Biggie Blue Eyes
Mimi P.

At first, we weren't sure of taking this tour, but we are so glad we did. It was a fantastic tour, and we had a wonderful tour guide, Biggie Blue Eyes. He was funny, entertaining and full of Chicago history. We appreciate his humor, experience and knowledge. He engaged with everyone on the tour. We learned so much about the original gangsters like the infamous Al Capone, Dion O'Banion, John Dillinger, George "Bugs" Moran, and "Diamond Jim" Colosimo and many more. We have heard and watched movies about these incredible characters, but to see the places they lived and made history is a treat. I highly recommend this tour especially with Biggie Blue Eyes as a your guide. The bonus is you get to learn about various neighborhoods in Chicago, like Chinatown, Lincoln Park, and Pilsen. He will also point wonderful landmarks within the city.

Pretty cool bus tour

Tour meets outside of rock & roll McDonalds on Clark. The tour left promptly on time. Our bus was half full. The tour showed us several areas in Chicago and we learned about the gangster history of this city. Overall 3.5 stars. The mic on the tour kept going out towards the end.

Marie was phenomenal! Her humor and knowledge of the city was appreciated by the entire bus load of people. We HIGHLY recommend taking this tour!

So many locations where criminal activity occurred

All of our family that came to Chicago for my godchild's wedding reception left before noon on the next day. Hubby and I found ourselves wanting something to get out and do. It has rained all morning and we weren't sure how long it was going to continue so we opted for an activity where we would be protected from the elements. If you've been to Chicago, you know there are probably a million things that you can do that are fun and exciting! Since I am convinced that there was mafia in my family history, this crime tour really peaked my interest. It was a tour and it was on a very nice bus that was comfortable and had plenty of hook ups for phones etc. in case you wanted to be able to charge to take pictures . It was also one of the tours that was advertised as funny with the tour guide being well-versed in the criminal activities in the early 1900s all the way up to about the 1960s. Our tour guide was dressed for the role. He was extremely knowledgeable and witty. The tour lasted approximately two hours. It started at a place where we all met up and checked in. Most of us had gotten our tickets online but they were also available from our tour guide. Our bus Driver was also fantastic!! I'm not sure how he managed to drive around in the thick Chicago traffic. Kudos-kudos!!!! Our tour guide gave a lot of history, and many of the names were unfamiliar to me however, some of the biggest criminals and mobsters like Al Kapone- I had certainly heard of and read about. This review is not going to be full of detail because you need to experience it for yourself !! Our tour guide even had a little game planned at the end of a couple questions and answers with prizes. I felt he did everything possible to keep us entertained!! We definitely recommend it ! Why did we choose this crime tour???? as there are several.... This is one of the oldest and longest operating tours. We felt like we got a lot of bang for the buck !!!!

Why this tour: 1. Marie, the tour guide. - entertaining and knowledgeable. She made this tour fun! Loved how she stayed in character throughout the tour. 2. The crew - The tour guide and driver were professional and nice. They were on time. They were organized. After the tour, Marie answered tourist questions and made recommendations for other activities and restaurants. 3. Comfort on the bus. - Clean, comfortable seats. Did not smell on the bus. Air conditioned. 4. Location of pick up. - It was very convenient. We parked in a prepaid garage nearby. The pick up location was next to a McDonald's where you can use the restrooms, buy a drink, and stay cool inside before the tour. There are many restaurant options nearby.

We had a blast! Our guide was the best she was witty, put in a great show and we learned a lot! We learned her name is Katey and she absolutely made the tour! A super fun way to see the whole city and you get a lot of gangster and mob history.

I took my mom to Chicago for the first time and she loves a good crime show so I thought a gangster tour would be right up her alley. I did some research online to make sure I picked a good one, and one with a vehicle. I knew we would be walking the city a lot so I wanted to make sure we had a break from the chilly streets. It was easy to get my tickets online ahead of time and pick the date/time. There was a mix-up with my ticket and a tour a week earlier so the office called me to confirm my tickets - the lady on the phone was nice and explained the confusion, which didn't really affect my purchase. I only make note of this because otherwise I wouldn't have talked to the office and she was very nice and pleasant so I think that should be noted. We arrived at the pick-up location (which was moved slightly down the block but communicated well). *I also received a reminder text the night before* The guys were really fun and ready to get moving! We loaded up the bus, chatted a bit and were off! The whole tour is not only informative about the Chicago of the past, but they also throw in some current information and fun facts. We were able to see parts of the city we wouldn't have seen on our own and the whole experience is pretty interactive. The tour guides were AMAZING! So fun and funny, great (cheesy) jokes, silly sing-a-longs and lots of information. My mom LOVED it and we both had a really great time. I'd go again!

My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.

People in Amsterdam will also ask if you have done a canal boat tour - and you have to do these when you visit these cities. Our docent volunteer guide, Steve, was excellent. The boat staff was also hardworking and ready to help with any issues, from getting a drink at the boat's downstairs bar to handing out covers when the rain hit us. For what we paid, the 1.5 hour tour was more than worth it. I recommend sitting at the top towards the back, as you don't have to crane your neck as much when he points out places of interest. Not a must see or do attraction but a great day filler activity as you explore the city. Loved the wealth of information they offer as it's valuable to understand Chicagos importance from the ground up! I thought it would be more about highlighting the amazing architectural buildings around the city but nothing like that. It's was more about the environmental impact the city has and the hurdles when designing buildings around town. The staff were friendly at check in and provided great service overall as they were kind and helpful. Small center that you may explore at your own pace and may or may not be worth the admission price. Without asking me someone changed my tour ( I did not consent to this change) to Monday'; the museum is not open on Mondays. i was told this was a mistake but since I only went to see this museum this was a MONUMENTAL MISTAKE. I took off work, paid for their services and flew to Dubai for a specific reason. I did not get to see the museum, not because it was a holiday or it was under maintence but because some employee had no idea what they were doing. When I complained and asked for a partial refund since I did not get what I paid for, I was offered a free trip to Abu Dhabi when I come back to Dubai. This is unacceptable since i have no intention of returning to Dubai any time soon or know if I ever will. This is a very large company and while mistakes happen, the cost for me should not be so high. They screwed up a trip I carefully set up for my purpose due to incompetence and then refuse to accept responsibility. Be very careful in choosing this company for dream vacations because they could get messed up and then they will do nothing about it

There were some technical difficulties and the TV system on the bus ended up not working. Mr. Frank Calabrese Jr was very professional and good-humored about the situation. He offered everyone on the bus the opportunity to come back free of charge so that we may have the full experience with the photos he had been intending to show us. He proceeded to do the tour without the presentation, which honestly was great in itself. He is a very good story-teller, and had a great narrative. He had notes with him but only referenced them a few times to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything. Everything was super authentic and off the cuff. I loved that we went around Chicago and we were able to get glimpses of how the city was like in the 60s-90s. What made this tour so great was that these stories were first-hand. It didn't come from someone who spent hours studying the history; this was his real life. He was very genuine about his experiences, and his anecdote about his kids at the very end of the tour made me tear up a bit. He even invited us to stay for happy hour at the Chop House to have a drink with him to talk. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone, regardless of whether you know the mob history or not. I personally didn't know too much, and still was captivated by his stories. He does have a book (which I definitely intend to read) and a movie in the works!
