7/2/16 - we had the whole froggy pool!
    Erin K.

I called the morning of 7/2/16, to ask many questions and the teenage boy who answered did a good job of answering them (the website was inadequate and confusing). He suggested I stop by later that day to have a tour and ask any additional questions. My husband and I took our newborn and three year old that afternoon and when we arrived several other people were interested in tours and memberships. Unfortunately, they didn't have enough employees to give tours. I thought it was odd that on a holiday weekend at the beginning of the summer season they wouldn't have people available to give tours to perspective members. I asked if we could go check out the outdoor pools since that is what we were interested in utilizing and we had clothes on so obviously we weren't going to jump in. The lady wouldn't let us and she told us we had to become a member to check out the pools. I can't say she was especially friendly about the situation. Most people wouldn't sign a contract without doing their due diligence first. With our corporate discount the monthly membership is $109 and the joiner fee is waived. Since we had already ventured out we decided to just join UMLY and worse case cancel our membership if we didn't like the outdoor pools. We went later that day after going home to suit up and again on July 4. The pools were deserted. I've been to the pools twice since with my kids. During the weekdays there are tons of camp kids and the pools are quite crowded. After seeing how zombie-like a lot of the camp counselors are I can say my kids will most likely never go to camp there! We can visit the other Ys in the Brandywine network; however, none of them have great kids outdoor pools. It stinks we can't use any Y (such as the Royersford outdoor pool or the WC outdoor pool). I don't know if we'll keep our membership after the summer. I haven't heard great things about their work out classes or gym and $109 is a lot of money to spend a month. We may just join during the summer months to use the outdoor pools while our kids are young. I hadn't been to UMLY in many years but overall I am not blown away. The landscaping outside is lacking and it could really use some TLC. The outdoor pool area smells strongly like chlorine and the water is very murky. Kind of skeeved me out... Today when we were at the froggy pool there was water squirting out of a tube near the lifeguard stand and it was obviously an issue. The lifeguard seemed distracted by it and wasn't giving 100% to watching the swimmers. Ultimately, the froggy pool is meeting our needs for our three year old this summer.

My only feedback is that they need to have better yoga and cycling teachers. This means that the teachers should be engaging and supporting; at the very least, smiling at each member and making them feel like they belong in the class. We need the instructors to improve and be more engaging. Like previous Life Time Wayne yoga teachers: Caitlin and Amy. Also, the music can be too loud in the workout floors and in the locker rooms at night. Everyone has earbuds in anyways, so why blast the music?? Looking forward to the improvements.

My biggest frustration is that management simply does not listen to member feedback. When you raise a concern or complaint, it falls on deaf ears -- and it doesn't get better as you go up the chain. I've tried addressing issues with staff, then escalated to higher-level management, and the response has been the same at every level: indifference. There's no acknowledgment of the problem, no follow-up, and certainly no effort to make things right. It feels like complaints go into a black hole. For the premium pricing Lifetime charges, you'd expect a baseline level of professionalism and responsiveness. Instead, the entire management team seems untrained in even the most basic principles of customer service -- active listening, accountability, and follow-through. A facility is only as good as the people running it, and right now, this location is being let down by leadership that doesn't seem to value the members who keep it running. I'd encourage the management team at this location to invest in some real customer service training, because what they're doing now isn't working.

We actually look forward to heading straight from work to class 3x/week, where there is a intimate and supportive group of members waiting to train alongside us. The owners/trainers, Chuck and Christina, lead great strength or conditioning classes that are safe, accomodating to our goals and needs, and a helluva workout. These things are invaluable to us, and Chuck and Christina offer them for a very reasonable price! And better yet, there is a pretty even amount of men and women members (at all ages too), making this a very diverse, woman-friendly, and non-intimidating environment for all to work in- something that's hard to come by these days. You gotta understand, we are not the pumping iron sort of people. What's most alluring to us about this gym is a tight-knit community you become a part of. I find myself in Yoga a few days a week - the studio is beautiful and the mild heat is welcome in these bitterly cold winter months! I recommend Kristy's Wall class for a great deep stretch and Sarah's Power Flow for the ultimate mind/body stress relief! I accidentally book a class and when I noticed I went to cancel it. The class was at 6:30am the very next day outside of the 12hr window, and I had cancelled it way in advanced the same day I booked. Well they cancelled all the classes I had booked. Which for me means they also cancelled the alarms I have to wake up associated for it, so rescheduling wasn't able to happen again for a while on my end, because of how my days have been structured plus I had a vacation. so I called today excited and ready to get back on my regimen, and then when she answered the phone, I believe her name was Mary. I gave her the needed card information and was ready to rebook. Then all the sudden she starts going we need to charge you for the class you didn't show up for. Then I went on to explain it wasn't a no show it was an accidental booking on my end that I cancelled prior to the class starting. Instead of going oh okay to move forward we just have to pay the $12 for booking and canceling within the 12hr window and then we will be good to go. She goes into her little system and proceeds to ARGUE with me about my perception of what happened, and was like we have been trying to call you. and you haven't talked to us. I told her I am talking to them now, and that due to the way my schedule is there wasn't time for me to get back to them then. (context I typically work 6 days a week from 9am - 11pm). ( i did not share this with her because she was so rude and accusatory) Instead of being empathetic, and forward focused, she for whatever reason decided to continue arguing and say phrases such as "my day is very busy too" and well "you didn't answer us" "I'm looking at my time punches and it says you booked at 6pm and didn't cancel until 12am" ( to my memo isn't what happened, but at this point it's still a 6 and half hour notice, for a class that wasn't anywhere near fully booked) All that to say I was so turned off, and annoyed by the way she represented this location I would just cancel my membership all together if this was my home studio. Feel so bad for the members who attend there and for whatever reason have life happen. Because that lady lacks any people and conflict resolution skills. Genuinely hope someone helps her figure out it's not about being right, it's about the situation and how you move forward.
