    Quack oasis

In Albuquerque, if it holds water, it encompasses a certain majesty. Forget water parks, lakes or swimming pools, Burqueños rock water old school. We know the splashy splash is for the birds. So say I as my knuckle scales crickety-crack and leave skin dust upon laptop keys. The Duck Pond holds endless fond memories from my days as a student, especially during the spring and fall, when the temperature was perfect for a sprawl out on a grassy hill, forgetting about tests, daydreaming girls. But this gentle space offers refuge for one and all; host to an endless procession of weddings, kids play on the rocks on the west end, lovers hold hands on benches, and proud alumni parents (me) point out turtles to our toddlers. Ducks, meanwhile, are typically far too spoiled to partake in your pithy crumbs. I love this little body of water and the zen that surrounds it.

Great free place for my kids to play, see some ducks, a fountain, and a waterfall. Very pretty, and you forget you're in the desert.

Some one recommended I come here to take a breather from the world the other day. It's odd how I don't often enjoy the silence in my home but I very much enjoy the comfort that surrounds me here at The Duck Pond. I've actually come here often for solitude. I enjoy the rolling green hills that surround me, the shade from the various trees and the fresh air. And I can't get enough of the sound of water as it flows down the waterfall or spouts up from the pond. Most often though I find myself mesmerized by the ducks. Watching the momma duck jump in the water with all her duckies following suit. It always takes me back to when I started calling my... kiddos... my 3-little duckies. Quite a few years back traveling in an airport on the east coast scrambling to catch our flight I glanced over my shoulders and watched them one by one following behind me with their small bodies with their little suitcases bobbing in and out of people hopping off and on the walkways... Making it safely to the plane as they followed me. For me a simple place like the duck pond floods me with memories that can never be taken away....and takes me back to those amazing days of the duckies just being well you know... little duckies. If you're needing to get away and clear your thoughts this is a nice relaxing place to start.

Was a cool experience but a little smaller than I expected. But I had fun, and the ducks were cool

Nice little spot amidst the hubbub to chill out. Wish there were more spots like this in Albuquerque.

The playground…read moreis big enough to maintain a kid's interest and enthusiasm for at least an hour, and there's plentiful seating in both shady and sunny spots. A birthday party would probably be a great success here, especially with supplemental kites or frisbees or other throwing things. The grassy field is sizable enough for kickball and other such terrain-sprawling sport. We had a compelling game of pine one ninja (think live-action fruit ninja, sub Dowel rods and pine cones). There's a quaint earthen walking path on the far side of the park that, I believe, leads to a pedestrian sidewalk passing over I40 and leading to the Winrock mall. There's also A bunch of well-maintained tennis courts, which I thought were for public use but appear to be restricted access... tennis club or something? I don't know for sure; better check with google on that. There's imposing chain link fences surrounding them, and while tunneling under may be difficult due to the asphalt and turf perimeter, you could probably climb them if you really wanted to play when the courts were closed. * Yelp does not condone criminal trespassing, and their views are not necessarily reflected in my satirical advice on circumventing restricted access. One star deducted because of bathroom access. There's one in that... tennis club?... building, but of course your bladder relief is then at the mercy of their hours of operation. Go play here. Just go pee first.

You…read moresee kids playing, adults having a talk and doing a picnic..and people walking their dogs. What I particularly love is that it has a very dog friendly vibe and I could take my dog for a walk steps from my home, knowing that it's a safe place for him and for me. The park is pretty clean. I think people who visit this park do a great job of cleaning up after themselves (minus a few dog poops that I saw around a park, which I hoped was due to unintentional unnotice of dog owners...and not intentionally leaving them there!). The park has both sand and grass area...they clean regularly (their trash is never full!) and provide free dog poop bags for those who forget to bring their own as well. The only drawback is that aside from a few big trees around a park, there's really not much shaded areas for you to hide from the heat. So, make sure you come when it's not 85F+ out. For me, since I live super close by...this temperature/no shade area isn't an issue for me. However, if you are walking from afar or driving here...maybe time it well so you or your loved ones (kids or dogs) don't get heat stroke!

There is a lot of fantastic park equipment for kids as well as plenty of grass and trees for ambiance. A lot of people love to walk their dogs here and it's a great place to do it! We really enjoy even just parking here and enjoying a quick bite together when we just have a few minutes between errands because it feels like a break from it all!
