In order to be the most successful athlete, you need to maximize your RECOVERY. So I went to Hanover Massage while we were training for a few weeks out of Darmouth on the Conneticut River. Julie Bean was my massage therapist for a 50minute massage. I have never felt better coming out of the massage. I slept like a charm and the next day of training I felt so relaxed. My performance was much easier to achieve thanks to her massage. When my muscles get tight from working too hard (and especially in sweep rowing, working too hard on one side), they get tight and tense, making it a lot more challenging to row correctly and efficiently. I could row and move so much more fluidly after the massage. Thanks to my training I've seen a good number of massage therapists across the country (including at the Olympic Training Center), and I was SHOCKED how AMAZING I felt after Julie's work. She wanted a massage so we checked out Joe. My wife has gotten massages from Tokyo to Thailand to NYC to Rome and this was one of the if not the best massage she has ever had. Not only did Joe relieve her muscle pain but he also realized that a past surgery was impeding her mobility in her neck and she found instant release. I…read moredon't have to wait months to get an appointment, which was one of the main reasons I chose this facility. The entire staff is very friendly and welcoming. Also, the wait time has always been less than ten minutes for me. My doctor is Dr. Suzanne Shipman. She's incredibly compassionate and helpful, and is straight-forward with answering my questions. I feel comfortable discussing my health problems with her and I know she won't laugh at me or judge the things I say. Dr. Shipman, along with all the nurses that I've interacted with, really seem to put me at ease, since I can get a bit nervous whenever I see a doctor. I get the impression that everyone here genuinely cares for people. You aren't just a symptom or diagnosis. You're a person with a story who needs their help. Also, I can tell that the doctors and nurses really want to help the patients they're seeing, which is great considering I've had some doctors in the past that don't really care about you or your problems. Additionally, I had to go into the main building and get some blood drawn for labs. The lab techs were very understanding of the fact that I generally don't "do well" with getting my blood drawn (i.e. I faint). They kept me distracted during the blood draw, which wasn't horribly painful, and didn't immediately kick me out afterward even though they had people waiting.
