I have had a lot of great interactions with them, and am optimistic about the store's future. New layout is much better. It's still a small space so their ability to play larger games and their selection is limited, but they are doing a great job with service and their prices are more reasonable than what I previously encountered.

The place was a…read morelittle hard to find in a strip mall-esque location in Boone off a frontage road, but the GPS did take me right there. Overall, the store is a little small, but they were able to make really good use of the limited amount of space made available to them We stopped in close to store close, and it appeared we were the only guests at the shop during that time. One or two employees appeared to be there (playing a game with each other and customers, but still very welcoming and attentive to us and our needs) and two other presumably regulars were hanging out, as well. The one person working that evening had no problem getting up and looking for our requests (Tasha's Cauldren of Everything for DnD and Volo's Guide to Monsters) on the floor and in the back room and found it with no issue. He was clearly very knowledgable on all topics, including quickly and accurately speaking to what they had or didn't have in store. In asking his help for this review, my boyfriend described Dragon's Den as "what you might expect from a local gaming shop." While I am not 100% what that means, I guess I get the gist. The store had a wall with some small shelves of board games, a good variety of rulebooks for TTRPGs, miniatures, a small but interesting comic selection, and tables for playing. For those living in the Boone community, there appeared to be a lot of signs and ads right upon entering about upcoming games or events at the shop or in town. I enjoyed my time here and will definitely be back, but I would say this is not a store for people without specific interests in these types of games (aka me) or looking for specific items, as the "other" stuff (i.e., generic board games) is rather limited (which is fine). .

A big pro for Mishap Games is that James will take a chance on you even though you are a stranger when you ask to host games. Some stores are very shy. The big problem in 2022 and in 2023 was the story was poorly cleaned. The tables were not cleaned during the week and the trash cans were never taken out either. Therefore there were nats flying around all the time. I remember for three weeks straight there was a donut box under the check out counter. The bathrooms was something out of a Eastern Kentucky rest stop. Then in the summer of 2023 there was the huge issue where out of nowhere James stopped folks from coming to the store and using his tables. He was disappointed that folks were coming in and not even saying hello or buying anything, then after months of coming to the store they would just vanish. I totally understand his frustration. Sadly, this hasty policy was enough for some folks to leave the store and never come back. And it all could have been prevented by just having the discord calendar managed better and better communication with loyal customers from the get go. Within a matter of days James reversed his policy due to the feedback he got on discord. Thankfully, for 2024, the store is much much cleaner. Sadly, once again due to horrible communication and judgement, James has lost more business. About 1.5 hours before my group was going to play at his table, one of the players who lives within walking distance brought 3 or 4 kids into the store. They were not his kids. Then I get notified that if this same person or anyone that has been playing with him at the same table does this again then we will no longer have access to the tables. So this is like five people. These five people did nothing wrong. So I just saved James the trouble by just banning myself for life. I wouldn't have a spine or self respect if I walked back in there. I wise manager would have a store policy in place for such matters if that was such a liability risk (which is what I was told) and the customer would have been told to leave immediately. Furthermore, a wise manager would tell the person that brought in the kids that they would be banned from playing, instead of casting a wide net and getting customers involved who are innocent and have done nothing wrong. This store has a lot of potential, but James seems determined to run off customers. It already has a great location with great parking. Sadly, James has failed to capitalize on the basement to help folks socialize (Fiji Island days) and the Kitchen (Fiji Island days) for supplemental income. James is an expert with games, and is friendly and can talk with you, but he's a horrible manager, and a unfair person. The margin for error is too thin when you compete with Amazon and roll 20 and the like. I don't see this business lasting through 2025. Just a wild guess.

Allison & Nick are the owners of this unique little haven of games which is well stocked with almost all very game you can think of; recent or a back in the day favorite. Krista is one of the game masters that will help you out if you need help or if you have a request! If there's a game they don't have you can tell them and they will get it for you! The games are labeled with stickers and categorized from low, medium to high in the difficulty of the game; popular games are in one section and family games are upfront. If you're looking for a little bit of socialization they have group games which we were fortunate enough to play a game called werewolf, which was a lot of fun, and yes I will be purchasing it! Speaking of purchasing, they do have games for sale. They have little concession stand with grab and go sandwiches, mini crudité snack packs and sandwiches along with gourmet popcorn, and snacks if you want something to munch on while you're playing games. If you want to quencher your thirst they have adult beverages, water, sodas, juice, coffee and Tea. And a few steps away are very clean bathrooms, fully stocked with mints flossing picks and items for the ladies (wink-wink)... All in all Luck Factory Games is a great concept and for just $5 per person you can have a fun night out!
