Dr. Kang is an excellent dentist. Dr. Kang has a soft yet professional touch when providing services and I can relax under her care. I recently had a crown service and Dr. Kang and dental assistant Sadaf worked collaboratively to deliver excellent results. Sadaf was gentle and conveyed an appropriate interest in my welfare which she delivered in a very professional manner. Genuine interest puts me at ease when I'm not treated like a number. Both confirmed the quality of their work before finalizing the crown service. I don't know anyone who gets excited about going to the dentist. But when I go to Tacoma Smiles I receive high quality service and also a breakdown of pre--service costs.

The waiting area is very nice and offers coffee for those who are waiting. That is such a sweet and kind gesture. They also let my little son pick some prizes from their treasure chest. Now that was awesome seeing that he was just waiting with for his father's visit too. They make the patient and their family feel welcome. This is a place full of hospitality. Oh well, we decided that was okay and booked our appointments for November. Today (October 30th) my husband said that the building looked different or had different signage out front. So he called to confirm that they were still in business and was informed they no longer accept our dental insurance and they claimed they had sent a letter. We didn't receive any letter. And a phone call should have accompanied any such letter, anyway. If you scroll through the reviews, you will see that this seems to be a pattern with this clinic. Dropping insurance and not letting their clients know. Horrible service, but I guess maybe we dodged a bullet!

Paramedics were dispatched. He shoved temporary crowns on my teeth as they were preparing to take me to the ER. Four weeks later, severe abdominal pain. Unknowingly, I had ingested the temporary crown material which perforated my intestines. Had my entire abdomen opened to retrieve it. 8 additional weeks off of work which cost me my nursing management job. I have multiple shades of bulky, painful teeth. Lost 27 lbs and can?t gain because I can?t eat. Another $12,000 in medical bills, loan has been paid for a year yet all gas gone to interest only. Now, had to pay $500 to obtain a lawyer to fight him in court. Run!! I signed to have work with Dr Turley then he moved me to Comfort Dental where the nitrous oxide issue occurred. I get it, she likes to keep it strictly professional with absolutely no compassion or kindness. But I expected the quality of my care to at least be good. Nope. First of all, the dental assistant tripped over the cord while doing x-rays of my teeth, which yanked it out of my jaw. Hurt really bad. I decided to let that go. Accidents happen. Then after I specifically asked for laughing gas before my fillings (bad anxiety around dentists), someone forgot to tell the assistant. So while I was sitting there with the numbing gel on my gums, they had to go and get the laughing gas set up, and it took so long that the numbing gel was starting to wear off. Dr. O'brien came in once I was ready to go and inserted the needle for anesthetic without even telling me, and was EXTREMELY rough with the needle. Like... it HURT. Then, once she was done with the fillings, I told her my bite felt off, and she just told me "you're numb and probably just can't even feel it correctly". 2 months later I decided to get the rest of my fillings done elsewhere because I STILL could not chew on the tooth that she filled it was so excruciating. Like, I was crying for the whole first week after my fillings it hurt so bad. The new dentist told me my bite was WAY off from the fillings Dr. O'Brien did, so she fixed that, and that my tooth was likely bruised from the constant agitation of chewing, and we might need to talk about a ROOT CANAL if the pain doesn't subside. All because O'Brien damaged my tooth. Like, the cavity I had wasn't even bad. Just a little guy. And now I'm looking at a possible root canal. Oh, and by the way, my new dentist was so gentle with my anesthesia that I barely felt the needle. And she talked me through the whole thing. Please do not go to Alyce O'Brien. She doesn't care about you, or the quality of her care.

When I returned home, I noticed the discrepancy on my calendar so called them the Monday before my appointment to confirm and was assured it was Tuesday the next day at 12:30. When I showed up at 12:15, first the receptionist could not even find my name in their appointments. She asked for my phone number then said Oh, it's misspelled. Your appointment is at 2:30. I let her know of the steps I took to confirm the time, to which she replied they sound alike. Twelve and two? Doesn't sound alike to me. This only served to infuriate me. At this point I was angry about the idiocy of the receptionist and told her to just cancel the appointment, I wasn't coming back at 2:30 or ever. If this is how this company operates, I wonder how the dentist operates. If I could give this a zero star I would. Don't risk your life or your teeth to this business. As far as the care, I'm sure it was a 50-50 chance the doctor took to pull out one of my teeth that he thought was giving me pain even though I said it was the back tooth. Lo and behold got a new four tooth bridge and it ends up being the back tooth that still has pain. The whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth. No pun intended. I will be going elsewhere to continue my care.
