We recently hosted a fitness-oriented speed dating event and couldn't have asked for a better partner than @UpFitTrainingAcademy. Their team was instrumental in every step of the process, from coordinating and organizing the fitness challenge to ensuring a seamless transition into the speed dating portion. The event was a huge success, thanks in large part to their exceptional planning and the amazing sponsored goodies we were able to provide in our goodie bags. The energy was incredible, and it was clear that everyone had a great time. Singles events: @nycbaematch read more

Small but clean studio located in the city. Had a 20-minute phone consultation with Westley on pricing, assessments, and fitness goals. The transaction went smoothly and then he had me fill out a 2-part questionnaire and then sign my name. The assessment was $99 including a 1-minute tour of the studio, 40min talk therapy, 2 mins body scale/measurements, then a 10mins mini workout on an air bike, planks, squats, and stretching. My trainer was Brian, and he was great to work with but I felt some of the questions he was asking me about my goals were a repeat of what I have already filled out in the questionnaire. There were some questions that was slightly different but they seemed redundant. If I knew the assessment involved 40-minutes talk therapy I wouldn't have signed up! I have never heard of a place where they charge you for a trial. But I have also checked out other studio places where they don't even offer any trials and expect you to buy their package and pay upfront. No thanks. On a final note, even though it was a 10min mini workout, I actually left feeling sore (for sure!) for three days. So I give it 4 stars for a pretty good workout (or the soreness came from being out of shape for so long and leading a sedentary lifestyle) I would not have gotten if I went to a gym and did cardio. This place is expensive. Like two arms and a half a leg with some toes. Sadly this place wasn't for me, location and cost but maybe it is for you! If you want to workout with a trainer and get some eye candy, there is that too! lol read more

The 5:1 classes here are structured In a way that you can get the attention of a knowledgeable trainer while also tapping into the community of others on their fitness journey. I've been here for almost a year and it's completely shifted my mindset about training. Highly recommend if you are serious about getting fit! read more

I've worked out at several gyms before but nothing like UpFit Training Academy! They customize your workouts to your needs and they make working out fun! Paul and Brian were excellent and extremely knowledgeable. If you're worried about going to the gym during covid- they're extremely clean. Very socially distanced with only 5 members in the gym at once. The equipment is sanitized after each use and temperature checks upon entering. read more

Amazing, friendly and professional. They know how to incorporate my injury into exercise rehab. Their precise nutrition program is also sustainable. Great community for someone looking for a long term lifestyle change! read more

Wes is one of two UpFit Training Academy founders. I've known Wes for almost 9 years now - he is the best trainer I know. If you are serious about your fitness goals, he is someone who will take you seriously too. How do I start...I've been wanting to write a review for months but didn't want to rush it because I had to do this one right. I met Wes when he was the head trainer at Crunch. I was in my late 20s, fit, attended classes regularly, was part of my highschool swim team, college diving team, danced competitively, didn't have any weight loss goals and certainly did not think I needed a trainer. Long story short, I was convinced to try personal training and met Wes. I was reluctant and skeptical. I ask a lot of questions and am quick to sense hesitation and lack of knowledge. I am one of those people! (This is how I ended up with Wes/HEAD trainer at Crunch and not the first trainer who I was assigned to, who failed my unintentional screening.) Meeting Wes changed my life. I was also one of those misinformed people, who didn't want to gain muscle because it would make me look "big" - in fact I got smaller and stronger. Who thought I would never in my lifetime do toe pushups - my second session with him I did 5. Who thought sugar was better than fat - I was so wrong. Everything up to now seemed to work fine for me, so why change. (I was 110lbs and 5'3''.) I had 10 sessions with him, once a week, used weights, and for the first time had a hint of abs where I never thought I would see them. Getting abs wasn't even a goal. I just wanted to be a better version of myself and I was in the best shape of my life! We've remained friends since. Not only was he a stellar trainer, keeping it creative and tailored to my needs, but I found he was a genuine individual; a truly caring and concerned listener. Positive and optimistic. Knowledgeable too (check out his qualifications!). Compassionate as well. I could tell he loves what he does, understands the body, and gave a killer stretch session after each workout. I've referred my cousins and close friends. Wes really sets the standard high for all other trainers after him - I have since left the U.S. but always make sure to pay him a visit each time I'm back. If Upfit is a translation of Wes' vision, you can't go wrong sticking with his program. I'm not saying it's all easy, in fact it's the hardest I had worked, but so it should be. I have since left regular "just for fun" gym classes (not saying they're bad), but go to HIIT classes and aim for strength building. I like to see results. Over the last decade I have watched him set goals for his own life and every step of the way he has reached them. It is amazing and inspiring. I am so excited that he now has Upfit. I am a fan from half way around the world! P.S. I also coach gym classes now, part time. I don't believe I would be doing this if I hadn't met Wes, who changed my perception on trainers, and what quality training means. read more

I've been going to UpFit since the beginning of 2022 and it's been an amazing journey. Originally I was introduced to Upfit to get ready for my wedding. But my experience with the team was so positive that I decided to continue going 2 times a week after my big occasion. UpFit is unique in that it is community oriented. All the trainers know your name and truly care about your well being. The exercises are intentional and the coaches try their best to help you meet your goals. Their nutritional advice was also extremely helpful when it came to figuring out a healthy lifestyle. I just tried kickboxing with Wes for the first time today and it was fantastic and most importantly so fun. UpFit is the most unique small training gym that I've ever been to. Hurting from other group classes or tired of running on the treadmill? Look no further. It's always so impressive to get so much out of a focused one hour class instead of jogging for hours in the past. Health truly is wealth and I wish more people will learn that fitness is not just for weight loss or body image. It's about preventing pain and working weak muscles that we rarely strengthen in our day to day lives. UpFit cares about form and preventing pain. I cannot recommend this facility enough. read more

I truly love this gym. I joined back in July and have truly enjoyed every minute. Each coach has their own style but they are all very knowledgeable and care about your continual improvement and form. The coaches create workout plans for you and follow up with you to see how you're progressing etc. additionally, they offer strategy calls where you can discuss your goals and how to achieve them. This gym is a little family - you start getting to know your classmates and the coaches and connect with them on a different level. The other members are incredibly supportive and encouraging. I cannot say how many times I was ready to give up on a set and I hear someone yell out that I got this and am doing great. That support is hard to come by. Also, the owners and staff strive to make it feel like a community - they get to know the members and create opportunities for members to get together and spend time with one another. We just had a holiday party which was super fun. They even gave out awards! It was an incredibly awesome way to round out the year. A lot of people have been going to this gym for years - which speaks volumes. I highly highly recommend UpFit. Come give it a shot, guaranteed you won't regret it! read more

UpFit Training Academy is life changing. Until 6 weeks ago I hated gyms and never was able to commit. But Wes and Paul were able to make me love to exercise. I lost several inches in 6 weeks and I got so much stronger. The workout is amazing. You have individual attention so you never make a wrong move. You can feel your body transforming. I am a 45 years old mom and I feel I can do anything. The facilities are super clean and you have everything you need to work out. I highly recommend UpFit Training Academy. read more

Before baby and life happened, I worked out and even had a trainer. After not feeling like myself for almost 7 years, Wes & Paul reminded me of my potential. The attention to detail and the encouragement they give is exactly what I needed to get my weight in check and continue my journey back to being fit and healthy. Why here and not elsewhere? You're just another client at other gyms. When you walk through Upfit's doors, you feel like you're returning to friends and people who genuinely care about your well being. But don't take my word for it, come see for yourself and you won't be disappointed!!! read more

I came here following a back surgery looking to get back into the lifting game and they brought be back and more. Highly suggest!

I completed my 6 week challenge and feel so much better. Both Wes and Paul are amazing! They were patient with me as I learned proper technique and built up my stamina. They don't mess around, you are there to work hard and see results. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to change how they look and feel. read more

I've been gaining weight and dieting repeatedly all my life, and always struggled to keep working out regularly because I had poor forms and couldn't lift heavy weights without injuring myself. I decided it was time to get some professional help, and it has been a life changing experience training here with Wes, Paul, Regina and Brian for the past 3 months. I've already lost 2.5 inches off my waist and have gotten much stronger on all of my lifts. I plan to keep training with them for as long as I live in NYC. They individualize your training sessions according to your goals, and adjust them as you progress. TBH, the first 1-2 months were extremely brutal because I was so out of shape after a year of staying home due to the pandemic, but now my mental & physical toughness have improved so much that I somehow wake up at 5:30AM to go train with these guys at 6 AM 3 times a week and feel super energized afterwards (I've never considered myself a morning person before). They will keep increasing your workout intensity to make sure you continue improving, which means workouts will never get easy. But they push & support you the right way and you can get so much out of this place as long as you put in the work and keep communicating with them in terms of what you are working towards, what you are struggling with, etc. Small group dynamic is also nice b/c sometimes just having other people around you who are also pushing hard is enough to get you over the especially difficult sets. read more

I started training with Wes a liitle bit more than a year ago and I must say that I am totally different person from then - in a good way of course :). In the past I had been exercising by myself (taking classes, jogging, etc) but have never results like this! I started weightlifting and he guided me through the process - he paid attention to every movement making sure I had the correct form so I didn't injure myself, after that increasing the weight or repetitions. He knows exactly which are my limits and he knows when to push harder - I kind of hate that sometimes lol! I feel stronger capable of doing stuff I could have never imagined! My lifestyle has entirely changed and training has become a priority and I feel great! I would totally recommend him! read more

Paul and Wes have amazing energy and are always keeping their clients challenged. I know from personal experience training with Paul especially. I have worked out with many trainers and every time I went back to Paul! He produces real changes in your figure quickly, and seeing is believing! Not to mention I felt like with other trainers I was just going through the reps and the same motions. But with Paul it was always something new, more challenging and more interesting. For someone who gets bored easily when they workout, I can definitely say Paul had the cure for that! Try him out and you WONT be dissappointed. In fact you'll be addicted! read more

I was one of those guys that never did legs till 8 years ago when I met Wes. Since then, I've been training on and off throughout the years and he's influenced a massive change in every area of my life from fitness, to diet, recovery, and work-life balance. Now at 38, growing my own business, married, and with a 2 year old, I'm in the best shape of my adult life and owe a lot of that to him. Most recently, we worked with Ryan, one of the physical therapists in his network to troubleshoot pain I was experiencing from a torn labrum in my shoulder from my teenage years. We all worked together to devise a training and rehab strategy and after 4 weeks, I'm pain free, stronger than ever, and more educated and aware of my body and how it should be moving. To anyone on the fence about getting started, don't hesitate. He and Paul are great guys, smart, love what they do, and always go the extra mile. With their level of expertise, results are guaranteed. read more

Wes is one of the most knowledgeable and creative trainers with whom I have ever worked. As someone currently working in the Health Profession, I have met many trainers who can craft a good workout but lack a thorough understanding of body bio mechanics and what to do if your client has anatomical restrictions. Wes noticed my ROM issues right away and had no problem working with them. Wes' varied fitness background means that he has worked with all fitness levels and abilities. For example, I'm currently working to gain strength and am only able to train at a time when he has other clients present, clients who are significantly better conditioned than me. This would be a train wreck for a more novice trainer, but Wes is a pro and arranges the session so everyone reaches their peak training range. I don't know how he makes it work so smoothly, and I don't need to know. It's magic and it's working! read more

Love Upfit Academy! Paul and Westley are really dedicated trainers and really care about catering a specific program for each client so even though they're small group classes it basically feels like a personal training session. Classes were between 1-4 people when I was taking and it never felt crowded. Nice new studio with new equipment and shower facilities. read more

The instructors here are so knowledgeable, they can spot these minute, almost invisible details in your form, and give you tips on doing it more efficiently. I was blown away when I was told to bridge differently by activating certain muscles, and I was able to feel the increase in power immediately. The instructors are very mindful of all the members forms during each movement, and that is super helpful. Each workout is tailored specifically to the member! And they keep track of your progress so you know you are always improving. The facility is always spotless and well organized, and it's located near penn station which is very convenient for commuters. All the members I have met have been very welcoming and encouraging. Overall it's a great place to train, I can think of literally no reason to not come here and work your butt off! read more

I started training with Wes 8 years ago, right after I had knee surgery. My main goal was to have strong legs and stay injury free. With his guidance, I've been able to continue enjoying my physical activities. Training has been part of my life for over twenty years and Wes was the first trainer I encountered that knew how to dance the line of my limits, while making each session fun and fresh. read more

I'm beyond impressed by the professionalism, knowledge and dedication of both Westley and Paul. I have worked with trainers in the past but none have showed me the attention and care that these guys have. They truly show concern for your well-being while also helping you work toward your goals. Highly, highly recommend if you want trainers that are willing to educate you and treats you as a person not a number. read more

Wes is a knowledgable and careful trainer, excellent at customizing a workout routine to the right level to get results while working around occasional injuries etc. He's also a nice, low-key guy and fun to chat with along the way. I'm not an athlete, just someone who's looking to counter the sedentary NY lifestyle, and Wes helped get me into the best shape I've been in in years. And Paul is great too - though I usually work with Wes, everything I said about Wes goes for Paul as well. You can't do better than to hook up with these guys. One more note - they've just moved in to their new space, which they designed to their spec and is awesome - from the main space to the bathrooms, it feels more like a spa than a gym. An all-around high-end experience. read more

Westley is definitely knowledgeable and super helpful. He is very honest but will definitely motivate you and push you. Highly recommend him and hope to take more of his classes in the future. read more

Paul park was my personal trainer from 2009, I've been hooked on exercising and weight lifting ever since. He is extremely knowledgeable about weight lifting, dieting and overall health. He is into basic fundamentals and fine details of weight lifting. I've personally learned a lot from him and kept me motivated til this day. I strongly encourage anyone who wants to be more fit, more agile, and healthy to get with Paul and start working your butt off. read more

Paul is an amazing trainer! He is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition. He accommodates the needs of every different individual. Paul has been doing this for over 10 years and really knows his stuff very well. I am a lawyer & mother with three active little boys, so I used to be always tired and have low energy. However, since I started to work out with Paul, I have been feeling happier and gaining a lot of energy. Also Paul is a very patient trainer. Even though I keep forgetting some exercise position or doing it in the wrong way, he patiently fixes it and motivates me. It is simply fun to exercise with him. I have lost weight and gain more muscle mass and strength, while training just 1 or 2 times a week with Paul. If you are looking for a trainer, just go for Paul!. He will help you get in shape with great workouts and smart diet guidelines! read more

I first met Wes in the gym, seeing him train other people. At the time, I was just running, never lifting weights and knew nothing about working out in general. I decided to train with Wes after I wasn't seeing any changes on my own. He did an assessment session with me and saw where I was at, physically and mentally, and asked me what I wanted to achieve. He personalized my workout to my body type and my goals. He is super knowledgeable and really does it in a safe way that you never feel like you are going to injure yourself, which is so important when working out. I would 100% recommend him and UpFit academy to anyone that is looking for a change in their body and also an change in their attitude towards working out. I now love going to the gym and have seen significant changes! Do yourself a favor and work out with them! read more

I started my weight loss journey at 250 pounds and have worked with dozens of medical and fitness specialists over the past 3 years to finally bring my weight down to now a manageable 170 pounds. Working with Wes and Paul has been instrumental in changing my entire outlook regarding training, diet, and lifestyle and I owe them so much! I've had other trainers before who claim to be experts but seem to focus more on their phones and social media following rather than helping me get results. These guys are the real deal and I'd recommend who is looking for REAL coaches who care and go the extra mile to contact them and sign up for a trial. They go above and beyond to make sure I'm happy while progressively pushing me towards my goals and I'm so glad that I found them!! read more

I started training with Wes about 9 months ago and it was the best decision I have ever made! I've been on many diets, exercise programs and have had personal trainers in the past but NOTHING at all compares to results I have achieved in training with Wes. I dropped 60 lbs since training with him and in the best shape I have been in over 15 years. I have also gained so much more than just weight loss as he has helped to bring focus and balance in my life with his constant support. He challenges me to push beyond what I think my limits are. He has guided me through heavy lifting and running both of which I never did in the my many years of exercising! I am always still amazed at how far I have come from where I started. Wes is also extremely knowledge in nutrition, anatomy of the body, up-to-date exercise techniques as well ensuring that his workouts are customized to your needs and achieving your goals. I look forward to continue my journey training with Wes. Highly recommend! read more

I hit at a low earlier this year and found myself at the most unhealthiest place I have ever been both physically and mentally. A friend recommended that I reach out to Wes and my life has never been the same. I have been on countless programs before...I would make progress and then go back to my bad habits. Wes has given me the structure and encouragement to build a fitness routine that garners physical results but also keeps me engaged and motivated to keep moving forward. Wes pushes me...but he does it in a way that truly empowers me to make a lasting change within myself. I highly recommend Wes and the UpFit Training Academy team as they are extremely knowledgeable, results focused and genuinely care about the well being of each client. read more

About 9 months into training with Upfit, I can truly see what makes Wes and Paul's product so much different. Having worked with personal trainers before, I was expecting a similiar experience, with some gains up front, going through the motions with my usual excercises, avoiding weaker areas of my body and generally treating the gym as a chore. But from Day 1 with Upfit, it was clear Wes and Paul had a better plan. Like many guys in their mid 30s, who spend the day cramped over a desk and computer, I struggled with posture, leg and hip strength and flexibility, and tightness in my hamstrings and back. Rather than avoid, we attacked these areas, through a full body focused regiment, aiming to bring out the undiscovered strength I had in those parts of the body. With Wes and Paul's measured, long term, but intense approach, I no longer think of my hips, back and legs are weak points, but as the foundation for any goals I might have in the gym. Whatever your situation is walking in, or what your goals are, Upfit has the plan for you and the experience to get you there ! read more
