a "professional" moving company (with license, bonding, insurance). Got quote from Ed for $95 per hour (3 person team). We got another quote from a private person for less but wanted to go with a "reputable" company that would stand behind the work and give us assurance there will be no issues and was reliable. In the beginning Ed was very challenging and asking all types of questions (see other similar Google reviews) about who loaded the truck. I should have seen this as a flag that he didn't want to deal with unloading a truck that he didn't originally load. (Be careful if you have a pre-loaded truck that Ed or his team did not load - see MAIN ISSUE below!!!) Issue #1: Ed and his team showed up at 9:30am (8am was supposed to be the starting time - verified by text). Ed did say that he thought it was 9:30am. No call the night before, no email reminders. Wanted an early start at 8am to get our first trailer cleared out (only partially full so really only needed an hour or so to get this finished before 2nd trailer arrived at 10am). Ed and his team did scramble at the last minute and get this done quickly when they saw the 2nd trailer arrive. Issue #2: Around 10:30am Ed left for an hour "have to go to another job site, these 2 are ok to work without me for a while". When he was gone his workers asked "are you paying us or is Ed paying us?" Obviously concerning that perhaps these are not regular workers that work for Ed. (Ed told me before hand that "if they ask for money do not pay them"). Sketchy operation. Issue #3: Ed said he does other work also outside of moving and this is not his only job (concerning as I thought this was a professional moving company only) Issue #4: MAIN ISSUE: - I had to leave the home for an hour. My wife and kids were at the home while Ed and his workers began unloading the 2nd trailer. My wife called me about 30 minutes after they started unloading the 2nd trailer saying "Ed just quit and walked off the job". I called Ed to find out what happened but he wouldn't answer his phone. Finally he texted back saying "truck is not professionally loaded someone will get hurt" and that "I lied when you told me 2 people loaded these trailers". (I hired 2 professional men to load this trailer irrespective of the claim Ed has made). I told Ed he was clearly unprofessional by walking off the job and leaving me and my family stranded and that I was going to file a claim on his insurance and bond - his comment to me was "good luck with that, you should have read the contract". (I don't even know if he has insurance, bond, license but we will find out when I file a claim this week.) Fortunately our neighbor had a man moving in furniture from a local retailer. I asked the man if he could move the rest of the furniture from our trailer. He said sure. He went home and got his WIFE and the 2 of them unloaded it themselves until 9:30pm and are coming back Sunday to finish. Furthermore, Ed's team couldn't get 2 pieces of exercise equipment into a downstairs basement and this husband/wife team I hired at the last minute ended up getting both of them into the basement without a problem even after I told them I didn't personally think that it could get done since Ed's "professional" team couldn't do it. Thankful for these people who I should have hired in the beginning. CAUTION - If you plan on hiring Ed, then you should be prepared for him and his team to "walk off" the job if they don't like something. Advise anyone to get copy of his business license, valid insurance and bond and make sure that you write something in the contract to protect you if Ed walks off the job. Also Ed charged me for 4 hours of work (I gave him my credit card to secure a $225 deposit and he charged $380 without my approval). read more

So he refused a customer and along with it was yelling at me through the phone and talking down to me. Who does this to a customer who wants to do business with you?! I called Upstate movers only a few minutes prior to writing this review and I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life by an employee of ANY company let alone a business owner. I called and the owner, Ed answered the phone. I explained that I wanted to move and he gave me the whole speech of how his company works and all of that and told me my minimum move would only cost $150. This being my fifth moving company I had called today, I was very excited that they had given me the cheapest price compared to all the other companies I called. I said that I was very happy and interested because they did have the best deal and that I wouldn't need their services until March 7th. He actually laughed very loudly for about 5 minutes and just kept saying "Wow" and "Are you serious?" Excuse me, but when has planning ahead ever been a bad thing? He seemed very put off and when I asked if I would be charged for the fuel spent on the crew to get to my apartment, he said "No...but I would be within my rights if I wanted to raise my price because you have already mentioned that the other companies are more expensive." He then said, I know you are not struggling on income if you live in Greenville so I have no problem with raising my rates." Feeling very angry and the need to defend myself I replied with, "I work three jobs, go to school, and I'm still barely able to get by every month." He said okay but I know you're paying no less than $800-$900 a month on rent." When I tried to answer back he cut me off and said "This is a waste of my time because your are not a paying customer and you can call back when you are ready to move." He then hung up on me. What I had tried to say, before he so rudely hung up on me was that I pay half of what he claimed I paid on rent because I live with a roommate. Even if he was right, that shouldn't matter and doesn't give him the right to be rude and insult his customers. Completely shocked and agitated I called back and said, "I think you hung up on me and I don't understand why you are being so rude to me when I am the customer." He said,"Yeah I thought we were done. You aren't moving and you aren't a customer because you're not paying for anything. Bye." He hung up again. This company was $50 cheaper than the next competing company but I don't care. I would never in my life do business with someone as rude as this man was. I can't believe he hasn't gone out of business if that is how he talks to his customers. This man is disrespectful, condescending, impolite, rude, and a huge asshole. Contacted Ed with Upstate movers last week in hopes of finding a minority owned company to do business with during our office move. Even after reading previous reviews, I contacted him and he seemed very professional and polite. We called back to set up a time for him to come out to the office to give an estimate, HE set the date and time. Nearly 10 minutes after he was suppose to arrive on said date and time, no Ed, no call, no text. I called to check that he was still coming. All he could tell me was that he apologized but that no he would not be coming something had come up and that he was sorry he didn't call me earlier (as if he had just called me then....wrong, I called you sir.) He did not provide another day or time to come out simply kept saying that he wasn't coming today as planned. After reading reviews, I understand other customer's frustrations. If you cannot be depended upon to even show up as scheduled for a quote, how on earth could we expect you to show up as scheduled for the actual move?
