If comic shops have personalities, then Hazel's Heroes has one all its own. Calm! What sets it…read moreapart is the sense of order and care in every corner. There's no clutter here. Everything has its place, and that intentional layout creates a welcoming, relaxed vibe. One of my first suggestions when you walk in: look up. Near the front of the store, the ceiling tiles form an art gallery featuring work from artists who've come through the shop. It's a unique, personal touch that tells you right away this place is built on community and passion. Immediately to your right, there's a well-arranged selection of statues and figurines. From there, the walls guide you around the store with new books, Funko Pops, action figures, and back issues--all tastefully organized. Behind the counter, Steve showcases even more art and collectibles, with a focus on quality over quantity. When I visited, Steve had just picked up a gorgeous Silver Age collection featuring Avengers, X-Men, Captain America, and more. I snapped some photos, but honestly, pictures still don't do the shop justice. You have to see it in person to really appreciate the atmosphere. Each Wednesday brings in new comics, and there's also a great selection of back issues (very well organized) plus comic book supplies. Steve's been in the game since the '90s, so he clearly knows his stuff. Hazel's Heroes could be the perfect first stop on a mini comic book crawl around the Canton area--there are three or four other local shops nearby. And don't forget to say hi to Steve and his wife Amy; they're warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about what they do. And of course, mark your calendar for May 3rd--Free Comic Book Day--when Hazel's will be hosting special guests and events. Definitely worth checking out. NEO ComicCon

Comics, Cards and Collectables - Canton Ohio…read more Tucked away at 724 Cleveland St. SW in Canton, Comics Cards and Collectibles is one of those rare, not quite off-the-beaten-path places that's truly a treasure trove for any comic or card enthusiast. From the moment you step inside, the walls greet you with classic comics, while the glass case and counter is packed with collectible cards and the shelves are packed with graphic novels and surrounded with comic supplies, wall books and new comics on Wednesday just waiting to be discovered. The heart and soul of the shop is Tom--the owner, curator, and local legend who's been at it since 1980. That's 45 years of comics, cards, and stories. Tom's not just a shop owner--he's a storyteller and a welcoming presence who makes every visit feel like catching up with an old friend. I get to stop by once a year to drop off some flyers and snap a few pics, and every time I leave with some new stories and a sense of nostalgia. What really stands out is Tom's excitement for Free Comic Book Day (this year on May 3). He opens up the back room warehouse--a goldmine of comics and collectibles, with boxes filled with decades of comics looking for new homes. It's like walking through comic book history. Tom's store has been a staple in the Canton area for so many people--some who got their very first comic book right there. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and swing by. Say "NEO ComicCon sent me," and dive into a world where the past and present of pop culture live side by side.

And--Don't touch things if you're going to place them back anywhere other than where they belong. This is a vintage toy store. Think of it like a museum of sorts, but one where you actually have the privilege to own the pieces. Be respectful. All of those bad reviews sound like people who don't understand that... Anyway...I ordered online so I'm reviewing the online experience--which was great. Packaging must have been good because my dad got his G.I. Joe in perfect condition. The owner, or the owner's son, emailed me personally immediately after I ordered to simply check to make sure the address was correct because my address and the shipping address were different--so they obviously genuinely care about their items and offering quality service to customers. And my dad, as a child, actually had the exact G.I. Joe I bought for him. He said when he opened the package it immediately unlocked childhood memories he'd forgotten about. He said it was the best birthday gift he'd gotten. And nothing beats getting your dad a good birthday gift. (Except maybe buying your parents a house, but, I'm not quite there yet.) You can't trust buying a G.I. Joe from just anyone/anywhere. This place has a G.I. Joe specialist who inspects the figures before they're available for sale. That means you're not getting some counterfeit replica pieces sold to you like you might elsewhere. I would absolutely order again from this place, and hope I have the opportunity to. I'll be checking back every now and then for future G.I. Joes that my dad doesn't have yet.

It's just one of those places where the nostalgia hits you like a wave. Every aisle is filled with treasures from your childhood: toys you had, toys you wanted but couldn't afford, and even some you totally forgot existed until they were right there in front of you. I told a friend recently that if I had a million dollars to spend only on toys, I'd still leave that store with a wishlist. It's that packed with incredible finds. They have toys dating all the way back to the 1920s, through the golden eras of the '50s, '60s, '70s, and into the '80s and '90s--the stuff we now lovingly call "vintage" or "retro." From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Star Wars to Marvel Comics, classic board games, and massive collectible statues, the selection is wild. I'm doing a couple of photo dumps just to show people how deep the nostalgia runs there. It's more than a store--it's an experience. If you're within driving distance, I highly recommend making a day of it. Explore the beautiful town of Canal Fulton, grab some food, and then spend time walking through this amazing shop. You won't regret it. And if you're not local--good news--they ship nationwide (possibly even worldwide). Right now they've got a spring sale: 20% off most items, and even 10% off statues and busts. Plus, they're gearing up for a huge Free Comic Book Day event, with a block party, vendors, and performers. Definitely worth checking out. Keep an eye out for flyers about NEO Con while you're there, and block out some time--you're going to need it!

Bill's Books & More - Canton Ohio…read more Bill's Books and More is one of those rare comic shops that truly feels special the moment you step inside. For me, it was one of the first comic shops I ever visited back in the '90s, and it left a lasting impression. Decades later, that magic is still there. The owner, Bill Pappas, is not only a pillar in the local comic book community but also one of the most supportive people you'll find when it comes to events like NEO ComicCon and helping vendors like myself get started. That said, I want to be clear--I'm not being biased when I say this: Bill's Books and More is a must-visit shop for any comic fan. When you walk in, it hits you--the nostalgia, the excitement, the thrill of discovering a back issue you've been hunting for, stumbling across something totally unexpected, or spotting a future grail. Bill curates a space that reminds you why you fell in love with comics in the first place. From dollar-bin treasures to high-end collectibles in the five-figure range, Bill's got it all--comics, statues, action figures, graphic novels, and more. It's a true Mecca for collectors and fans alike. And if you want to see this place at its absolute peak, don't miss Free Comic Book Day on May 3rd. Bill is going all out with three locations on the same property--the main shop plus his ever-evolving Location Two and Location Three. It's going to be big, it's going to be wild, and it's always something special. Trust me, Bill will deliver. Can't make it that day? It's still worth the trip to Canton to check it out. Knight Convention Center in downtown Akron, Rubber City Comics is a must-visit for comic book fans. Formerly known as The Newsstand at Quaker Square, the shop is now celebrating an incredible 50 years of serving the community. I had the pleasure of chatting with Camryn, who was super friendly and knowledgeable. She told me all about their new comic book arrivals every Wednesday and their huge Funko Pop selection--perfect for collectors! The store also has an impressive range of back issues, supplies, toys, and graphic novels, so if you're hunting for a rare find or just browsing, there's something for you. In addition to celebrating their milestone anniversary, they're hosting a big sale and giving away free comics for Free Comic Book Day--happening tomorrow! Some items will be discounted up to 50% off, so it's the perfect time to stop by and support a longtime local favorite. Don't miss it. Tell them NEO ComicCon sent you. Having just moved here from NY, and specifically, rural, backwoods New York, I was floored to find that there was a comic book store near me. Upon my first entry, I found the entirety of the Watchmen comic series via DC Compact for $10, and I couldn't believe it. I bought it, read it cover to cover, and came back the next day. This was about a month ago, maybe a little longer now, and I've been back several times since. In fact, it's actually become a bit of a routine. Located less than half a mile from the UA campus, it's very convenient for me to walk on down during my breaks between classes. Even when it's not necessarily, "convenient" for me to come in, they've incentivized me to take the walk during weekends with their $1 Independent Sales, an absolutely absurd value for anybody, like me, who spends the majority of their comic-reading time with publishers beyond Marvel and DC. So far, I've met about three of the resident staff members, and haven't a harsh word about any of them. They are all kind, well-informed and decent people who never fail to help their patrons find what they're looking for, or offer interest-based recommendations to those who are unsure of their next read. All in all, Rubber City Comics is a wonderful shop. I cannot recommend giving them your business enough, especially as we enter an increasingly digital era of shopping and marketing. Support your local brick-and-mortar stores, and be sure to support this one as well, they absolutely deserve it.

This shop has something for everyone. I've had the pleasure of watching this shop grow from the very beginning. In fact, I was Adam Sabol's first customer when he opened, and my dollar bill still hangs on the wall to this day. It's been amazing to watch how far the shop has come -- it's a full-blown collector's paradise. Every inch of the store is filled with something cool -- from carefully displayed, carded figures lining the walls to bins and bags of treasure waiting to be dug through. The chaos is part of the charm, and yet somehow everything feels just right. If you're into DC, Marvel, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, G.I. Joe, Star Wars, or pretty much any toy line that ever meant something, odds are you'll find it here. Adam himself is one of the best parts of the experience. He's incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the hobby, always down to chat about comics, toys, or the state of the industry. He gets new comics in weekly and is constantly updating his stock with fresh CGC-graded books and recent collections -- so the inventory is always evolving. Beyond toys and comics, the shop also carries nostalgic items like t-shirts, lunchboxes, comic supplies, and more. Whether you're coming from Akron or making a stop on your way to Youngstown, it's absolutely worth the detour. Adam is also a fixture on the convention circuit and someone we always look forward to seeing at NEO ComicCon. Be sure to swing by the shop on May 3rd for Free Comic Book Day -- it's a perfect time to experience everything the shop has to offer. @neocomiccon @adamsactionfiguresandcomics In short, Adam's Action Figures isn't just a store -- it's an experience, and one that keeps getting better every time you visit.

I knew about this place since I grew up in the area, so on one of our trips "back home" to the area I brought my boyfriend here. Apart from the vast selection that spans every genre you could possibly think of, the atmosphere in this shop is the true soul of this place. Two floors packed full of books (and that comforting old-book-smell) with chairs here and there should you care to plop down for a literary adventure. We've frequented many bookstores in many states, and this is still our favorite one.
