I came in with a pen/ink memorial art project, 11"x7", was going to do it on cardstock and was…read morehoping to run like 20 of them. spoke with the main operator there and I assumed my project was too small for a company that can obviously handle substantial commercial print jobs; they do anything from corporate brochures to huge signs for outdoor gear stores. they said they would do it, though. they also suggested switching from cardstock to foamcore, and they can print directly onto the foamcore, and cut to size automatically. they even helped clean up my artwork! it came out fantastic. the ink is like, 3D embossed on the foamcore, and the colors are absolutely spot on. I took a closeup photo to show off the detail but Yelp couldn't handle it. they must be broke and out of server space. super helpful folks! if you have print jobs, big or small, give them a call. (sorry didn't mean that to rhyme)

Just finished a print brochure for a client here and it turned out great. The project got put on…read morethe big 4 color Heidelberg press. The thing is as big as a freakin' train but is run by only one dude. Marissa gave us an impromptu tour of the production space on the press check and the warehouse is huge! There was enough space to park a 747 jumbo jet inside. They have been putting a lot of effort into upgrading all the machines to Heidelberg models and they are very proud of them. I can't argue with the quality because the color and layered cover images came out very well. I was most impressed with their willingness and ability to answer our gazillion questions and requests to make sure this project went smooth. From short timeline to shipping to custom gate fold, it went well. Client is happy, we are happy.

There's a strange phenomena in the architecture world involving the anxiety of printing and…read moreplotting drawings. Somewhere between CMYK meeting RGB and dpi meeting canvas size, the painstaking process of plotting photoshop and indesign files is enough to turn any mild mannered designer into what I can only describe as a pseudo bride-zilla monster. Add in the stress of it being a 50 - 80 square foot thesis presentation poster and multiply it by about 20 students, the horror is enough to send most running in the opposite direction. Far, far away from the mob of incoherent babble about line-weight and opacity levels. Enter Ford Graphics, who not only stepped up to the plate to help my classmates and I out, but made sure our work looked as professional as any design firm in town. They put together a package for us that included test printing, plotting, mounting our posters on foamcore, and delivering them to school before our final reviews. Everything was done with the grace and professionalism one looks for when working with a company. Fast turn around and prompt replies when panicked questions were called in only added to my overall impression of the place. Tucked away deep in NW Portland, they can be a bit of a challenge to find, but well worth the search. Because for architects, the reality is that simple pieces of paper are a big deal... they hold the images of our imagination. And true shops like Ford know you can't deny that reality... or the CMYK color model it employs.

Architecture and design geeks, relax: this is your place. As Jenny C. says in her review, they…read moreunderstand how important details as minute as pixels are to us. I come to ARC even if all I need is a letter-sized, black & white, résumé printed, and I would go to them for presentation posters without a second thought.

It was nearly impossible to find anyone that could show you a sample of basic cream paper or paper texture or weights. They all had scraps of this and that. One guy would not even get up from his chair to help me at the desk. When I walked into Paperjam Press, a half hour from where I live. It was like I arrived. Cute store, actual samples to choose from. Highly organized. Friendly. Moderate prices. Delivered everything they said they would do. Answered the phone! Answered every email. Outstanding in every single way. I would never go anywhere else and I can say more professional than any other printer I visited in person. They even put my small order in this tidy box. This is where you need to go for the best service and total satisfaction of the finished product and outstanding customer service.

Located on a cute section of Fremont, there are only two parking spots out front with additional free street parking nearby. Though it's a small shop, visibility to the customer area in the front isn't great, so sometimes when they're busy they don't see you right away and you have to speak up. They've been quick to respond to emails, and have a decent turnaround time regularly, with the option for a ~$25 rush fee for same-day printing. Automatic notifications go out when your order is ready for pickup. Quality has been good on the color flyers and postcards I've had printed, and I'll be looking to do a few poster boards soon so I'm hopeful those will turn out great.
