They called and texted several times to confirm. Probably because I was the first in the schedule for the day. I understood the assignment. But, did appreciate the reminders. I have some cognitive issues, due to my disability. I was 10 minutes early, I thought the doors would be locked, but they were not. I walked in, was greeted with a big smile. We had to square away some insurance issues. But it was quick. When I finished that, I was called straight back, changed, had MRI done. The technician who did it was very polite, respectful, and explained to me how he wanted me to move, and asked if he could move me himself. Consent to touch me is extremely important, and it needs to make sense. He nailed it. Kudos to him. I was in and out, faster than it took me to drive there. I highly recommend being first. You save so much of your day. Once they get behind, Yikes! The team was very caring and respectful. I felt I was in good care the whole time. I didn't take pics, because well, it's a place that does MRI's, it's phone off when you walk in.

Really?…read more If I had to report on the top 5 examples of the worst models for running a business in their industry, Strong Memorial Hospital's Emergency Department would be my #1 Pick. Here's why. My husband and I had the unfortunate need to visit Strong Memorial Hospital's emergency room yesterday evening sept 7, where we waited almost 4 hours before being put in an actual examination room The waiting area was extremely overcrowded, uncomfortable, and not even close to the hygienic standards one should expect in a leading HEALTH care facility. The front desk/registration staff, including a nurse, were dismissive and abrupt at best, and seemed unconcerned about my husband's increasing discomfort and pain as we waited 5 hours before being put in the first exam room. Even after being moved to the first room, the experience continued to be an oppressive "waiting" game--way too many people asking us the same questions that should have been or were actually covered during the initial registration, without any actual CARE being administered. When we were finally taken to what you call "The Tent" we were directed to a ridiculous cubicle with a lounge-like chair, and a curtain for "privacy". I seriously doubt that chair had been disinfected for our use and there were no linens or pillows or anything provided that would have made the environment more comfortable or more hygienic. We would have received better care at a hospital in the South Bronx. When my husband's condition had been addressed and we were finally discharged, it was almost 5 pm--more than 7 hours after our arrival. I realize emergency medicine is a stressful and demanding profession for hospital staff, but this is NOT the experience Strong or ANY hospital should be providing for their patients. It is frankly horrendous--unacceptable and unforgivable. The leadership team, including the CEO Kathy Parrinello should be embarrassed and ashamed of this department. URMC can do better--URMC must do better or will risk the total loss of credibility in the healthcare industry and the practice of serious medicine. As far as I'm concerned, they already have.

The staff works like a well oiled machine. The care I received was top notch. I feel completely comfortable, and have tremendous amount of trust. Dr Reid and Dr Silver have an excellent reputation, and I know others she has treated. She fights hard for her patients. The nurses are top notch, very attentive, work great together, always smiling, handle emergencies with quick precision. I've been super impressed. The lack of one star is due to the rest of the hospital. I honestly feel like, when they know I'm being treated my Dr Reid, they jump into action, but if I'm there for some other issue, I always run into weird scheduling issues, delays, failures to call me back. Like I said, I've only experienced that outside of the Cancer and radiation department. But no matter what, I will never go to strong hospital. I know more people who have gone to strong, and left in a body bag, then I know who have gone and walked out. I am absolutely not kidding. RGH, may have some system issues, but their Drs really care. You can see it, and feel it. Their staff tries hard, they are just really busy, and working a ton of hours. But they genuinely care. Unlike other places.

The only difficulty I found with my stay was getting a room after surgery. It was very hard to rest and recover when waiting for hours to be taken to a room with an actual bed. The communication regarding this was frustrating, as I kept being told it was going to happen soon with no action. It was no fault of the nurse who was caring for me, as I continued to hear them call for a room to be prepared. Once this was resolved my experience improved. The room was clean and well kept. My room had its own tv and private bathroom. The food was decent and I was happy to have options to choose from if I did not want to eat the scheduled menu item for the day. Parking is paid with hourly rates.

Warning for Patients with Rare Conditions, Disabilities, or Trauma History…read more I was recently treated at Highland Hospital while experiencing an autonomic crisis related to my Riley-Day Syndrome (Familial Dysautonomia)--a rare neurological condition that requires urgent, specialized care. Despite telling staff repeatedly that I was in crisis, I was dismissed, denied care, and discharged unsafely. The nursing staff falsely documented that I "transferred myself into a wheelchair without assistance." In reality, my brother physically lifted me into the wheelchair and into the car because I was unable to move safely. That's medical record falsification. I asked for a patient advocate multiple times, as is my legal right. I was told no one was available. That is a direct violation of The Joint Commission's requirements and NYS Patient Bill of Rights. I also asked for clear communication about my labs and vitals. I was denied access to my own medical information while in crisis. I was denied my legal right to submit a statement or correction to my record in their MyChart system. Rochester Regional allows this--why doesn't URMC? Is it to avoid accountability? Highland Hospital failed me. They ignored my diagnosis. They ignored my lived experience. They gaslit me and endangered my life. I'm filing formal complaints with: * The Joint Commission * NYS Office of Professional Medical Conduct * HHS Office for Civil Rights * Disability Rights NY * CMS If you are disabled, medically complex, or have a trauma history, be extremely cautious. Then she got stuck at McCormick Transitional Care Center at Unity, and wow, what a horrible, horrible experience, the result of which is the need for a second and third even more invasive surgeries to repair the damage she sustained at this facility. First of all, the nursing staff and physician's assistant at McCormick TCC failed miserably to manage my mother's pain. My mom was in absolute agony, crying out for help, with woefully inadequate pain medication. I should not have had to do this, but I repeatedly explained the fragile and traumatic nature of my mom's surgery along with my mom's medical history and efforts at pain management... and I literally begged them to help her. It did no good. They did not increase her meds to appropriate and recommended levels, they did not adequately take care of her bodily needs, nor did they take measures to insure her comfort or safety. She was often left in a soiled bed, crying in pain and humilation. I AM NOT EXAGERATING. The aids would literally ignore her call light and her cries of pain, or simply step in and turn the light off, telling her coldly that she had to wait for help or meds or whatever she needed. In desparation, my mother would try to get up and get to the bathroom on her own. There was no bed alarm, no safety measures in place at all... nothing. And as a result, Mom fell more than once, after spinal fusion surgery!! It was awful, frightening, dangerous and ultimately devastating to her recovery . I told the administrator after the first fall that I felt my mom was NOT SAFE at McCormick, and the administrator assure me she would launch an investigation and make sure this didn't happen again... but it did happen again and again. My mom fell several time, each time she suffered obvious setbacks in what little progress she had made in her recovery. There were at least three falls and "investigations," and yet I would come in and see the aids chatting or hanging out down the hall totally ignoring my mother's call light. Or we would wait more than 30 minutes to an hour for someone to respond after calling for help, and we often had to go get someone to help her. And when the aids finally showed up, many were very rude or unkind to her. Or they would simple step in and turn off her call light, informing her coldly that she would have to wait for her meds or for help getting to the bathroom or whatever. It was awful. My mom was in misery. She felt like she was dying, and we did too. So finally I call her surgeon to inform him of what was going on, and he was NOT happy to hear how his patient was being treated. After the surgeon got involved, the PA did finally relent and increase my mom's pain meds according to her doctor's instructions for a multi-modal pain management approach, which should have been in place from day one. Hence my mom was able to engage in some rehab, but it was too late. The damage was already done, a fracture on the lowermost vertebra. I know it happened at McCormick. I mean, one time my mom fell with an aid standing right there but apparently making no effort to support or help her with the toileting. And another time, she fell so hard that they took her down an xray. We recently did a CT scan with die and her surgeon found a fracture at the lowermost vertebra of the lumbar region. This area should be fused by now, but due to the fracture, the pins are now loose and possibly touching the nerve, which explains her excruciating nerve pain. My mom's fusion surgery has thus failed as a result of the movement and instability cause by the fall and fracture, which is so upsetting. She should be recovered and walking by now all but pain free. But instead she's pretty much confined to her bed and in constant pain. Now my mom must undergo not just one but TWO consecutive surgeries, entering from the front and the back, in order to repair the damage, replace the pins, secure the spine all the way down to the sacrum. This is an even more invasive and brutal surgery than the first one, and I fear she will not survive it. Needless to say we will not be taking her back to Unity Hospital for this surgery. And McCormick Transitional Care Center and/or Park Ridge should be investigated and shut down in my opinion. For we were not the only ones to experience neglect and abuse at this facility. There was one poor lady confined to her wheelchair and kept in the dining area all day everyday. They would not let her go back to her room and lie down because she was "a fall danger" like my mom, and they wanted to keep an eye on her. Sadly, if my mom could have sat in a wheelchair they might of parked her in the dining area too and kept a closer eye on her, but that wasn't an option for after surgery... and i don't believe it's legal to prevent someone from going to their room.

Also the cleanliness of this hospital was absolutely disgusting. The triage room had hair shavings all over the floor. Then when my husband was going to be put in a room in the ED it was dirty so they put him in a different room that was also dirty with papers, and used medical supplies in it to wait til the room was clean and never ended up moving him to a clean room. If you weren't truly sick before you came to the ED you would be sick afterwards for the how unsanitary it was.

After a few more pictures, I sat there for over two hours and a young ER Dr. came in and said he couldn't see any breaks but wasn't sure. Told me to come back the next day if my pain persists. Meanwhile my ankle and foot swelled up twice the size and turned black and blue. I don't know why he couldn't see any damage. Had to pay a co-pay and wasn't going back to pay another. Ridiculous!

I think we got there around 2pm. The wait times were not terrible, and the rooms do have individual tvs which was a nice distraction. Towards the end there was a lot of waiting around to get discharged because the ER got busier. There were a variety of teams involved and everyone seemed to communicate and coordinate well. One thing to know is that there are only 2 pediatric ERs in Rochester- so you'll be there with a variety of emergencies happening across the city which could be anything from fevers to broken bones to car accidents and more. I think my son did find it a bit scary. We previously lived in a large metro with smaller hospitals and more localized ERs available, so we went to the local ER for things like broken bones, but the more traumatic types of injuries did not end up at the local ER. The biggest negative for me was the parking situation which is a large garage across a big driveway. When you're in a situation with a crying and injured child, the last thing you want to do is navigate a parking garage. When you pull up in front of the ER, there were only a few temp spots but they were occupied. Also, the parking spots are tight. Maybe they striped the place when cars were smaller or are just trying to pack in as many cars as possible but it was a squeeze to park and then trying to get an injured person out of the vehicle.

This second admission feels strange, unkind, threatening, ubrupt, and very not supportive to me as a primary parent and caregiver. I wouldn't wish any parent to be in my shoes! The judgement and unpleasantness I have experienced with staff such as Nurse Chrisanne and CCLS Elise on 8th floor south is not okay. Regardless of what I know of my child seems null and void, how much I stand by her and support her, it doesn't count. I am finding to be the scapegoat and villian for advocating for better communication and transparency in a better fashion than what I have experienced. I feel this admission has enabled my child to get MUCH worse and my relationship is tainted with my daughter due to the BS reported in MyChart. She seems to be more flat, an empty shell of a person because a feeding tube is enabling her to not need to eat for herself. Staff is more concerned with policing parents using cell phone for snack time keeping rather than ecouraging and supporting the patient get better by actually eating solids. This place is not nice or comforting. This place feels makes me feel gaslit, upset, overwhelmed, frustrated, misinformed, neglected, misrepresented and unhappy by staff. I am supposed to drop my other kid and work to play Simon Says on their watch and wait around for the next awful MyChart surprise of a nasty message. Awful. So disappointed. Can they make it any worse for a single mom?!?!
