The pub isn't big but it aims high for customer satisfaction and value for money. Service is excellent (though be advised that if you are eating outside - on the deck or under the gazebos, you will need to order at the bar for all drinks, meals etc. All the girls / ladies there are helpful and considerate. The biggest surprise is the menu which features 20+ parmas - which are done to perfection.... and the desserts are often eye-popping and taste amazing. If you haven't been to Warburton, you should definitely check it out. It's not far from Melbourne and it's very green and peaceful, with nice little day walks you can do. Oscar's is just off the highway right before you come into town (if you're driving from Melbourne) and it has a big lovely wooden deck overlooking the Yarra river (which, shockingly enough, is actually pretty in these parts!) Oscar's feels like a genteel old house with very understated elegance -- I liked its creaky but brightly-polished wood floors and chandeliers. I had a peek in the dining room and although it looks a little dated with a drab striped carpet, I think the rest of the place makes up for it. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Warburton, even if you're just wanting a quiet coffee or tea with a nice view of the river in a tranquil setting.

The cafe has a selection of small meals, but most people go here for the coffee and what I like to call the "Lycra ambience" -- one of those post-ride cafes where you look totally normal in your ridiculous cycling gear, clomping around in your clip-in shoes, simply because everyone else is too. However, non-cyclists are welcome too. Warburton is a cute little town with green hills and bubbling creeks and rivers, well worth a visit from Melbourne, and there are plenty of tourists who make the journey. I had the falafel wrap -- it's vegan as long as you ask for no tzaziki. It wasn't your usual grease-soaked kebab shop falafel wrap either -- it was very light and healthy-tasting, which I appreciated because I had just completed the Warburton Half Marathon, and stomachs in bodies that have just run 21.1k do not really appreciate grease. They also offer vegan cakes, which is awesome, although I didn't try one. Service is the only thing that really needs to be improved. While most of the ladies working there were very nice, they seemed kinda generally confused about which orders needed to be delivered where. But my biggest complaint was that everything was SO SLOW. Our two small meals took close to 45 minutes to be delivered. I realize it's a sunny Sunday and therefore insanely busy, but I think they're crazy understaffed because there's no way our food should've taken that long to prepare. When you've just run 21k (or cycled 40k), you are generally ravenous and want your food within a reasonable (I.e., 20 minutes or less) timeframe. Maybe they should put more cooks on the weekend shift or something, I don't know. Aside from the long unpleasant wait, this is a cute, reasonably healthy little cafe that I would definitely recommend. For the cyclists, note there's a bike shed attached to the cafe if you need any repairs (or want to buy or rent a bike or any cycling gear).

The meat lovers pizza was nice but (see photo) would you call this a meat lovers? How long does putting ingredients on a pizza to sit in an oven take?? We waited some more for my wife's meal. My wife has dairy and wheat intolerances, so asked for no dairy on her bread (cheese and butter) but out came butter on her gluten free bread. We waited another 15 minutes and asked the waitress about the food. My wife finally got her meal at 4pm and I had finished my pizza. We totally understand that it is a busy time of year, but they need to tell customers how long they expect to wait so people can decide to wait or leave. Also, Just having the one chef is totally unacceptable during the Christmas season. 10% surcharge to pay for their staff. My friendly advice is don't open next time. One star for a really nice waitress and for not needing to pay for my wife's lunch, but dont come to Riverview.
