I began questioning that once a chronic injury led to restricting my movement in everyday life. I felt that I was at the end of a road and had no idea how to heal myself. Even my doctor said that I would eventually require surgery and then would probably be looking at hip replacement by age 45. I was shocked. I knew a tai chi studio had recently opened just down the road, so I walked in the door and spoke with the owner John. He listened to me for over 30 minutes and recommend I try a free lesson. I then purchased a month and have been going 5X per week since. I am committed to my health and wellness. I now have more mobility in my hip and torso than I've seen in a few years. One thing I also noticed was that my will power was depleted prior to attending the school. Over time, my yoga practice didn't address my injury and it left me empty inside on many levels. Since practicing at Body Mind Systems I feel strength, not just physically, but in my capacity and drive as a human. I think this is the case because John and George have taken the time to know me as a person and push me to the edge of my capacities while keeping my hip and lower back in mind. There are no bells and whistles here. Only hard work to physically heal and grow, and mindfulness to learn to live more holistically. One a final note, John and George have both taken the time to sit down with me on a personal level on several occasions. They both have checked on my progress not only physically, but also in other areas of my life. This room, this school is one of the few places in this world that is invested in ME as a person. I highly recommend you stop on by. -Dan V.

When I first started I paid $200 which I figured seemed ok as a monthly fee being that they want you to train 5 days a week. However I was quickly pulled aside during class to sign a contract for thousands of dollars. It was not presented as something to look at and bring back next week it felt very pressured and weird. Also the instructors don't know how to give constructive criticism. They are body shaming and make you feel stupid for asking any questions. If you want to spend $15000 for a black belt that you can earn in a couple years go for it but you will probably end up just injured and overly stressed and they will not refund your money either for medical issues.

Easton is one of the only places I've gone that I can say is amazing and has exceeded my expectations in every way I can think of. I personally train muay thai (they have muay thai, kickboxing, and jiu jitsu) which you can start training after you've achieved your yellow shirt in kickboxing since they want you to know striking fundamentals on the heavy bag prior to doing partner work. Not only is it a good workout, but you learn about proper technique, discipline, balance, respect, camaraderie, and so much more. I can't wait to see where else my training takes me! The Monday to Thursday classes are as intense as you make them and the ability to have free bag time on Friday is a great perk as well! I like how friendly and inclusive the gym is. They are encouraging and immersive! It's a comfortable setting to walk into and try the first class! so make sure you try out the class at least once and be sure to bring some wraps, water, so clean gym cloths and a pair of gloves!

His approach to teaching is enlightened and lacks hype and ego, which, for martial arts, is appropriate. My child is enrolled at Denwakan; she had a black belt already in another martial art and I wanted her to get busted down to white and learn something new -- again, with no ego. I could not have made a better choice. I drive a good distance to take her to this dojo and it's 100% worth it. If you're looking to learn a martial art or want your child to join a quality dojo, you CANNOT do better than Denwakan Karate. The emphasis here isn't on combat or even defense (although of course that is taught and taught well), it's on learning the values of respect and honor, it's on quieting the mind and harnessing our energy to be used in the best way possible. I cannot think of anyone better to teach these lessons than Sensei Kurobane, and that's a fact.

Shifu Chao trained at the Song Shan Shaolin temple from young age, and will help you reach your full martial potential. You also have the opportunity to apply the theory in application drills in addition to all of your mabu, kicks, and forms. On the money side, I sometimes travel a lot for my work, so I would say this school is very understanding of these real world situations and extends out the term of your contract an equivalent amount of time, so you don't "lose" the training time on your contract. The class format - for good reason - is not like in China, where every student (could be hundreds or more) is learning the same forms together (the forms here are organized by belt level). As a result, the correct mechanics of the form are taught first, then technically refined over time once those have been demonstrated properly. In this way, all students can progress without taking up the whole class for just one form instruction. Also, very importantly, Shifu is always watching your body mechanics, stance, hand/feet position and work, point toe, etc. every step of the way and will call it out if incorrect or needs adjustment. This continuous feedback loop and attention to detail is critical for student's improvement. If you are interested in learning the Shaolin arts, look no further than Denver Shaolin Kung fu Academy. You will not regret it. Prepare to have fun!
