Gas station owner has a huge chip in his shoulder, extremely rude & very unprofessional. No one told you to go buy a gas station.

Having visited eight in the last week, from Auburn AL and Pass Christian MS and across Texas), it's easy to see how formulaic they are and how they all have the same features. Located adjacent to a busy highway exit, it's easy to access and they don't allow tractor trailers so you're not dodging big trucks. Huge expansive parking lot that rings the whole store. Dozens if not a hundred gas pumps, all clean and free of litter. Multiple entrances with handicapped parking immediately in front of each one. Inside, you'll probably get a "Welcome to Buc-ee's!" as you enter. As you walk around the store, you'll maybe here a shouted "Fresh brisket on the board!" as a new piece of beef is set out for slicing. In the center, a sandwich station where they're making up tacos and sandwiches. There's an area where they are candying nuts. A fudge counter. A jerky counter. A handmade tortilla station. Bunkers with snacks and fresher foods like salads, sandwiches, protein packs, cups of banana pudding and coconut pie. A wall of soda fountains with two dozen options. Coffee and fixings. A third of the store is consumed with decor. Some of it is very much Buc-ee's merchandise with tshirts, swimsuits, hats, jackets and the like. A seasonal tshirt on display. And much of it is Southern styled decor with the occasional bible quote or some other risque and double entendre. Clean restrooms. No, really. They pay a $40k a year salary to people to keep the floors clean, the counters wiped, the paper towels stocked and the toilets clean. I have never seen a dirty Buc-ee's toilet in ever. There a reason Buc-ee's is a destination and they're working to come closer to you. I've been to Buc-ee's in ten states and they're expanding with new ones in Colorado, Ohio and Arizona opening recently. Go check it out! [Review 411 of 2026 - 720 in Texas - 25594 overall]

We really wanted to buy as much craft beer as we could find and Howdy Doody did not disappoint. Why and how did we end up there? We called ahead and ordered a few meals from Mr. Chopsticks so we could eat on when we got home the next day. After we went through the drive thru, we parked and walked over to Howdy Doody to check out their selection. For a small store, their selection of craft beer is amazing!!! Definitely wasn't expecting the amount that they had! We checked out the "craft beer" store near UNT and their selection was disappointing in comparison. If you want craft beer, go to Howdy Doody!

Howdy Doody is a pretty rad convenience store (sans gas pumps) in our neighborhood. They have craft…read moreand local beers in cans and bottles, and a pretty great selection, too. Their beer prices are kind of high - for craft can 6 packs, we usually pay $10. That said, the prices are pretty comparable to the beer prices at Midway, and Howdy Doody is easier to get in and out of. They don't always have what I am looking for, but they always have something that I like (something I cannot say for the nearby 7-11) when it comes to beer. PokéStop next door at Chopsticks, and a gym across the street at the doctor's office. The employees here are always pretty chill - no one is particularly friendly and I've never seen an employee out from behind the counter, but they are always nice, fast, and get the job done without issue. Overall, if I have the time, I go elsewhere for beer, but only because of the price. Otherwise, this is a neat little c-store in a great location.

One star reviews come with a record. They aren't earned in a day…read more Housewares: way overpriced by probably almost double on average, and gathering lots of dust. Basics. Snacks: decent selection, based on local taste. Typical gas station prices. Mainly on-the-go foods. Gas: usually a little too much per gallon. Sometimes I've seen their gas tank lids open in the parking lot for a few days. 'Restaurant' food: uh, they have a little eating place but I've never even looked for more than half a minute. That doesn't really happen for me, especially if I'm at a convenience store buying snacks. I'll let that speak for itself. Tobacco: pretty good selection, again, closely related to local shifts in the semesters as people move in/out. There's a trick to this place if you MUST go. The night-shift clerk is younger and much nicer. The day-shift clerk is pretty openly rude about ridiculously small issues, laughing directly At me about dropping my phone in the road on one occasion, and on another day, demanding I buy more of his products. He did not say "there is a purchase limit you're under." He said "go buy another one," and when I calmly protested he got aggressive. I immediately abandoned my would-be purchases and told him I don't need any of it. This apparently implied I hadn't the money. He found that funny enough to laugh about it out loud to the rest of the store. This was preceded by a few more uncomfortable instances, including a time when I had forgotten my pin and needed to look it up. He said "It's declined." "That's not true, I think I used an old pin; there's plenty in there." "Put it back," he says, pushing the items back at me "and then-" he says, before gesturing to the door. I inserted my card into the machine and typed the correct pin. His face lit up and he literally said wow. This reaction is based solely on his perceptions. The card hasn't been turned down yet. He has also decided to lock doors early while watching me walk towards the store to use the atm. I have no idea what has made this man so rude but it extends beyond me. I have seen it happen to other customers. If you need a convenience store go south down Bonnie Brae maybe two more blocks on the left is an El Pariente. They're friendly, not to mention it's all half the price of Super Food Mart. No gas there, though.

The prices there are sometimes a little high, compared to bigger stores, but the service, location, staff, selection, and convenience make it worth it. The same is all true for Midway Craft House. The new spot is clean and nice, has easy parking, and the staff is laid back and helpful (if not always exuberantly friendly). They've got lots of craft cans and bottles, cool craft sodas, and they fill growlers. I love growlers. I love beer. I like trying new things. But they usually have about 15 IPAs on tap, which means there isn't a lot of variety when it comes to kinds of beer. Craft beer and growler fillers must know that not all craft beer junkies want IPAs and wheat beers all the time. Growler fill pricing is totally reasonable and sometimes surprisingly low. That said, you can always check their website to see what they have on tap (and how much is left in the keg!) so you won't ever waste a trip or be surprised. Plus - if the taps don't meet my needs, the cans and bottles certainly will. This is also a good spot to sit and have a few beers. They've usually got good music playing, a cool person behind the bar who will let you try before you buy, and a nice seating area inside and another outdoors. If you want some good beer and a pleasant experience, check them out.
