Unorganized uncaring cluster muck. Have extremely swollen leg and was referred to Piedmont hospital for DVT (Blood clot) test. The best appointment they could give was 4 weeks away. WTF! The nurses here are very disrespectfu, they don't want to do their jobs. My uncle has been here at least every other month or once a month and they have yett did something about it, they kept rescheduling his surgery when it was clear he needed it. We would ask the nurse to come and check on him when he started having his spells ( fainting ) and she would not come. There are some good nurses but we just so happened to get a bad one. the people here are somewhat nice and they are very helpful ( besides some). read more

The phone system is awful. I have tried called the hospital security for the past 5 days, having left my computer in my husband's room when we checked out. I am on hold from 5 to 15 min. and then get transferred to the wrong extension or get cut off. When I finally got through to security on two occasions, I was blown off, first being told I had to talk with a supervisor, or the second time I was to be called back because they were too busy. Heaven help trying to call a loved one. I have tried to call the administration. There is no number listed on the internet for administration. What a confusing mess! I was sent to their ER by prompt care on June 15th (a Saturday afternoon). I signed in at the desk and took a seat. They called me back for vitals and moments after I sat back down I was taken back to a private room that was open to a nurses station. They drew blook, did a ekg and put in a IV. This all took about 30 minutes. There was a chair in the room for my husband to sit it, so he could stay with me. And WI-FI so I could be on FB to pass the time.. The nurse and doctor checked on me several times.They kept me for 4 hrs while they waited for the lab work and released me. I would have liked to go home a bit sooner, but I know they held me for my own good. read more

The emergency department was out of control, unprofessional, lacked sympathy and equipped inadequately. Classified as a level 3 (like most), I arrived late morning and I had to wait nearly 11 hours just to be seen by a nurse, there were some that were still waiting after I left that had accumulated 13 hours and still waiting. The list of patients was approximately 40 during the entire time I was there. Thanks for the monitor that shows the wait times. However, being a Monday I was told it is like this every Monday. I understand that higher level triage patients get seen first, but still not an excuse or reason to make patients wait that long. The day staff was doing the best they could. On several occasions one of the triage nurses was kind enough to fill up a cup with ice water because the wall dispenser was not working. In the evening hours, the male nurse at the desk was rude and pompous. When I asked for a refill of some ice water, he responded with every excuse and didn't seem to care in the slightest. I understand you cannot leave the desk, but how hard would it have been to direct me to some one that could like earlier in the day. His solution was to either keep buying vending machine water or walk to the cafeteria which was about a 15 minute walk around the outside because you cannot get there from inside the hospital. The shuttle service is available but I wasn't about to bother them for a water trip when I needed to be drinking a lot. Very unsympathetic (kind of ironic for a nurse isn't it?) With the long wait, I would have been so awesome to have some volunteers or hospital staff to pass through the ED waiting room to just simply provide some calming assurance that everyone is aware of the wait and apologize, offer water, snacks, etc. There was ZERO signs of sympathy from anyone. Whether it is the remodeling was being done or lack of beds that took away space, availability or resources from the ED, it certainly left a uncertain impression of this being the right emergency facility to go to, especially with others so close. There are things you can apologize for and then there are things that people shouldn't have to point out. read more

Nurses are phenomenal when they aren't short-staffed, but the hospital leadership needs to work on patient care and the logistics of patients they have in their care. To move patients without any notification to family members or explanation to the patient is unacceptable....especially at 10pm at night when patients are on respiratory equipment and no one can get to the new room to put the patient on the equipment. Patients are told they are short staffed.....it's just not the same hospital it use to be. Not sure if that is due to the Piedmont purchase, COVID, or just poor management. Is it weird to rate a hospital? University Hospital was established in the early 1800s and is the second oldest in Georgia. The hospital itself is nearly 600 beds and has adjunct facilities (Heart and Vascular Institute) that create a sprawling eco-system encompassing multiple blocks near downtown Augusta. I know this hospital well because of family members' health issues and I have a high degree of respect and appreciation for this facility and most of the people who work here. In the last several years, I've had cause to spend a lot of time here (parents, in-laws, family friends' who have been hospitalized) and for the most part have been treated with kindness and patience by the staff. I will say that two experiences with the emergency room - both with my elderly mother - were disappointing, as they failed to discover she'd fractured her spine after a fall. This lead to unnecessary pain and an additional trip back to the hospital, and I did address this with the administration. Other than the emergency room, the doctors, nurses and therapists have taken time to answer questions and provide information and keep me, as a family member, informed. The hospital has fairly large rooms that are well maintained, free parking in a multi story deck near the front entrance and a really awesome cafeteria. The selection, quality and pricing are extraordinarily good - they focus on healthy offerings without sacrificing taste! Overall, the team at University Hospital has earned my trust and respect and I give them high marks for patient care. read more

I don't even know where to start with this review! Service: From the time I entered the cafeteria to my departing moment the staff was great. My selection: I settled on the Oven Roasted Chicken with Carrot Soufflé, cornbread, and Peach Crumble. Before I say this, take another gander at my profile pic. Homegirl can eat and this was a healthy portion that served as my lunch and dinner! The chicken breast was cooked to perfection and so juicy. The broth itself was so tasty I almost went to buy a roll just to dip in it. I'd never had Carrot Soufflé but it looked so yummy I had to try it, and it was. I tested the peach crumble just for a sweet bite as I walked out of the door and just a as I suspected I wanted to save it for later with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream! Price: average price for a sit down meal and you definitely get a heaping helping for the price. Will I return, yes and with more people! read more

The service was ok, the anesthesiologist even called me at home the day before to go over the procedure...BUT when the billing office called to tell me it was preapproved with insurance and ran over the numbers, you would think they would be semi-close to the actual total -- that is WHAT they do, right?!? Definitely not the case!! I was quoted $12,364.57....my bill? HUMF $16,831.29, which obviously means way more out of pocket expenses -- twice the amount and it did NOT include the anesthesia bill or my actual doctor bill. Because we have insurance, are we being charged more, or fraudulently? STILL making payments to University....Absolutely ridiculous! For starters I don't know how they calculated the average wait time but that's a load of crap. I've been sitting here for over 2.5 hours waiting to get into a room. The ER department clearly doesn't value patient privacy or comfort. After checking in you're told to have a seat. After waiting, you're called to weigh in and give personal information in THE FRONT OF THE WAITING ROOM. Once you survive that, you are told to sit and wait. Then you are called again this time to repeat everything you said to persons 1 and 2 to a third person. Then - you guessed it, told to sit and wait. Then a while later you are called again to be checked in to registration and then sent back to the waiting room. Meanwhile, you listen to employees talking about getting sick and worrying they spread it to their coworkers, who's covering them for lunch and why the schedule is so messed up. Also, don't bother asking how long it will be. The standard answer is "there's 1 ahead of you so it shouldn't be long". Truly disgusted. Update- So I've sat here and waited and yet again I've been misled on how long. I just went up to ask why I'm having to wait so long and a very rude desk person told me that there are now two ahead of me, which is odd since all along its been "1 ahead of and I would be called in just a couple of minutes". I told the desk clerk that I didn't understand why it changed and with severe abdominal pain I why I hadn't been seen in 3 hours. She then said they were higher priority over me and I just have to wait. I told her that it didn't make any sense that within 3 hours I hadn't been seen but the waiting room had cleared out she told me I was wrong. Took my 23 yr old daughter to ER for extreme side pain (kidney area). She was having repeated pain so bad that she was throwing up. Waited over two hours while other people bebopped to the back. The waiting room was practically empty when we arrived also. I do NOT think she was triaged correctly. No one answered the call light when she had to go to the bathroom too. They gave her a bolus of NS, so bladder got full quickly but no restroom nearby. Had to disconnect everything ourselves so she could walk down the hall. Also, what's up with night shift ER not having to wear masks? I work in another part of the hospital and I have to wear one (and I don't want to wear one). Why not everywhere? Said daughter had a kidney stone btw. Would give 1 star but giving 2 cause doc was ok. I honestly don't know how anyone can have a good experience here. Needed help to bathroom and waited 1.5 hours on a nurse to show up. If we hadn't been there to help him, I cannot imagine what would have happened. Makes me very sad. Beware of Fraudulent Billing and Falsifying Medical Records! Went in for a low grade urgent situation. When the nurse came to draw my blood, I asked "What tests are being ordered?", and was told, "an RBC". When I received my bill, I was shocked to have over $1,000 in charges for multiple blood tests that were never disclosed to me, and 100% completely unnecessary. I called multiple times and spoke with multiple departments in regards to these charges, and was told that the "the consent for treatment that you signed includes ay tests or treatments that are considered necessary by the physician." I went back and re-read the consents that I signed, and no where on there does it say that I will be lied to, and not told what is being ordered or done to me upon asking. ACTUALLY, it says "you have the right to make informed decisions regarding your care. Inherent in this right is the right to consent to treatment, the right to refuse treatment, and the right to be informed about what will be occurring during the time of hospitalization". Quite the opposite of what actually occurred. Make sure to review your bill, because they'll bill you for whatever they please without your consent, and lie to you about it in the process. Additionally, they will lie and falsify your medical record. The nurse that discharged us did our infant's newborn screen blood test. She told us it was done, and here was the paper on how to follow up, and gave us the instructions and receipt. When my daughter's tests were no where to be found, I called the hospital to find out what happened. The nurse at first stated that I refused the test all together. I disputed that claim, as two other witnesses were in the room with me when the test was done. The nurse then changed her story and said that she did not get enough blood and we refused to have our child re poked. Again, another outright lie, as two other witnesses were in the room and never once were we told there was a problem and our child had to be re-poked. I was told it's our word against the nurse's, and that the nurse now had documented our chart that we refused the test. Our child's life was potentially endangered by not having this newborn screening done, all because a nurse wanted to cover her tracks? I think that my medical care was fine, maybe not outstanding. The lower rating comes for the predatory billing. 90 days after the fact billings are still trickling in and OMG was everything MAXIMUM price. The latest, a recommended xray, not an emergency, was $1026 (!!!!) and my insurnace paid a whopping $795. This seems like so much money for about 2-5 minutes of doctoring. Add to that the balance is mine to pay. There is no way to figure out how to budget for medical and it just doen't seem reasonable that the bills keep trickling in month after month. read more

I usually come here for their emergency room. Whenever I have an medical issue that needs immediate attention I find my way here. I usually come late at night to beat the crowd but I think some people are hip to that and it's sometimes crowded. But the wait is never really long. The process is really simple to check in. Just go up to the front desk and tell your name and issue. Then wait to be called back to have vitals signs taken and things of that nature. Then you go over to the insurance desk and give your information there. Then you are put in a waiting room to be seen by a doctor. The doctors on call are always friendly and knowledgeable. You are given a diagnosis and treatment in minutes, so you are out of there in no time. The intake staff treats you very well and are patient to your needs. I can say I'm in good hands when I'm here. Now I only wish they did house calls!!!!! read more

The lady that did her mammogram was rude and not gentle, my mother is 81 years old and was very weak and she was just rude. i don't remember her name but she has no business working with older ladies. read more

I don't wish to rate the hospital as a whole poorly, as my absolutely dreadful experience was with one doctor and no one else. This evening I received a call at home in Atlanta, notifying me that my grandmother in Augusta, had possibly suffered a CVA. This initial diagnosis was made on scene by a close family friend with over 20 years of nursing experience. In addition to my grandmother having the good fortune of being in the presence of this very skilled friend, a medical doctor was also on scene. The incident occurred at a church function. Based on the assessment of these medical professionals. The 911 system was activated and I immediately began my 2 hour drive. I arrived at University hospital to find my grandmother in an ER room where she had been since her arrival. I mean to say that she received immediate attention, as was appropriate for her complaint. We were told that all the appropriate labs and test were all completed and were being processed. The problem however, arose when Dr. Geisler entered the room. He assured my Grandmother that all the tests were normal and asked if she was ready to go home. When we asked specifically if the CT was normal, he responded "that's what I said." He then proceeded to explain to my Grandmother that "someone just got excited." Implying that the medical professionals that noted her altered mental status, right side facial droop, slurred speech, and inability to stand or walk, were apparently over reacting. My question to Dr. J. T. Geisler is how exactly should one respond to these signs? He went as far as to say "I'm the doctor" when we clarified that we didn't think that she had suffered a CVA considering that all the signs had resolved, but that we were concerned with the cause of the TIA. All we received in response was "you're fine you can go home". In addition to the trusted persons that witnessed my grandmother's initial presentation, my mother and I have a combined total of over 40 years of medical experience. Mine specifically being in emergency medical care in the prehospital setting. To say that we have had a substantial amount of experience with doctors on both sides of treatment. This gentleman was by far the most condescending dismissive doctor I've ever had the misfortune of encountering. This interaction made a bad situation far worse than it had to be. read more

Worst ER service ever. Took my wife with breathing issues. Waited over 6 hours to be seen!!

The anesthesiologist administrated my sisters epidural incorrectly and caused her to have a epidural spinal headache. The nurses and doctors didn't handle her aftercare the best at all. Had her still laying in the labor & delivery cardboard mat and not taking her seriously. When they finally moved her to the suite, she didn't even spend more than 8 hours in the room before getting discharged (which they should've never discharged her to begin with) she was still in pain and told them so many times but I guess nobody cares about the mother after the baby's out. 5 days later, my sister had to go to the ER because her headache was worse! Her husband, newborn, and she were waiting 9 hrs to be seen because "No Beds" were available but they were dismissed due to other patients health being on the scale higher than what they actually caused on her!!! Thank God her husband made the right move to MCG because they took care of my sister quickly upon arrival and she had surgery and honestly this hospital is going to pretty much pay for doing this to my sister!!! How y'all can't perform excellent service to your patient in a timely fashion but claim to be the best in the city??? Don't go here!!! Go to MCG, Doctors Hospital, even Urgent Care but don't stop here!!!! So disappointing in the overhyped reputation of this piece of mess place! read more

Needed a vaginal ultra sound and they proceeded to bring in 3 students without our permission to observe the ultra sound. You'll probably die before you get seen bc of the wait time being over 8 hours. I came in at 8pm.Told them my lymph nodes were swollen... you would think bc it's on the back of my neck and one large one on my head they would run a test to see if I have an infection. I told them they were swollen and sore and painfully throbbing for 24hrs and that it happens often but not too often where I needed to come to the ER... but after doing the regular home remedies (massage and hot wash cloth... the normal things I do when this occurs) I decided to go to the ER. I was told by the PA that I would need a biopsy done and that should be done by a specialist. Then I was discharged. I have a friend who works there and was a to pull up my info. Friend told me they ordered labs..well that's what was said on my file..however no work was done at all.. just checked my vital signs.. all of which I could have done in the comfort of my own home. My friend also said my file read I was "treated" and discharged. All of this happened in the room were your vitals are checked bc all the rooms in the hospital were taken. I think it was just a way to get their patients out. I understand nurses/drs can be over worked.. HOWEVER that's all jobs... if you dont feel like doing any work find another field to go in. Augusta really needs to get this together with more hospitals being available. I literally stayed in the waiting room for 7 hours .. wheres my pay? read more

The rating for them is a little misleading because during the end of the year I had a relative receiving​ care from this hospital and required a couple of overnights​ to which I stayed at the hospital. The hospital staff and doctors were SUPER! My issue is with ​night security. After a nurse​ had come by and asked if I needed a blanket while I was there because I wasn't in my relative's room. (WHICH I HAD NOT BEEN ANY OF THE PREVIOUS NIGHTS) and a ​security guard came up and asked was I visiting someone in the hospital, I informed her yes and the nurse had just left and I told her as well that I would not need a blanket. She got of her walkie talkie and called for back up which I thought was odd, and then she asked what my relative name was. I had to repeat it to her several times and when her back up came she just yelled out that I had to leave because my relative was not in the hospital. (Although she could not pronounce his name). So I asked her back up what was she talking​ about, he just restated I had to leave because she had said my relative was not in the hospital. She then said she had called down to emergency (Which didn't​​ make much sense to me considering he was an admitted patient for DAYS in the hospital). I then grabbed my things and went down to emergency myself and asked about the whereabouts was my relative and the young woman at the desk took all of 5 seconds and confirmed the information I had told the security guard before she had literally LIED, and then she told me how to get up to the waiting room where he was located. This type of behavior is despicable​, especially when it involves someone's love one during a potentially tragic time. She and her back up should both be fired or retrained immediately because this is inexcusable. read more

No 2 hours after my wife was supposed to go back to have a basic procedure done we are still waiting. Also the lady in the front was very helpful turned on cartoons for us, since we have 2 small children. As our children are getting restless the lady in the insurance room comes out and shushed my children. She then explained they are on the phone trying to get insurance information. My only though is shut your door if you have a problem with the noise. Then the anesthesiologist comes in (super awkward). Needless to say I would rather play in ATL Traffic then deal with this crap again. Pray we get out of here before Christmas. read more
