I retained Matthew Swedick in October 2025 for representation in an active criminal matter, with…read morethe understanding that he would obtain transcripts and file appropriate motions, including a motion to dismiss. Despite payment of $2,500: * No written retainer agreement was ever provided * Transcripts were repeatedly delayed and not timely obtained * No motion to dismiss was filed, despite written assurances * Communication was inconsistent and at times contradictory I was specifically instructed not to contact the court directly, and all requests were to go through counsel. However, those requests were not acted upon, which prevented me from accessing the record needed to defend myself. At one point, I was informed via text that an "official" offer had been made by the District Attorney's Office, which was inconsistent with prior statements that no offer existed. This raised serious concerns about communication and authorization. This representation occurred during an active criminal case involving significant rights, and the lack of clarity, delay, and failure to act materially impacted my ability to proceed. I have since filed a formal complaint with the Attorney Grievance Committee.
